Gunpla TV – Episode 278 – VF-4 Lightning III!

Things are taking off this week with a look at a new VF-4 Lightning III Macross kit from Wave! Originally seen in the 1987 OVA “The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Flash Back 2012”, the VF-4 Lightning III was a successor to the previous and more well known VF-1 Valkyrie. We also take a quick look at the latest new Gundam releases in from Bandai!

Kits in this episode:
1/72 Macross: VF-4
1/144 HGUC Galbaldy Beta

Her favorite lines are Hasegawa's Mechatro WeGo line, Meng's World War Toons Pinky line, and weird miscellany like Platz's bonsai tree kits. In general, if it's a detailed miniature that's too small to be useful for anything other than taking up space, she'll probably love it.

  4. Wow, these pictures are some of the best I’ve seen yet of the VF-4. Good resolution, good focus, all of it just really good. Even with the kit in hand (unbuilt), I can definitely use these for reference material. Thanks very much!

  12. The best Macross airplane for me will always be the VF-2SS Valkyrie II. In robot form is unbelievable! The best mecha design ever. I’m still waiting for a good quality model kit of it. In robot form or transformable.

  13. Non-transforming VF’s is not a problem after having dealt with parts falling off the A’CKS VFG VF-31J Siegfried’ constantly. Plastic cement is highly recommended, if you are looking at this kit. Also paint.

    • My VFG stays together great only had one loose pieces on it and that was my fault for removing to much material when I was cleaning nubs

      • Then you got a much more solid copy of it than I did.

  22. I kind of don’t get why there’s that orange plastic in the Fumina figure. It’s not for the colors so I guess it would be for some kind of glow effect?

Now, would someone please tell me where I left my mind, I can’t find it and I need it for this weekend. It kinda looks like an ordinary white rabbit, last seen near the Cave of Caerbannog. If found, do NOT approach by any means, simply run away, then inform me of it’s whereabouts

    Thank you

  29. That multi-layered technique is pretty impressive. But I’m not a big fan of kits or figures that show too much skin.

  30. the new fumina looks good, but i was a bit dissapointed that the arms are just regular molded color and the nub marks may cause a problem for some people.

  31. I learned a lot about the Galbaldy Beta and liking the articulation. The V-4 design reminds me of the Yukikaze plane. I love this new product.

  36. I love Fumina in Try but there are plenty of other Gundam Women that are more mature which I would want kits of more. Say like Sumeragi Lee Noriega, Murrue Ramius, or Cima Garahau.

  40. The HG Galbaldy Beta has been one of those kits that I’ve really been looking forward to since release. I’ve always loved the Galbaldy Beta and when I heard that it was finally getting a modern kit, I was ecstatic.

I’m not too interested in the figure-rise Labo itself, but the engineering is smart. Hoping we can get some Gunpla in that tech for maybe gradient surfaces, maybe that way we can finally get a kit of the ELS Qan[T].

  46. I would like to be able to put together that Galbaldy Beta. Collecting figures is exciting, but being able to assemble oneself is even more exciting

  52. I’ve always been tempted to try a plane model kit, or anything else outside of gunpla. But they always seem more challenging.😓

    Reply
    • While there are harder kit types, there are also a lot of snapfit kits out there that aren’t gunpla, as well as some lines that are prepainted or don’t need paint! Even some of the kits that call for glue aren’t too bad. I like Hasegawa’s Mechatro WeGo line myself, which are on par with gunpla — no glue, and you don’t really need paint but you could always use it to make it look better. Meng’s line of World War Toons tank kits are also pretty fun and a little more challenging (but still easy, level-wise) — they’re technically snapfit, but a little glue helps to keep the really tiny pieces in place.

  53. im thinking about adding leds to some kits too.

Leds can be bought at incredibly small scales now. the 1:100 grimgerde would be cool. sadl it doeant use that much clear plastic.

  54. Nice jet! But the episodes seem to get shorter and shorter…
Please review some World War Toons kits if you get the chance 🙂

  56. Once more into the breech, as I desperately try to win 2,000JPY store credit…

So erm, noticed in the store description for SDBD RX-Zero Maru, it says the figure transforms into a flight form, which is inaccurate, as the RX-Zero Maru does not have a flight form. The bird is actually an additional mobile armour (like the flight pack off the Exia Dark Matter) that can combine with RX-Zero Maru to give it a Real-Mode like the Star Winning Gundam (if you look at the wings, they are literally shin-armour pieces). The way this works could possibly make it the most complicated SD kit we’ve had in a fair while.

…also, I wonder how long it took people to notice that the RX-Zero Maru is in fact a heavily re-tooled SD Gundam Unicorn? It doesn’t look like it, heheh.
