Gunpla TV – MGEX Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka Review

It’s time to go Extreme! In this video we take a look at the first kit that is launching a whole new line of kits from Bandai, the Master Grade Extreme (MGEX) line!

And the first unit in this line is none other than the Unicorn Gundam! What makes this kit so extreme, you may ask? For one, this Unicorn ditches the traditional pre-colored green/red Psychoframe parts, replacing them with clear parts and using an internal LED system to change colors! A fancy display stand as well as a slew of weapons round are also included. You’ll just have to watch to find out more!

But first, if you want to check out the box contents in detail, head over to our MGEX Unicorn Unboxing and watch that first!

In this episode:

If any kits in this post are backordered when you read this, don’t worry — Bandai is great about restocking periodically. But, you’ll want to get your order in to secure a spot in line for the next restock!

Her favorite lines are Hasegawa's Mechatro WeGo line, Meng's World War Toons Pinky line, and weird miscellany like Platz's bonsai tree kits. In general, if it's a detailed miniature that's too small to be useful for anything other than taking up space, she'll probably love it.

  1. I just can’t tell if it’s worth the limited and fragile articulation for that light up gimmick…

  2. I always say I don’t care about lighting effects in my action figures. But man, THAT IS COOL.

  5. It’s finally here! The most extreeeeeeme Gundam review ever, haha! Really awesome looking kit, as one would expect with that hefty price tag, you do get what you pay for! I like how you can switch between the red and green lighting modes. Wish we could’ve gotten a USB charging port instead of the battery box, but I guess that might have added to the cost of the kit. Overall, a really nice package and a great first kit in the MG Extreeeeme series!! 😀

  7. That’s cool that this MG is the only way you can get a ‘Deactive’ version.
The LED gimmick is nice, but what are the odds that Bandai would sell a version without the LED and comes with red and green psychoframe parts? 🤔

I also presume that after the MGEX RX-0 Unicorn Gundam “Ver.Ka”, we’re probably getting a release for the variants including:
RX-0 Full Armor Unicorn Gundam (Red/Green)
    RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility
RX-0 Unicorn Gundam [Luminous Crystal Body]
RX-0 Unicorn Gundam (Bande Dessinee Ver.)
    RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee
RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn
RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn (Final Battle Ver)
RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex (NT Ver)
    …etc.

For how much you pay for this MGEX, Bandai should’ve given a gold coated v-fin on the inside.Although, I suppose it’s easy enough to paint it so it doesn’t matter that much.

  8. I’m surprised Bandai still requires you to sticker the V-fin. Why not a separate gold part? They did it for RG Sinanju. Didn’t think a top-line Unicorn would appreciate that.

  9. Can’t wait for all of those P-Bandai variations, all with severely inflated prices and more expensive than Perfect Grades.

  10. This kit is pretty impressive – thanks for the in depth review! I’ll probably pick it up in a couple of months 🙂

  11. Come on HLJ, please give the Unicorn some respect and assemble his face correctly in Destroy Mode! I can’t un-see it now.
