I want to ask if any of you have tried if the RG sword\launcher pack fit on the HGCE Strike. i know the back connectors are different, and have to mod either the strike kit or the packs, but i am more interested about the armor part : eg sword shoulder armor, and launcher shoulder armor – do the fit the HGCE Strike or don’t they?
In this episode of Gunpla TV Syd and Ryan talk about the new Gunpla available for preorder as well as looking at a tiny kit that packs a bit of a punch. Ryan also talks Star Wars as he is wont to do and has a bit […]
Dear, Syd and Ryan
I have just started getting into gunpla. Almost finished my first kit MG Ball. But i have a question. After speed watching to episode 117 I was wondering if a fan wanted to visit HLJ while in Japan could we support the store and buy something in person? Also is do you know if their is a Taxi service or bus around Sanoshi Station that goes near HLJ? Without one its about a hour walk. lol
Hi guys, that was a great episode. I would like to win the sengoku astray because red is my favorite colour. I really hope I could win. All the best to the both of you.
Hey syd and ryan. First time poster to the blog. I have been watching the new episodes but also going back to watch from the beginning. I am up to the 70’s right now. You guys do a great job and I can’t wait to see next week’s episode
Hey Syd and Ryan, is there a plamo modeler (or modelers) that you look up to as inspiration or just simply admire from there work? Awesome episode as always guys, keep up the great work, can’t wait till next episode! Gunpla TV is the best!
Is it sad that I want to get the Elf Bullock just so (okay not just, it looks neat too 😛 ) I can display it in the middle of my lounge room, and whenever I’m asked about it I can proudly yell “IT’S AN ELF BULLOCK!”
I’m not weird at all… Also not last comment for once!
Hey guys, new to both the hobby and to this site, but I watched the PG Unicorn and RG Wing Zero builds awhile back and decided to subscribe on YouTube and yadda yadda. Anyway, I must say on the off-chance I did win, I’d be equal parts horrified and ecstatic, because I’m only five High Grades into building Gunpla and an MG would be the most daunting thing imaginable, but I also love the Gundam MK. II in general and the Sengoku Astray, so I guess at the news I’d probably make a noise somewhere between sheer terror and unbridled happiness.
Really enjoyed seeing the funny antics with city model w/C-3PO. I’m really curious, what were your guys’ worst mistakes in modeling? Can’t wait for next episode!
Another Awesome show Syd and Ryan !
Will you be doing a build for the Wing Zero RG version? would love to see a video for it!
Thanks again for the entertaining videos as always !
By the way, do you know if Bandai will ever produce a PG Banshee by any chance?
Hi guys, I am just new here but I am a great fan of HLJ.tv. Gunpla is a great hobby, You guys give us great reviews on this. Keep it up. HLJ.tv 4ever!!!
Hi guys, Just one question. I have a full time work as an architect and usually I have miniature models of buildings being build, but every time, i am tempted to bring my Gundam Kit to work and do it there, Cause my wife always says I’m so hook up with this when she sees me working on it @ home. Is this normal??hehehe
Syd and Ryan, Do you have any plans for your valentines day? hehehe, Nice episode and Syd I’m using your technique in painting the sleeves of my MG Sinanju and thank you for that! hehehe
Great episode of Gunpla TV syd and ryan. The elf bullock looks like a another nice departure from traditional Gundam design. Now I’m curious Syd, what is your favorite oddball looking mobile suit? (something that looks so weird you appreciate its design) Also whoever wins that sengoku astray should have its frame painted metallic red and the rest flat coated except for the gold trim make that pretty too.
Really would love to get that Sengoku! the Astray is my favorite design and i have already build the blue frame second revise and i have the red frame sitting on my shelf to be built! really want that one… my favorite of the Astray MG!!!!!!!!! Also Syd and Ryan i love you show i really wish you guys made more videos even if they were just like small clips of what you do all week, just to learn a little bit more about you! Also seeing your Personal collections would be super amazing!!!!! @syd@ryan please post your collection!!
Looking and Linsy and Anna I`m curious, do many girls build gunpla? When you go to the hobby shows do you see a fair amount of girls or is it mainly dudes?
its sad that the sengoku doesn’t come with two palm striking hands, just going to blame kawaguchi mejin from the anime for pointing out that its called sengoku so it shouldn’t use chinese kungfu
Hi mock: “reach for the sky!”
C3p0: “oh no!” *rust starts forming in his crotch area*
Hi mock: “I may need back up”
*Enter Build Mk2*
Build MK2: “your backup has arrived wat seems to be the problem?”
Hi mock: “the suspect here was cleaning up downtown Tokyo in a stiff and ordrely manner”
Build MK2: “My god!”
Darth Vader: “I had nothing to do with this”
although i still have the RG Mk ii Titans and RG Justice to build, can’t wait to get my hands on the RG 00 Raiser! i’m about to finish my RG Exia and the 00 Raiser would be a good company for it.
really excited for that X1 Full Cloth but what does it mean with GBF ver? is it a customized ver or will it be the same as the original. cause I really really want the Tobia Aronax Version. been holding off in buying X1 cause I feel they’ll release the Full Cloth eventually.
I can’t wait for the RG Gundam OO Raiser. I’m a huge fan of the OO gundams. I wish that they would release an RG Gundam Virtue. Thats my favouite Gundam of all time!!!!
Another great episode. Got into gunpla from watching this show. Was thinking of buying Sengoku, but would be nice to win it. Also really liking the star wars kits
Hey guys great show as always. Love your work especially the build specials 😀 can wait to watch every episode. When i build my gunpla I normally have the old episodes of Gunpla tv in the background starting from episode 1. Keep it up guys :D!!!!
I hope to win that Sengoku Astray. I wanna try making it into the original Astray. What are your thoughts on Perfume (Japanese Electro pop trio?) will continue to aski till answered or chosen hehe.
good job as always guys. I like the look of the mega skiki and maybe in the further I can modify it even more.
I hope I can get the Build gundam MK-II (by Iori Sei)
When building any plastic model kit, I also like to watch the show, or something Gundam related. I don’t understand a lot of Japanese unfortunately so watching Gundam episodes is out of the question, as the only way for me to watch them on the internet is with Japanese dub.
Any idea’s on where to get episodes with English dub?
And dear Syd, the: Thunder, thunder, thunder, Thunderbolt is a reference to…. Wait for it……
Thunder, thunder, thunder, ThunderCats!!! Hooooo
LOL
Another good epi guys. I know Gundam are cool and all, but is bandai ever going to reprint any of their Macross Frontier kits. Been waiting for like a year now, so i can only Hope.
I’m new to gunpla and I was wondering if your ever going to do a review on shin musha mg, endless waltz heavyarms HG, and RX-121-1 Gundam TR-1 Hazel Custom HGUC?
I really dislike the Gundam design form G Reconquista but the red arcane does look better, I also love building the more complex models but love the HG kits for the variety to GunPla. What is your favorite Gunpla or Gundam?
Nice video as always, looking forward to you guys reviewing more Reconguista kits. Just built the G Arcane and it’s really good for an HG. Free things would be nice as always *wink*
I really dislike the Gundam design form G Reconquista but the red arcane does look better, I also love building the more complex models but love the HG kits for the variety to GunPla. What is your favorite Gunpla or Gundam
the build gundam mk 2 was my first master grade! kind of cool to see the japanese box in this ep. my fiancee is really excited about the bb lightning gundam: she wants the whole bb team try fighters.
I wanted the Hi-Mock ever since its first appearance in the finale of Gundam Build Fighters. Now that it exists, I’m liking how Bandai treated the Build Fighters grunt suits – cheap and versatile. Maybe I’ll pick up three or four.
I also wanted the Sengoku Astray ever since its first appearance in Build Fighters. Here’s to hoping to win one!
This new Hi-Mock is a great addition to “alternative” grunt suits – what a refreshing design! 😀 After I finish with my GM army and other planned stuff for 2015 I may grab 3 of those Hi-Mocks and make a nice diorama… too bad my building/painting pace is so slow nowadays so I am not sure if it cloud be done within my current lifespan 🙂
Hey Syd and Ryan nice eps, Syd will you be reviewing the try burning in the next eps. Also Ryan loves that C3PO in that little Tokyo display and one last question is Gunpla/Gundam cheaper in Japan? Because I hate buying Gunpla/gundam that are over 30$ or 40$ and with it shiping taxs.
Great job guys! Stumbled upon hobbylink japan in youtube a few months ago. Watching the 1st few episodes taught me how to get started in the hobby. Keep up the good work! Thanks guys!
I can hardly wait for the Zaku II (Origin Ver.) with two different sets of shoulders so you can have it with or without Gatling guns. Also, as Yoshikazu Yashuhiko gave each Suit its individual insignia placement, I’m wondering about the possibility that there will be set of stickers included with the kits or whether Bandai plan on releasing a set of Water-slide Decals.
The Hi-Mock is certainly interesting as it is almost a blank slate when it comes to customising. I’ve seen what Hobby Japan made with a few Hi-Mocks and Builders Parts which made me want to get some so I can try it out for myself!
I’m curious if you guys will be giving out un-built kits at any point. It’s great to have them for free and all, but my favorite part about getting any kit is the building of said kit, and I’m sure I’m not alone on that opinion.
Just bought my first Gundam kit at Barnes and Nobles, I had never seen them before. I picked up the Gundam Exia RG kit. I love the build and I enjoy watching your shows. Found you on YouTube and I enjoy the info and the tutorials, thanks.
Good episode of Gunpla Tv as usual Syd and Ryan, love watching Gunpla TV to see all the latest releases for kits and to see your builds for some of the kits too.
Love the show. You guys inspired me to start building gunpla for the first time a couple of months ago. Any advice on panel lining–how to put in enough detail without going overboard? As a beginner, sometimes I feel I want to outline all the concave corners as well as the engraved panel lines. I also prefer the contrast of a black line against white armor instead of using gray, but I want to make sure I don’t go too far and ruin the result. Thanks!
Gunpla generally tend to not have too many panel lines, just enough to break up large swathes of color. You can scribe your own panel lines if you like.
If you’re doing a panel wash, controlling the amount of paint flowing into the panel lines is usually pretty easy to do. Not so much with Gundam markers. The panel line ones tend to be too big for most panel lines anyway.
As for painting the corners of armor, you actually can, and the effects are sometimes really cool. There’s a technique called dry-brushing that you might want to look up. Good luck with your experimentation and results.
For me so far, I haven’t yet felt the need to add more detail by scribing new panel lines (!)–I think I’ve got my hands full just trying to bring out the detail that is already there. My first build was a 1/100 MG and I tried the fine line gundam markers for panel lining. They weren’t horrible at that scale, but you’re right that they were a bit thick. I also found that sometimes they applied unevenly. I’m currently using a 0.03 copic multiliner and think it produces much better results, particularly on the 1/144 suits I’ve been practicing on.
As for corners, I was talking more about lining the “inner” corners where it looks like separate physical pieces would meet on a full-scale MS, although it’s all molded as one piece in the model. A panel wash would work fine there, but not dry brushing I don’t think. I would expect dry brushing to work best for raised corners/edges, which sounds like what you mean.
As for the regular gundam paint markers, I’ve only used them for minor touchups of gate marks after trimming, or as the source for paint for a few hand-painted details.
Thanks for the comments. Also, is there a work-in-progress section on here where people get feedback on their builds as they go? I didn’t find anything like that after some poking around–just lots of shots of completed builds.
1.) Ah, you see what I did there? I mistook “concave” for “convex” and my mind never corrected itself. Well then. Yes, panel washes would be alright there. If you’re worried about going overboard, you might want to tone down the color of the panel wash. If you’re using black, try gray. If you’re on a colored piece, try using a similar (lighter or darker) color.
2.) I don’t know about here. I honestly haven’t delved too much into the build community here, either. The layout of the site doesn’t exactly facilitate community interaction, as far as I can see. A few groups, but no dedicated forum or the like. I’d like to get to know the HLJ community a bit more as well.
There are some good gunpla/sci-fi/etc. hobby forums out there, though. I used to frequent Hobby Fanatics, but that’s a bit of a ghost town now. Gundam Eclipse seems to be active still, though.
ooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmggggggggggggggggggggssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
ay another great show .
Thanks for another fun episode. I built that MG Sengoku Astray myself. It was quite enjoyable. I plan on eventually detailing it with paint and markers, etc. I really want to try and get into the HG line, but so far I am sticking with the MG scale.
Oh yeah and hopefully that RNG will pick me for the Build Strike MG to square off against my Astray.
hey guys great show as always. would love to get some MG love but if not oh well keep up the great work guys i will keep watching for great new gunpla and gunpla news.
Love the show guys as always. I also like to watch old episodes while I work on my Gundam kits. Keep up the good work.
Does Anna always match her nail polish with the Gundam she is building, or is it Gundam marker. LOL
oooooooooooooh duuuuuuuuuuude! I hope I win that Sengoku! My bro’s dog ate my HG, and I have refused to buy a replacement. It would be so cool to have another, especially the MG. Great Episode guys, I really love how awesome the show is coming along.
Amazing Episode and when you guys said that there is going to be a RG GN-0000 00+GNR-010 Raiser my jaw just dropped. And when I saw the Sengoku Astray Gundam on Gundam Build Fighters all that I could think of was a Gundam that looks more like a Samurai.
The Space Jahannam I got was great, I’m getting the Beargguy F next to build with my Girlfriend. She thought it was cute, and I’m starting a collection. Thank you Syd and Ryan; without you two I would have never found HLJ, and never started building Gunpla.
hello syd and ryan i heard kotobukiya just announced the 1/72 hmm zoid kit the deathstinger is going to be coming out, do you have any news on the release date if you guys do it would be awesome thanks and more power to you guys.
FYI, the Catsith shares precisely the same name origin as Cait Sith from Final Fantasy. It’s Gaelic, pronounced “Cat Shee,” and refers to a black cat type creature from Scottish folklore.
I might not be remembering this correctly, but I believe he uses a Tamiya brand cutter. I doubt there are significant differences between cutters. I bought whichever one was available at my hobby store (a Testors one, I think) and it’s served me well for years now. It could probably use a good honing, and the spring mechanism has long since snapped apart, but that doesn’t stop it from snipping away plastic just fine.
Hey guys, love the show! I just finished building the PG unicorn, and it is every bit of awesome as you guys described. Im now hooked on pg. I am interested on building the pg astray red frame, is there anything i should know of about that kit before i start?
I remember someone said something similar in an earlier video, and it’s a shame people feel that way. The G-Rec designs are some of the best Gundam has ever had to offer. Lots of splitting away from the archetypal Gundam design aesthetics, which I suppose is the reason people don’t like them, but you know what they say, variety is the spice of life and status quo the starch…
Hi Guys
Keep up the great work.!
I have watched every episode, lots of great tips and insite.
As a newbie it can be confusing where to begin
I so far prefer the Zaku, Phoenix and Shin Matsunaga.
I am not new to model building but am new to Gundam.
Cheers
SGT Spike
I’m definitely getting that RG Raiser, I hated all Crossbone variants be it MG or HG, everyday I regretted purchasing the MG Crossbone FC, everything just falls apart when you try to pose it, and it feels like an HG comparing to other MGs. If I could turn back time, I would go back and punch myself so hard out of conscious, purchase that MG Force or Sword Impulse Gundam instead, and come back to real time. What was I thinking…
Great episode guys I felt so tempted by the Hi-Mock but after realizing it’s only 2 runners I guess I’ll put my money on other build fighters kits. shipping isn’t exactly the cheapest where I live.
also, MK-II GET!
Hey Guys, Just got into Gunpla TV a month ago when I stumbled upon your live stream (or at least the video of it) of Syd building the Neo Zeong and I have been working to catch up on old episodes since. I’ve got to say, Great work guys and Gals, keep up the good work.
Oo really want that Sengoku Astray. Especially since a leg joint on my Red Frame broke recently. Kinda bummed about that seeing how it was my first MG, but it’s standing…for now.
To be honest, I miss something that would WOW me. There’s not all that much to be excited for. The last thing that got me excited was the Hi Nu and that was about it. KIND OF excited about the Dijeh but we still need to see it all built up with all the details. Red Serpent Zeta would do the trick too. I’m waiting on the release date. Got my Gray Zeta. Now I’m just waiting on the release of the same to get to painting and detailing.
Dalong is always a good source. The site is in Korean, but its pictures are numerous and well-shot. It provides scans of manuals, runner pics, parts layouts for specific body parts, etc. For English-speaking reviews, there’s always the Youtube personalities.
Prime92 has been around for a while. I’m not a fan, but the majority of Gunpla fans seem to enjoy her(?) videos.
Rrobbert184 used to do video reviews (and still does picture-n-text ones here on Hobbylink.tv), but not anymore. His reviews of older kits, though, are still pretty good.
Vegeta8259 hasn’t had a new video in months, but he also tends more towards the “hardcore” crowd. On his channel you’ll see resin kits, painting, putty-work, kitbashing, etc. Lots of good tutorial videos.
I just took a look at TYPE V3’s review of the R-Gyagya, and that video seemed to be pretty well-done. You might want to check him out as well, see what you think.
Amiami’s a competitor to HLJ, but its product pages often provide fairly high-res pictures of the contents of each kit.
I like HGs as much as the next guy but I agree that MG and above are well worth the price. You should wrap some guilt chocolates up in those boxes are you send them out to the lucky winners!
Once upon a time, an aspiring GunPal named Syd-chan was running to school, buttered toast firmly clenched in his mouth. Today was the first day of the new semester at Hobby Link High School, and he couldn’t bear the humiliation of being late on the first day. All his focus was on making it on time. So it was that, as Syd-chan rounded the corner, he barreled straight into the unexpecting chest of Ryan-senpai.
“Ah! Yabai!” Syd-chan cried out as his clumsy feet failed him and he tumbled toward the pavement. Then the oddest thing happened: he felt a strong, rugged hand grasp his flailing fingers and hold him steady until he regained his balance. Ryan-senpai’s fingers felt rough and calloused from all the hobby knife wounds he had suffered battling the hydrocarbon army known as the Gunpla.
Syd-chan blushed furiously and kept his gaze glued to the pavement. Ryan-senpai hadn’t let go of his hand! “A-a-a-a-arigatou, Ryan-senpai,” he stuttered, unsure of what to do now. A small crunch made him finally look up; Ryan-senpai was eating his toast! He watched, mortified, as his senpai chewed once, twice, then swallowed, then grasped the other corner of the toast and finally, mercifully, freed it from his mouth.
“I believe this is yours?” Ryan-senpai asked, his voice mellifluous like a mesmerizing alto. “Thanks for breakfast.” He let go of Syd-chan’s hand.
Syd-chan took back his toast with part terror, and part curiosity. Ryan-senpai had eaten one corner. If he ate that same corner, that would mean…
“YOU’REVERYWELCOME!” he squeaked out as the implications dawned on him. Burning with embarrassment, Syd-chan quickly thanked his savior, bowed, and dashed the rest of the way to school.
Oh, what a terrible start to the day!
to be continued
in
Hyper GunPal Syd-Chan!
Episode 2 – The Gates of Destiny
I love that the Hi Mock in fiction is the cheap suit you throw together to use for target practice, and in real life, it’s a super cheap suit you can build in 45 minutes as a troop builder.
I was finally able to watch all the episodes and now starting to build kits. Lo and Behold the first kit i am able to complete is the Grimoire, which you just featured last episodes.
Yeah!!! Star wars kits and new models!! this is a great year to be into Plamo. that RG 00 Raiser is just what I had been waiting for. thanks for yet another awesome episode Syd and Ryan!
Love the design of the mega shiki and hi mock. The toyko thingy is really cool too. Great episode as always, and I was wondering what happened to the kitbash? Did I miss an episode somewhere?
Whoa, I’m still blown away by all of the starwars stuff being shown. But I also lovin’ dem gundam build fighters kits. Transient Gundam seems amazing. Also maybe I’ll get lucky on the giveaway for either of those, I love the show cause of all of the references they give us from old gundam series while promiting something for younger generation. Each episode is all about the hype.
Thnx for all the hard work you guys do there, peace.
Another great episode. The RE GP04 is looking really nice. And I hope to see some potential MG releases for Build Fighters Try suit. So far the HG line has impressed me.
I remember when bandai announced the RE line and The GP04 Gerbera was among the first releases, it blown my mind, considering that the Gerbera is one of my favourite suits, and the online available kits so far were resin ones.
Great show and great prizes, I do prefer the designs of the first season to the second one. City scape kit is cool, wonder if they will do other major cities.
great job doing the thing, guys!!!
by the way, since the give aways this week are sengoku astray and build mark ii, i got a question for you guys;
if you were going to build a gundam kit for the sole purpose of modifying it and using it to fight other gundam kits (if such a thing were possible), what kit would you choose? the EW Heavyarms would be my choice
Go big or go home, come on MG kits, smile on me this episode.
Good show as always, and yes getting one of those posters on your wall would be the bomb! How about just giving them away when you rotate them out? Wouldn’t mind one with a few pin holes.
On another note, just finished my MG Full Armor Unicorn vKa. It was an amazing build with all the decals. I’ll post a few pictures up to the user area as I pose him. Now onto that PG Unicorn. Clear the decks here I come!
Hope you all have a great Lunar New Year. Look forward to future episodes.
I’m not sure if they still do, but Bandai USA used to offer a one-time free parts replacement. You should contact them via email, and include in your email the model kit and part number(s).
As for third parties, Bluefin (official US distributor for Bandai) also has a parts replacement policy, though I don’t know if it also covers purchasing extra parts/runners. There are/were some other third party companies that dabble/d in parts replacement, including HLJ, but that seems to have died down recently. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve developed a habit of simply building the piece I need from scratch.
love how you give out models from previous episodes, though it would be cool if you’d give out some unopened ones form time to time because lets face it half the fun is building them. XD
Thanks for your comment on the HG. Recently, I’ve finally revisit my childhood hobby with a RG RX-78 and I love it. Was hesitant on the HG cause I remember the cheap 1/144 kits I was exposed to were all one color.
Well I’m late to the show again, enjoyed the episode as per usual. Has there been any news from Bandai about a Star Wars Millennium Falcon, or slave 1?
I’m looking to move into kits above HG now, and I love the build fighter series, winning one of those kits up for grabs would be great.
I Finally watched all 166 episodes!!! I’m already a college student and watching all these episodes from 1 felt like a Gunpla college course!, is there a mid-term? FINAL? but I’ve recently got back into the hobby after 9-10 years out of it. Thanks to a friend who found a store with kits and had me hold his hand through the HG kit, Now I’m getting back into it, I have two MG kits, a RG and a SD sitting in my room since I before hand painted the kits, now I’m going all in and have a airbrush and compressor coming in the mail and slowly building a home made paint booth. But compared to kits when I was 11 to now thank god Gunpla TV exists and I watched all of them cause I fully caught up and can’t wait to get building, painting, and modding!!! Keep up the great content
I have always been a fan of the MKII. The HG MkII booster also, some what work on the RG. The color on the booster look surprisingly good with the RG Titan MkII.
I currently have a Red Frame Astray Kai, It would be so cool if i can bash the Red frame kai and the sengoku with each other and make something cool
I love how you guys do this I my ask for a job application in the future and thanks to you guys I am finally getting my first perfect grade, it chose me!!!!
well , soon i’ll be working on a perfect grade 1/60 unicorn gundam and that tutorial you guy’s made : i’ll use it for sure !!! thy for that guy’s you guy’s rock !!!!
I haven’t seen a single didgt number win yet so if this wins please pick a number between in the range on 1 to 9 and send them the one I would have won.
I was doing some spring cleaning when I found my unopened RG Zaku. I thought “My god I haven’t seen an episode of Gunpla TV since 157!”. I immediately binge-watched all missed episodes.
Hi syd and ryan I want to ask you what is the different between private warehouse and ship when available at hlj I want to checkout the item, but I don’t know the different. also I love the show I spend 3 to 4 day watch all the episode. keep up the great work.
Be awesome to win one of those kits! When topcoating(flat), should I not put on stickers before I do it, will it discolour the stickers. And is there a black version of the paint markers?
Pick me! Pick me! Love it when Ryan gets goofy or says some side comment that’s kinda inappropriate. Haha. Btw, you guys are one of my favorite channels on YouTube!
The G-Self Display Base fully in color. It was a bit tricky to paint because it’s mostly molded in big size pieces. Some of the colors turned out to be a bit darker than I wanted. Nevertheless it looks pretty nice.
anyone looked at the recent RE 1/100 the GP04? I am pretty sure it would look even more awesome if its MG but hey i would selcome a new addition to the GP series
If you didn’t catch our complete build of the 1/100 RE/100 Gundam Mk-III you can check it out but don’t worry, Syd goes into detail about the completed kit in this episode. The PG Unicorn makes another appearance […]
Hi guys great episode just wondering what are your thoughts on the seed/destiny franchise? Even though the anime isnt really well liked the series(in my opinion) has some of the most interesting looking gundams, destiny gundam being my favorite.
Great episode once again guys!
Gunpla scene is still kinda bland since it’s just the start of the year but I am feeling that this will be a year of UC (Universal Century) kits with the release of the first Gundam: The Origin movie. Already ‘blessed’ by the MK-III, we might see some MG ver 3.0s aside from the already announced HG Char’s Zaku (Origin Version) and the Guntank Early type.
Looking forward to your next episode!
All good kits this week on the giveaway, I already own one of them but haven’t built it yet. Not gonna say which one because the sinister random number machine would probably give me that one. Good show guys and loved the ladies Mega-Shiki Info.
On a side note, I believe the Schuzrum Gallus is supposed to be the Strum Gallus – Engrish got the best of the kit (like the upcoming Hi-Nu Vrabe which should be Brave).
Well, it’s not engrish, as Schurzum isn’t english. Schur in German means shear, and Schurz in german means Apron. Zeon’s mobile suits all carry Direct German names, or names Derived from modified German words. Although apron would make no sense in it’s name, I guess shear[ing] could, idk.
And why would you go that far as to guess that Vrabe should be Brave but due to an “engrish” error got twisted? With that logic every other word that doesn’t make sense in english is a wrongly written or wrongly spelled english word. There are languages out there other than english.
In the case of Brave/Vrabe, I believe the Japanese use the same katakana for ‘v’ and ‘b’ sounds. You could just as easily anglicize that as Brabe/Vrave.
(This coming from my very limited understanding of Japanese script. If I’m wrong, please correct me.)
Not enamored with the new Shiki, but that’s par for the course with these Build Fighters kits. A lot of hit and miss. (By the by, the undergating is a result of the original base kit – the HGUC Hyaku Shiki – being gold-plated.)
Does anyone know any specific episodes where they discuss Hasegawa (Macross) kits? I’m going through my old collection and found a VF-1S I started waaay back in middle school and am currently in the process of cleaning it to start as fresh as possible. Lots of super glue to scrape and sand away. Yuck.
Anyway. To repeat a question I asked before: Any possibility of including those posters in giveaways and/or selling them on the store? Good luck with the drawing, everybody.
i like turn A, syd, u know syd mead designed turn A gundam MS, so syd have to like it. 🙂 the niggata one is call the NG48, i like perfume, ak48 is a bit much.
I like turn A gundam’s POWER MUSTACHE, but not the overall design so much. I’m hyped for the February restock of your HGUC-Acguy (Acguy 2016). Almost ordered a Gundam Mk-III today but another kit caught my eye.
Awesome episode as always guys, never cease to disappoint. One quick question, I have recently started fully customizing my kits, Using all given decals, painting, and flat coating. I wanted to know, what is the best way to go about flat coating clear parts? Specifically 00 Kits, like the HG 00 Qan [t] and the MG GNX-III. It’s pretty hard to mask every joint sometimes, and 00 kits in particular have a ridiculous amount of clear parts.
I’m not sure what issue you’re having… Flat coats are clear, so there shouldn’t be any issue spraying them over clear parts. If you’re trying to avoid spraying the clear parts at all, then simply pop them off, spray the rest of the model, then re-apply them.
Perhaps you could explain your problem in greater detail?
The main issue i’m having is hazing. I have a MG GNX-III that i built 2-3 years ago that was in shambles, completely destroyed for whatever reason. I decided to use it as a sort of spray paint punching bag to test things out. i used Tamiya TS-80 Flat coat and sprayed it all over. Looks incredible on every surface, except on the camera on the crest of the head and GN drive cover in the chest, they both completely fogged over.
Ah. Well, I’d defer to Syd and/or other more experienced hobbyists on this, but if it were me, I would just not spray the clear parts. Remove them from the kit, flat coat the kit, and then re-apply them afterwards. They should be fairly easy to install/remove on those 00 kits. Alternatively, you can sand and polish the fogged-up part using sandpaper in increasing grits (400 to 600 to 1000 to etc.) and polishing compound.
I must admit I don’t remember ever having this problem myself, but then I just recently got back into the hobby, so my memory isn’t particularly fresh.
Good luck. Working with clear plastic is never fun.
I have just one word for you. Masking. You won’t be able to flat top coat clear parts without them fogging up. It all depends on the amount of the coat itself of course. I tend to airbrush Mr.Hobby aqueous flat and to tell you the truth, all I need to do is a few light trigger presses here and there. You go heavy on that thing and the only thing you get are problems. So a light coat is all you need. I’d imagine Tamiya spray can flat works more or less the same. If you think clear parts are a nightmare to flat coat, you should try flat coating black. The effect is similar to bleaching (if you go nuts with it) and the end result is more of a dark grayish color than black. As for the Future, it’s great for glosses but tends to yellow the whites after a few coats. I’ve used it for years. It’s a cheap replacement for the gloss coats and can be applied with a regular brush.
Gloss finishes might help. Looking around the web, I see a lot of mentions of Future floor polish being used as well. You might be interested in that. You’d have to make sure to either spray them apart from the rest of the kit or do a lot of masking, though. Unless you want the entire thing glossed up.
I didn’t consider it at first, but weather may have something to do with it. If you spray in a particularly hot/cold/humid environment, you can get fogging issues. I doubt that’s the case in your situation, but there you are.
“Flat top coat will fog up any clear parts. Make sure to remove or mask any exposed clear components like mooneye visors or the green orbs on the MG Gundam Exia, for example.”
I’m rather disappointed in bandai over the RE/100 release of the mk3 and the upcoming GP-04. Both of these are kits that could easily be made into MG kits, as they’re not very large. RE/100 is ok if they’re releasing more kits along the size of the nightengale, but to release two MS that aren’t even in the size league of kits like the Perfect Zeong, Ex-S, The O, Sazabi, etc is not cool in my book. MG Mk3 and Gp-04 should have been done along time ago.
I agree. Slightly taller kits don’t qualify for the re-100 and they shouldn’t. The Nightingale was ok. An MG of the thing would cost somewhere around 15000 yen but these three, MKIII, GP04 and the Dijeh should and could be done as an MG kits with more big kits such as some mobile armors from the series, for example, keeping the exclusive right for the re-100. I don’t mind all that much but they got a bit lazy and more greedy opting out the cheaper and easier solution for what could have been done the way that people would enjoy more.
Dealing with the size constraint was never the sole factor in starting this line. The Nightingale, Mk. III, GP04 – none of these kits are wildly popular. They’ve got their fans, but (owing largely to the fact that they were never animated) not so much that they could make up production costs of an MG kit. This line isn’t just for large designs; it’s for designs that are “second-tier” popularity-wise.
That said, I would really dig a RE/100 Dendrobium. Because Dendrobium.
165?? amazing show.. feeling bad that i’ve only known about you guys now. Pretty new to the hobby and i’ve just built 2 HG kits. Waiting to built a Master Grade. Which would recommend Syd? I would want something that would be interesting and complex
Pg unicorn looks nice with the LEDs and all, but i think the LEDs are a waste of money, you can most likely buy tools and materials to makes the LEDs yourself with enough research and dedication and all
Great episode syd and ryan. Syd do you think Bandai is getting on the undergate train? and I have to say I love me them Jegans. and I’m still begging for a MG release a RE release would be very disappointing.
The undergating on the Shiki is just a holdover from the HGUC Hyaku Shiki, which was gold-plated and thus featured undergating to mitigate visible nub marks marring the gold finish.
lol!!! that mega shiki and mega ride launcher combination sequence cracked me up. good one guys! awaiting more MG release announcements and looking forward to more episodes.
Hi Guys, I’m a french Ninja and I need to have a fast mobile suit, so I hope you will give me the High Mobility Zaku for my next mission. Thank you for all this videos. Bye.
This is probably the most energized I’ve seen Ryan on Gunpla-TV in a long while and Syd was unusually cheeky to boot. You two have coffee or something prior to filming?
Either way its great to see you energized Ryan, I look forward to further updates about japenese idols next week!
Sorry, have to get this of my liver, already 110 comments and only 4 likes…?! All comments just to win Gunpla? A shame…… 🙁
Anyways, I (at least in my opinion) have a cool car, am a mechanic, look good enough (as to some women that’s an understatement, can’t see it myself), do some wicked martial arts and build Gunpla and other plastic models. So what does that make me, still a nerd…? LOL
Oh, and even play video games…. Damn, I’m a nerd!!!!
Ah well, as long as you have fun doing what you’re doing and don’t collect action figures and keep them sealed up in their boxes (get it? 40 year old virgin…)
And got to love your cat, when she’s trying to help build your kit. Leaps on the table when it is full with parts that just have been cleaned or painted… If only there was a plastic model of a mouse that I could get her so she can build it.
I’ll sneak up on her and jump right into the box with parts. Hahahahaha.
Great episode as always, please keep them coming for as long as you can!
I take offense to being called the gunpla emo! Well not really, everyone has their own preferences towards ms designs, mine are just a little more odd ball :P.
Oh gawd, that unicorn made me want to buy an LED kit for mine .-. Still building it and I can’t get over how big it is!
There’s too many things putting my wallet in a coma though, first the unicorn and other kits I got after Christmas, and now Bionicle is coming back… Please have mercy on a mere student!
I’m still on the fence about the PG Unicorn.. Shipping. Lighting kit availability, and loan approval ;)’
Got the Re/100 Mk. III and really like it. I have a bunch of MG’s but sometimes the inner frames seem wasteful if you build with armor on, and paint. Removing pieces scrapes the paint (for me)
Also I really want to know what your cohosts did last weekend. Sounds like it might be at LEAST as interesting as Gunpla
To be precise, it’s a HG. Long time ago when HG kits started coming out they were all 1/100 scale. In time they disappeared leaving room for smaller 1/144 HG kits as they were cheaper and more desired than the big ones. But now that 1/100, with MG kits, became so popular again they decided to re-release the old 1/100 HG line and call it the RE-100 or Revive-100. It should have been an exclusive for big and expensive kits that would cost 10000+ yen as an MG in that scale, such as the Nightingale kit would be too expensive to produce and sell. But they took the wrong turn somewhere and decided that they should do some of the regular 1/100 designs that could easily be done in an MG form, for a lot less money that would again cost less for the buyer. An MG looks much better with a lot less effort than the new MKIII. I think I’ll start calling them “pro kits” simply because they would require a full paint and detail job to make them look at least as good as an MG does without the paint.
To be more precise, the Reborn 100 series are a “revival” of sorts of the old 1/100 kits that stopped being made after Seed/Seed Destiny. They were around for most of the 90s Gundams – V, Wing, X, etc. – and were typically of higher quality than the smaller 1/144 HG kits of the same series. The problem was that they were becoming almost too good. The difference in tech between Bandai’s MG kits and their 1/100 kits was shrinking. Essentially, they were competing with themselves.
So they axed the 1/100 “No-Grade” kits, and for… wow, a decade now… they stuck to a simpler formula:
1.) 1/144 HG kits during a show’s run.
2.) 1/100 MG kits of the popular suits at key moments, with the first release (always?) being the lead suit.
Fast-forward to 2014, and I suppose some board executive and gunpla enthusiast managed to convince the rest of Bandai to invest in the RE100 line, which would seek to focus on two key points:
– larger designs in 1/100 scale at a reasonable production cost and selling price
– making kits of some of the more obscure but popular designs in Gundam history
The Nightingale, the first RE100 release, was always fairly popular with Gundam fans, but its size made a decently-priced MG impossible. RE100 fixed that.
The Mk. III and GP04 are likewise fairly popular, but not so much that Bandai would be able to recoup the losses needed to make MGs of them. RE100 fixed that.
Great episode! Looking forward to the Master grade announcements for mid year, hoping to see some love for Zeta gundam and Build Fighters Try…. need me some MG Build burning
If I would to get the PG Unicorn and would not like to spend extra for the LED pack, would it be possible to “engineer” your own circuit with your own LED lights???
I’m new to gunpla but I’ve already built the sd sengoku astray and the build strike full package HG and the next one that I’m current looking to buy is the sinanju HGUC and also I was wondering if your ever going to do a review on shin musha mg, endless waltz heavyarms HG, and RX-121-1 Gundam TR-1 Hazel Custom HGUC?
I tend to rewatch older episode of you guys as i build gundams. And let me tell you, you guys are like a part of me, i wish you guys get more “screen time”. Really enjoy your shows, cause there are no other gundam youtubers as awesome as you guys, now that robert is gone…
Then should 1 be connecting them in series or parallel circuit, which would be better??? And what type of battery n volt amount??? Hope to gain more inform about these from you
That’s going to require a lot of trial and error on your part, unfortunately.
Take a look at LEDs first. Find out their max voltage (shouldn’t be much) and go from there. (Note: Some hobbyists underpower their LEDs because LEDs can give off too much light at times. A head’s-up.)
Oh man, I had no idea Turn-X, Grimoire and Zgok lovers were in the minority. I love those guys! Rounded robots are great. There’s something so space age about them.
Anyways, I have a question! I’ve been having trouble with nub marks. It seems no matter what I do I get stress marks, even when shaving down the nubs milimeter by milimeter with a new blade on an x-cto knife. Do you have any tips for getting rid of these?
Also, I might be in the minority, but I’d prefer more episodes of Gundam TV where ypu guys talk about stuff (like this one) over building episodes. I feel like episodes where you build stuff are like spoilers, since seeing how these kits come together is like 80% of the fun.
1.) The only surefire way to get them visibly gone is sanding smooth then (optionally and optimally) painting over it.
2.) You can sometimes use your fingernail or blade tip to “scrape” at the white marks and reduce their appearance.
3.) Sanding down with some fine-grit sandpaper (400-600 grit) will usually get you pretty good results.
4.) Thin model cement (the kind you can brush on) sometimes helps, too. Brush a small amount onto the nub mark. Let it cure. Scrape/sand away.
And a last resort:
5.) If and only if you have deft fingers and aren’t afraid of slashing your thumb open every now and again (I have the calluses to show for it), you can get some extremely fine cutting done by choking up on the knife (with your index finger on or almost on the back of the blade). Hold the plastic piece in your other hand and bring it up to the blade, then “pinch” lightly on the plastic with your knife-hand thumb to get better control. Use your entire hand to “slice” the blade toward your thumb. You can also rock either the plastic against the blade with your other hand or rock the blade against the plastic with your knife hand. The point is to “slice” with a length of blade rather than “chop” by just pressing down with one part of the blade.
ok have have at wonderfest, I like the information I get on builds form u guys, I was wondering 2 things will the crew everycome to Comic-Con or Anime-Expo in the USA and will u do a custom build for the show?
Guys how much Gundams do you build on average every month. I hit an all time high last month with 5 new gundams I built and I have more on the way, think I need to go to gunpla rehab.

Hey guys, another good show. How do you keep doing it?! its crazy. Anyway, Syd, and ryan, i was wondering what your thoughts are on HG kits in general. You guys always sing the praise of all the other its, but with HG, you are like ” meh, its a HG”. The quality of HG kits today is a big leap from some of the older ones.
Every time I see the PG Unicorn it makes me want to buy it with the LEDs even more, but I’m gonna hold out on the hope that Bandai might have a PG Sinanju in the works, all of the kits look awesome guys, keep it up Gunpla TV 😀
Its Great to see the PG Unicorn again, every time I try to watch the 8 part build, I fall asleep half way through and forget what happened before I fall asleep. Still an aswesome show
i on RAGE mode , Syd and Ryan what you think the SD Star wining gundam? can it transformers into a nomarl size 1/144 gunpla or that will be other gunpla ?
The Mk3 gundam should be in MG line, not RE. I think Bandai are loosing their way on making model kits. By the way, great episode guys hope one day Syd will give away a PG Unicorn! That would be fun, really really fun 🙂
Another great episode guys! That PG Unicorn is perfection. I hope they come out with more Master Grades from the Build Fighters anime like the Transient Gundam and the Wing Gundam Fenice.
Hi there!Am surprised you compared the MK-III with a “small” MG but not with a big MG like the Sazabi or the Nu. I think it’s about the same size, thus confirming that an MG of this thing could be possible. As for the Unicorn, I was really hoping that the reflection from the LEDs would light up a bit the biceps’psychoframe and the ankle, but from the video, it’s clearly not the case. Am definitely gonna have to add more LEDs to light up these parts. Now I can start building this monster.
I love these episodes, always seeing that PG Unicorn blows my mind. I want to get 1 but cannot currently spend that kind of money (well i can but i dont have the time to put it together lol).
I cant wait for the dark matter exia MG, once I see you guys review it, I think I will want to buy it myself since I am a HUGE gundam 00 fan.
awesome show as always guys..keep up the good work..hoping for new MG from Bandai as there havent any MG that really excites me these few month.hoping for a 3.0 Zaku as I’ve never build an MG Zaku before.
I’ve got pile of kits to build and a 1 year old. If Bandai could just hold off making awesome stuff for like, a year or two? Get the kid to where I can work while he’s around? That would be super.
What are ur opinions of the newly released pictures of the RG 00 Raiser? predicting any weight issues? also wat about the hgbf full clothe crossbone? what makes it hgbf
Hey sid and ryan. Great episode. Just want to ask, what is the difference between RE/100 and no grade 1/100 scale? Tnx in advance. Keep on inspiring us guys. Rock on.
Great episode. Its nice to see bandai strengthen the rigidity of the RE/100 kits. I have a old heavy arms custom from the gundam wing series and its literally heavy arms, can’t hold up its own weapons. Love the designs on the thunderbolt suits, can never have enough stuff on your backpack when going into space.
Amazing MK3 kit, although not master grade it still does the original gundam a favor. I always love seeing older gundam model kits like zaku’s and the original gundam. Keep up the amazing work!
That was a great episode. The Mega-Shiki looks cool and so does the PG Unicorn. Hope I win something this time. I would love to add another HG to my collection.
Syd! You’ve got the rifle backwards! It goes on the inside of the arm! :p Also, your Unicorn is looking great! Looking forward to the next episode! Keep up the good work.
Another great episode.. I love the little skits from the girls.
It’s gonna be a gunpla few months as I’m ok temporary disability. Managed to finish my MG Gelgoog, and a Strike Noir so far. Not sure of the next kit.. thinking RX-782 3.0. I’d love a PG Unicorn.. just not in the cards right now.
Finally after watching all 164 episodes I’m all caught up with all the Gunpla TV Episodes. And my favorites episodes are the RG XXXG-00W0 Wing Zero Custom, RG GN-001 Gundam Exia(which I just got and built 7’12”) and all the Build videos that you’ve done.
Long time anime/gundam watcher, but only recently started looking at getting into gunpla a little! Previously had some experience with Games Workshop and Zvezda models, and now looking forwards to getting into the groove once more! Though, not so looking forwards to the 4 week delivery times, and however much i’ll need to spend on new paints. Enjoying the shows, maybe i’ll get lucky and see my name on one.
RE/100 MKIII is really on of the better designs and it will look beautiful after a paint job by a serious modeller, trust me. Sometimes lees is more and I would trade all those fancy MG gimmicks for a cool design anytime! 😛
PS.: Still waiting for those GD-53 0080 decals I ordered back in 2013. My longest open order ever 😀 Hey Syd, could you please check if it is discontinued or there is still hope? Thanks!
Nice show as always, I really enjoy watching ur episodes, i didnt used to post comments cuz i was lazy and to be honest i have very bad luck but i had nothing to lose jajjaja
A question to the members: Is there a simpler way of checking these comment “threads” than manually searching through the long list of comments? Thanks all.
Great episode as usual. What is going on with HLJ’s supply of MGs? Are you guys just selling out quickly or is Bandai not producing MGs in the same quantities anymore?
Painted cleaned up and assembled Takara Tomy’s DMK 03 Optimus prime from age of extenction. i used Metalic silver, deep blue and metalic red, and secondary colour done with…
The ability to stand was probably not a high priority as the model is supposed to depict the appearance of Red 5 during the battle of Ceres, which occurred outside of any planetary atmosphere.
Out of the six Units in Team Rabbits only Gold Four, Black Six and possibly Blue One could be made into model kits that would be able to stand unaided. Purple Two and Rose Three however, would be out of the question as they have no legs whatsoever.
I’ve ordered my share of hands in the past, but you my friend set me to shame. Hahaha
But I have to say, they work great.
If you don’t mind me asking, what kits are you going to use them for?
I am using the square hands to replace ,MG Gundam Unicorn+Banshee, MG Gundam Rx79 G+ Ez8 , MG Gundam Rx78. and MG powered GM when i get it and MG GM ground type.
😀
It’s been a busy week here in the office and when Syd and Ryan sat down to discuss what to show in this week’s episode Syd mentioned the MK-III. Then he showed Ryan the box. Then he had a […]
Outstanding build Syd. I very much appreciate you taking time to build this kit for us. I already bought mine and now I’m much more excited in building it than before. And one of the reasons is because is taller than I thought.
On a side note, this guy has a full armor variant. I suppose we can expect a FA set from bandai in the moths to come. I really hope the MK-IV and MK-V get the RE treatment. I want more of this obscure mobile suits for the RE line.
i know its got nothing to do with the gundam models etc but could any of the hobbylink members can a 1/12 Yamaha YZF-R1 Taira Racing or any type of 1/12 bike model pleaseee
I love the build I am not really a fan of that gundam model but if it was repainted and customized a little I could like it looks to be based off of the lighting gundam.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t see why to make a RE/100 out of this suit. I doesn’t look that big to me. When I’m thinking of RE/100, I think of Kshatriya and the Nightingale as they’ve done already.
Feels to me that if Bandai went an extra half mile (yes, not even a mile), they would have given us an excellent new MG….
Less an issue of size and more an issue of potential profits. The MK-III as far as Bandai is concerned lacks the popularity to warrant a full MG release; which in part is why the RE /100 exists to give lesser known suits a chance to make it your display case.
So far all the suits announced for the RE/100 line have been from obscure side stories (except the MSK-008 Dhijeh) that were all released as Resin Kits from B-Club and were unbelievably expensive; ¥68,000 for a 1/100 Nightingale, ¥24,800 for a 1/100 Mk-III compared to the Re/100 ¥8,000 and ¥3,500 recommended retail price.
i like the model but i really don’t care for the colors that it has. had the colors on it have been different (maybe add some black it there) i think i would have like it a whole lot better.
I think the point of having this kit as an RE/100 than to be a MG treatment is that they(bandai) realize that this kit will not sell as much as common kits which appear in anime series and movies which if they made it into MG and the price is high will not sell/demand as the Hi Nu gundam or Nu gundam (which both kits are more massive and a handful of parts than the MK III). To think that I’m not familiar with this kit just the “real” gunpla fans will appreciate this and “maybe” this will also open new gunpla builders (like myself) to indulge farther to the gunpla world.
Looking at the list of discontinued 1/100 B-Club Resin Kits on HLJ there is about forty or so kits waiting to be “reborn” as a RE/100. I wouldn’t usually expect most of them to get chosen, but as they revealed that the Dijeh would be the fourth model in the line, anything is possible.
I would be pleasantly surprised if any of the following mobile suits make there way into the RE/100 line:
Desert GM
Domuttlia
Dowadge
Efreet
Full Armor Gundam MkII
Gaplant
Gelgoog Land Type
GM Cannon
Gouf Flight Type
Gundam Pixy
Hyakushiki Kai
Kowloon Gundam
OZ-06 Mobile Suit Leo
OZ-07AMS Aries Full Kit
Regelgu
Re-GZ Custom
Rick-Dias GK Version
RX78-6 Gundam Mudrock
Zaku Desert Type
Zaku Recon Type
Looks awesome. I really think the RE line is a god send for all those less known MS. Maybe we will finally see the RX-105 XI Gundam in this grade, haha.
Hi,
I finally managed to start the kit, it is a lovely kit with Pe included. The Pe is very delicate and fun to use, railing bends in the proper places, and I started with doing the railing around the hull and the cannons.
Hope to advance with the kit soon, as real life gets in the way :)…
Nice Group logo! Recently watched a re-edit of the prequels that combines them all into a single 3 hour movie. It was way better that the original prequels, Jar Jar Binks was completely removed, but even then it kinda sucked 🙁
