While i love gundams i feel like branching out a little. Been growing up with Macross and i’ve just finished watching Macross Frontier. Saw on HLJ the kits vf-27 beta lucifer and ozmas custom vf-25 with super parts (1/72) and i wonder which one would you guys prefer? I can’t decide hehe 🙂
Hi, welcome to the group!
you wont be dissapointed, macross kits are awesome and very diferent from gundams (wich are awesome too)
My very first kit, the one that got me into this awesome hobby was the VF-27 lucifer, I didn´t liked the pink accents on it so I panted it flat black and black metal (gun metal) and even if it was my very first kit I…[Read more]
thanks! well in the end i went for the vf-25 with super pack! waiting for it to arrive and i can’t wait to start building it! 🙂 i also got the vf-0 battroid mode 🙂
Hi everybody. I want to build my first Macross kit but i cant find much help on the description of the models. Do they come by different grades like gundam kits? Im looking at hasegawa kits instead of bandai since i want to have a dedicated non transformable jet for display. Do they all need paint? Would the nothung II from macross the ride be a…[Read more]
Hi Mauricokito, welcome to the group!
well I guess it all depends on what are you looking for and the Valkire that you like, all the hasegawa kits require some level of paint, but painting all the kit will boost the kit alot, mainly because you need to sand where the cement melts the plastic, but I guess you can get away with it if you sand…[Read more]
Thank you so much for this info Angelizer! Yeah, im looking into a messiah. Can you tell me a little bit more about these series? I was also looking into Luca’s messiah, the one with the dish in top. Sad to know these are complex builds. I thought they werent since i saw the plastic is molded in color but i’d be up for the challenge though. Could…[Read more]
Hi Mauricokito !
Good question on the VF-25
you’ve got 2 schools for this mecha :
– Hasegawa’s new kit :
need painting on every surface, the kit must be glued up so, as Angelizer said, you must sand where the plastics melt so the paint is absolutely needed.
– Bandai’s variable kit :
just need NO GLUE (snap kit) and a few painting work…[Read more]
the plastic cement is a compund made to fuse two pieces of plastic together, very handy even on snap fit models, o consider cement as on of the basic tools http://gunplahobbies.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/dsc_00341.jpg the thing is because cement malts the plastic a little to make a seamless fuse between the two parts you need to take away the…[Read more]
oh and forgot to mention, I really think you should try a hasegawa model, even if you have to paint it all, pick the one you like the most, once you finished your first, you’ll see how great they look, you’ll learn alot and by the end of the build you will be a better modler. that’s what happened to me (I think) 😛
I think for a good start you better off with a snap fit kit..I’ve been building a lot of gunpla and I’ve a hard time doing the hasegawa kit..it is really not for a beginner as you’re dealing with paint, glue and big waterslide..I’ve build the VF-11B Nothung II and I’ve been enjoying it apart of the cementing parts and the waterslide(prepare Mark…[Read more]
Oh wow! Gotta love this site with all the support I’m getting. Thank you all very much for the replies and awesome jobs on those builds from you guys. I’m definately getting encouraged to go with Hasegawa. I’m not an advance modeler but I’m no beginner either. I built some fighter jets from Revell a long time ago which I glued together and painted…[Read more]
You’re welcome Mauricokito !
If you had made some model kits (well, Revell ain’t so bad, though…), you should do a good job with hasegawa’s model kits.
I have assembled a FW-190D on 1/72 few hours ago, no problem at all.
As with Tamiya’s kits, modeling is pure entertainement !
For the paints, it depends on the stuff you will find in your…[Read more]
I allways use tamiya’s cemet I have both the normal cement, perfect for samall to medium parts and the extra thin cement , you can use that in case you hace a gap between parts after u used the normal cenet and big parts that need to be glued,, and abut the paints, I usually work with acrilics as a base and enamels for detailing, no specific…[Read more]
yes, despite I don’t come here everyday, you can also pass through my website and ask me somequestions on the “contact” page…
I’m working on an english version of my site, too
you’ve got the paint references (in mr hobby acrylics) on the instructions.
if you havn’t any mr hobby in stock or in shops near you, you can find the matching colors on some sites like IPMS STOCKHOLM, juste searching “tamiya colors humbrol gunze” for example
I have to say this kit is amazing, it looks wicked and it’s big, but I messed up at the end of the build, I forgot to gloss coat, and as a result de decals have alot of…
thanks, but I’ll redo this one, the silvering its just too much, I think I´ll “experiment a little with this kit, some new weathering teqniques that can be applyed over the flat coat, or maybe even practice some battle damage…
to avoid silvering, I put the decals with some Klir (future ?) and then, pass either setting solution or other coat on it
If I have silvering, i try to make tiny incisions with a new X-acto sword, and fill “the gap” with clear coat to get it in, and the, re-do the clear on the model
This week-end I’ve done another Macross Custom, this time from Macross Frontier – and NOT a variable fighter !
As I got way too much model kits and proders boxes…
Wow, Im not into tanks, they all look very similar in my taste, but this one in my opinion looks amazing, like a tank should look like, amazing weathering and the camo its gorgeos the tools on the side the mud on the back and the tires, this one it’s just perfect, I have to say, this is the best work Ihave seen on this group and this site.
where did you get your hands on this one and the salan Scout? I have been trying to get some “rare” parts and models like a fold booster and missiles for the YF-19, or the ghost for the VF- on 1/72 scale, do you know a site where I can find them?
Wow
you can find the Salan scout in both scales (2500 and 5000) on Starship Modeler’s webshop.
The Ghost booster in 1/72, is only available with the VF-0A/S with Ghost Booster model kit (rare, try on ebay as it has not been reissued if I don’t mistake).
The Fold Booster and Missiles for the YF19, I guess it’s resin-made, another expensive…[Read more]
I will ask some friends if they have it in stock and tell you if they can sell one 😉
The best should be to wait for another reissue by Hasegawa, I think it should come in 2015 for the anniversary of Macross Zero…
Hasegawa’s reedit the VF0 “slick versions” and reactive armor, plus slick version of SV51… seen on HLJ yesterday ^^
maybe the boosted versions will arrive next ?
I really hope so, bit I doont keep my hopes to high, because of what they did for the aniversary of macross pluss, they released a YF-19 eggplane with fold booster…. who the hell decide to do that????
If you know someone who has any of those models at a reasonable price, please let me know ill be forever thankfull
amazing work! that green looks fantastic, Im not shure if the weathering doesn’t show on the photos but i think it could be heavier, dont you think?
that stand is gorgeos.
I made very little weathering, as I wanted to get it as close as the original TV Series appearance, just a little wash in black to reveal the panel lines, and a second wash exclusively on the “turrets” to shw more of it.
The poor ambiant light and the non-flashed pictures doesn’t reveal all the deepness of the paintjob, in…[Read more]
It was mostly a fun build, and at the end, I just built towards the transform mode I wanted to display in. The end result looks pretty good so I’m happy.
The recipe for the metallic blue is: Tamiya Gunmetal, Createx transparent blue, Tamiya clear blue.
The Tamiya gunmetal I used wasn’t very well mixed and was coming out quite bright, so you might want to go with a aluminum or similar to achieve the bright blue effect. You can see what better mixed gunmetal looks like on the sides of the legs where…[Read more]
thanks I actualy use gun metal alot, but I never tought of applying clear coats over it, I usually do silver chrome and clear colours over it, (i think it’s called candy finish) but that gives the illusion of tinted glass instead of a metallic colour. ill try your technique on the future, thanks for the tip!
Yes, it’s very much like a candy coat, but with darker results with less bling. I also do the clear Tamiya colours over the Createx pearl colours which also produces a great result. You can see that on the red pieces on this kit.
I made a major mistake on the canopy I applyed too much superglue to the front. and i didnt relize this until I removed the masking tape from the canopy wich is basiclly the past thig I allways do.
more at: http://evilmodelkits.blogspot.mx/2014/05/vf-11b-thunderbolt.html
thanks man, I don’t like the orange accents, so I decided to change them for a blue/gray color you see there, I did a major mistake on the canopy, the fit was poor, and the canopy didnt stayed therre with the clear glue I ususualy use, so I applyed super glue, too much of it, and it leaked beneath the canopy.. I was tenpted to re do the model,…[Read more]
yes !
ordered some for me too, when I received this one.
I had to refit it because of the salan’s weight, but this stand is versatile and I love such an idea !
Work from past week, the beginning of the painting preparation for a 1/2500 Zentradi Salan Scout Class warship.
The model is a 2-part Resin kit, molded with great details, by…
no ghost for this kit if I read the description made on Hasegawa’s website… maybe later with armament box set ?
I wish !
However, the bandai’s set of 3 ghosts with the rvf25 is still good, and I have 2 ghosts unemployed on my custom list ^^
yes, I have the bandai kit on my collection, (I posted a few pics on the group a few months ago) It is a great kit, but hasegawa allways ads some little details that look awesome!
and the overall is better when in fighter, despite the two kits have very similar proportions.
the detail is better essentially on the cockpit, the other material is good on both – and the bandai’s transforming
I made a comparo for my forum at the issue of the first 25 by hasegawa
I totally agree with you, hasegawa’s details are amazing all over the kit, also the waterslides are far superior on hasegawa’s kits, but the big selling point for bandai kit’s is the transformation, bandai and hasegawa are both great, it all depends on what do you want. I actually can’t wait for a VF-29 kit, I think bandai is not interested in…[Read more]
