ok i decaled my hi nu painted it up gloss coated it and then finally i flat coated it and then all of a sudden it started frosting the entire model the decal on the head is completely gone thank god i only painted up the head piece with it help pls im so mad

    • Did you allow the gloss coat to completely cure before putting on the flat coat? What kind of gloss and flat did you use (laquer, acrylic?) Did you spray outside in the cold?

      • yea i did its tamiya acrylic and i used an airbrush and i sprayed a coat of it
and i did it in the house at night

        • I had the same problem with my MG Destiny. The flat coat was the worst of the two. It even happened with the gloss acrylic from Tamiya.
I did some searching on the web back then.
For the gloss it’s advised to spray two fogged layers and one final all covering one with a minimum of twelve minutes between coats. But it didn’t work for me. I sprayed…[Read more]

          • well what happend was i used the tamiya and it frosted up the entire head i used future for gloss coat and that didnt do any dmg but the tamiya destroyed my kit can i ask what kind of flat coat do u use i was thinking maybe i should use modelmaster but better safe than sorry i suppose

            • In threw the Tamiya in the trash and ordered Alclad II Klear Kote Matte. Didn’t had any trouble with it so far, but only used it ones on a model plane a few weeks back. But keep in mind, this is an enamel based clear, regardless of what the brand name implies.
There are some people that state that the Tamiya matte (X-21 if I recall correctly) is…[Read more]

            • well from what i read it said on pledge future it is acrylic so dik but about the flat coat is that flat coat the same one u used on ur hi nu also and did u just lightly spray it or how so

    • mind if I share what I did with my MG Nu Gundam, after painting, I used flat coat first for paint protection. And thats the only thing that I flat coat it. Then panel lining then seal with clear coat (not gloss coat), then decals(water) seal with clear coat then all the way clear coat and it still look flat and I’m satisfied. Also, don’t paint…[Read more]

@sid what would you suggest for me to do to make my Sinanju even better looking? Also what are your thoughts /suggestons on what I should build next and which model grade should I work on?

Hi @ryan what else can you use as a substitute for a mr. hobby topcoat like testors or something I can get in South Africa

    • Lol, I’m sorry I have no idea about what is available in SA at the moment, even though I was home for a couple weeks a few months ago. You could try the Q/A group, they might know.

  • So, I’m looking to buy an airbrush ‘kit’, I guess is what its called… I don’t know anything about them, so if you could link any recommendations for kits or supplies, like paints or anything else I might need to know about, hell, even whole websites where I can buy these things, I would very much appreciate the help. Please and Thank You.

    • There is a rather recent post on this in this section. It was by FierceSmurf.
It may contain all the info you need. And there are lots and lots of tutorials on YouTube on how to use and clean an airbrush.
But make sure you set goals for what it is you want from your airbrush. This will give you a rough estimation of what kind of airbrush you’re…[Read more]

RG wing is nice. And I’m a big deathscythe fan but I think I’m most interested to see a nataku RG. Been waiting for another version of that

  • Hey guys, I was thinking of building a custom Sinanju, but I need a left handed trigger finger that would match that of the 1/144 HGUC Sinanju’s right one. Anyone have recommendations on what I should look at?

sup guys! so i bought the theatrical release edition of the banshee & unicorn gundam, is there anything i could do to make it look more shiny/glossy? out of the box they look dull and flat.
    • think the standard reply would be use a really high gloss clear coat or future floor polish, but since these kits are clear I don’t really think you should do that so I really don’t think there is anything that you’d really want to do to them. clear kits are kinda tricky like that.

    • well i guess if u want u could give up the clear psycho frame and made a silver base over clear color to produce more shinniess but overall the idea of using gloss clear is not good ull fog up the clear color so dont do that

    • I’ve heard of some people dipping canopies of model planes in Future Floor Polish. But if this gives this the result you are looking for…..?
There is an other option, you could try finding some normal pearl powder. I say normal, because most come with a color shading. This means that some pearl powder come with a pigment which gives a green,…[Read more]

I recently bought a Gundam LED kit and a couple of MG Kits (Strike Rouge and an older version of the Freedom). These are my first MG kits. I thought they would have a space for the LEDS, but they don’t appear to. Does anyone know what MG kits can take the LEDs?

    • The MG Nu Ver.Ka., the MG Hi-Nu Ver.Ka., the R/E100 Nightingale, the MG Sazabi Ver.Ka., the MG Gundam RX 78-2 ver. 3.0, the MG Geara Doga, the MG Jesta, the MG 00 Raiser, the MG 00 Seven Sword, the MG 00 Qan(T), the MG Gundam Exia Ignition Mode, the MG Gundam Exia (and the Trans Am Mode), the MG GN-X, the MG RX 75 Guntank. and the MG RMS-108…[Read more]

Heya guys , I just got an airbrush ,painted parts of my kit in flat black ,but it gets damaged too easy, how can I protect the coat ? Will letting the paint dry for 2-3 weeks help in that ? Tnx for the help

    • Forgot to mention that the parts are from the inner frame , some have a base coat others don`t

    • use a top coat over it i had the problem the first time so just get future pledge top coat that stuff is the greatest protection over ur kits

    • If you want to have the color stay matte/flat, you definitely shouldn’t use “Future Pledge” as this gives the paint a gloss coat. In other words, the flat black paint will turn into a gloss black.
If you used a enamel paint, let it cure for 3 to 4 days. Enamels take long to cure, but are very scratch resistant.
Lacquer paints are tough too and…[Read more]

    Sooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got the payment request for the PG Unicorn and LED set! Payed right away and got it in my Private Warehouse a minute later!
Had it send out A.S.A.P. All bills payed, now waiting for my early Christmas present to come in. Thanks to the great folks at HLJ for the fast replies and early “In Stock”…[Read more]

    • Mines has been shipped so it says several hours ago. May I ask, are you in the US? If so, have you ordered from HLJ before? FedEx shipping says 2 to 5 days, I’m curious ad to how accurate that is. Congrats though! Can’t wait to find a beast being delivered to my home!

      • Congrats to you too! I hope you’ll enjoy it. Unfortunately I don’t live in the US, but in the Netherlands, so can’t say how accurate the shipping estimations are for you. However, this is my 5th order from HLJ, and for me the estimations are rather accurate. Not in two days, but mostly in 4 days. But you’ll get a tracking code via your mail, it…[Read more]

        • Thanks! Tracking didn’t show anything earlier but I just checked and I’m due for delivery as of Wednesday! I’m pretty excited, HLJ works fast!

Next, I’m hoping to get some extra cash and find myself the FA add-on before it’s too late.

          • You’re welcome! Yeah, HLJ does a great job!!! Hope you get the money for the FA soon, guessing it’ll be sold out soon. Wish you all the luck with it. And of course, hope you’ll enjoy your build.

    • I just set mine up to ship, though I shipped the Unicorn and LEDs separately to try avoid NZ customs. The minimum price for customs fees to incur varies between NZD $300 and $400 so often it’s hard to know if anything will make it through…

      • I hope it works! Good luck!

        • it must be nice you two to have money for Gunpla as I ended up having to cancel my order because I had zero money to even pay for my PG Unicorn which really doesn’t amuse me at all

          • I’m very sorry to hear that. I hope things turn out for the better. It wasn’t my intention to offend you or anyone else. Hope you don’t hold a grudge against us. And if it makes you feel better, I worked my #ss off to get the extra money……. I sincerely hope you’ll be able to order one from the next batch and have a nice holiday despite your setback

    • The package has arrived in customs… Maybe here tomorrow 🙂

is it a bad idea to spray gloss coat and flat coats in 32 degree weather lol thinking bout doin it but i dont wanna have it frost u no like after painting

    • I take it that is Fahrenheit…? We don’t all live in the US…. As long as the humidity isn’t above 70 percent you should be fine. Just takes longer to dry and cure

    • That’s actually not a good idea, as that’s freezing. I suggest finding an indoor area that you can keep above 40 degrees. under 40 degrees, and the paint can start to crystalize, and fracture, and even freeze. If you are going to do it, I suggest you keep the cans indoors, go out, spray the spray the part, and the immediately take the part inside…[Read more]

      • That’s what I figured, that he is only going to paint it outside. Normally a lacquer starts to dry and cure as it is sprayed.
And any paint will start to shift when it is kept in a freezing condition. This is stated on the cans and bottles in most cases.

        • well i have an airbrush so i figured wait i have a hi nu i just got for christmas and i have a week and a half break so y not paint it up and make it look damm ass nice u no wht im saying anyways if u live in the us do u no where i can get that pldege future stuff cant find it in shoprite didnt check walmart though i set up my airbrush in my room…[Read more]

          • I can get it here, even in the Netherlands in the bigger grocery shop. And as Walmart is a really big one, my guess is, you can get it there.
If not, you could always try online. You might even find it cheaper there.
As for spraying with the window open, as long as you have the heater on and the temperature doesn’t drop below freezing, you will…[Read more]

I’d like to ask whether the Kotobukiya M.S.G parts fits the HG or the MG? thx

    • Normally they are designed for 1/144 kits. For the hangars and trucks, you could get away by using it for a small MG, like the Wing kits, but even then, they will be on the large side.
As for the hands from M.S.G. line, it is designated on the package they are to be used with 1/114 models.
I hope this answers your question

    • Just took another look at the M.S.G. parts, there are some other parts like “verniers” and such, these can be added to a kit of your hearts content of course….

Hey Syd. After building the Pg Unicorn, which PG kit is the best kit to build.

    • If I may give you my suggestion, I’d say the PG Astray Red Frame. Even the biceps and triceps move when you bend the arm!!! Not to mention that blade….
