An update on my Kampfer Amazing build. I just clear coated a few parts, including the head. It’s already dry to the touch and it’s looking pretty good. I’m very tempted to put together the head. I’m anxious to show it off to you guys.

My new cannons also came in today. And just as I feared, the peg that needs to go into the backpack is to small.…[Read more]

    • Show off the head. You know you want to. I’ll show off the head on mine too so you won’t feel lonely, haha.

For the cannons, I wonder if you can just slice the whole peg sections off from the KA’s and cement them to whatever mounts you’ll use.

      • You know you want too come on!
Hopefully the fix on the cannons will be as easy as what Dlinker suggested.

Either way I’m looking forward to these pictures the wait is killing me lol

    • you could try cutting sections off the runners and then sanding/gluing them to the end of the peg to try and extend them and show off that head! haha

    • What I have decided to do, is instead of using the peg the cannons came with. I’m going to glue in a piece of runner into the slot where the peg is supposed to go. Then fill it in with putty, sand it smooth, and paint it. I figure that should be a lot more secure than gluing an extension onto an existing peg. I’ll just make one for the right side,…[Read more]

    KA Update:

Been busy handpainting the darn thing and I still have a lot left to do. Here’s an arm, which is pretty much done in terms of paint. First time applying metallics by dry-brushing only and I’m loving it. The round part and the sides of the elbow are Natural Steel, bicep is Chainmail Silver. Greens are two-tone, but the pic may not show it.

    • Are the greens handpainted, too? If so, how’d you do that?

      • Yep, greens and purple are handpainted. Priming the parts played a huge role in making it easy to lay down a consistent coat. After that, it’s just thinning the paints a little bit more than 1:1 using distilled water and 90% ISO alcohol (3 parts water, 1 part alcohol).

Once it’s thinned, I brushed on a wet layer and made sure there wasn’t any…[Read more]

        • That end result looks great. Was the primer handbrushed as well, or just the usual spray?

          • Thanks, man 🙂

I’m happy with the results, considering I was fearing it will take me days and lots of frustration to get a good finish. The primer I airbrushed on a rare warm-ish day. Handpainting the stuff is something I never got the hand of.

        • I can sort of tell the shade difference between the greens, in guessing you did not want too much of difference?

Also that’s awesome you got such a smooth finish with the hand painting,I’m guessing you used Vallejo? Once again glad you recommended those they hand paint so well

          • Yeah, I wanted a warmer contrast between them similar to how the Lugnut toy’s greens are. Some weathering later on should help enhance it just a bit.

And yeah, man, Vallejo all the way with this. I thought they were amazing before, but this just blows those previous experiences out of the water, haha. Glad to see you enjoy using them too.…[Read more]

            • Thats a beautiful smooth finish

              • What a wonderful color scheme. Bright greens are usually overlooked in Gunpla. And what a smooth finish. If you told me it was sprayed, I would believe you.

                • Thanks for the kind words, guys. Seeing the paint job as it happens makes all the hard work worth it. Sadly, it’s not all perfect. The other forearm has an obvious boo-boo and instead of stripping and starting over, I’m going to try make it look like weathering/damage.

    • You amaze me with your hand painting skills man. That is some impressive work. And the metallics are looking great.

      • Many thanks, good sir. Just doing as much as I can with what I got. It can be frustrating and stressful, but it’s very rewarding. Which reminds me: can’t wait to see what detail work you’ll put your KA. The pretty details on your recent MG Kampfer are still fresh in my head.

    • What brand of paint are you using for the metallics?

      • Vallejo Model Color and Vallejo Game Color. Natural Steel and Chainmail Silver, respectively. I find dry-brushing them to yield a slightly better finish normal wet brushing.

        • yeah I’ve had to dry brush the metallics myself. They don’t go on very well wet!

          • Which is a shame. I still have yet to find an acrylic metallic that can be wet brushed to a good finish. Maybe Citadel stuff is the only option, haha. All of the vids show them looking really good even with wet brushing.

    • wow, blowing my mind man! i am beyond excited to see how your KA turns out

      • You and me both, man. I think the main suit should be done by the weekend, leaving only the weapons left. Since it’s getting slightly warmer, I might just airbrush the basecoat on the weapon binders. Way too big to handpaint with my size 4 brush, haha.

    • Now THAT is some slick hand painting. I always love drybrushing. It’s a cathartic experience for me to bring out the details ever so slightly 😀

      • Thanks, good sir. I think handpainting this thing will be the surprise of the year for me in terms of finished kits. I find dry-brushing to be pretty fulfilling so far, which is strange because it can actually take more work and more time. Mysteries of the hobby, haha.

So, I think I might be over-extending myself here just a TINY bit:

    – Working on the KA build
    – Joined a Build Fighter Cosplay group for MegaCon 2014. Have to put together a Julio Renato costume and build/paint a K9 before March 21st
    – Have to build/paint a Star Build Strike for a friend in the same groupwho’s going as Sei
    – Stupidly agreed to…[Read more]

    • Damn man. You’ve taken on a lot of stuff. The fact that you haven’t already snapped, means you have made it farther than I would. I would have already of had a mental break down.

    • I’m betting on you snapping while you’re working on the Renato costume or the K9. Events with deadlines are usually pretty stressful, haha.

On a serious note, that’s a ton of work you’re burdening yourself with. If you manage to pull through for each one, I’m not surprised if you’re going to take time off from anything related to Gundam or model kits.

    • the KA can be put on the back burner since the group deadline was just for the sake of having a deadline. same goes for the Ecto-1 kit, if shes not into you put it on the back burner LOL! i’ve never done a cosplay or any costume creation before so my bet is for snapping point sometime between the k9 and star build strike haha.

      • Agreed with B6. If she’s not a close friend, just some girl who isn’t into you, fuuuuuck that, make that your last priority.

        • Why even make it a priority at all?

I say screw that, you got so much to do and they likely won’t appreciate the work your gonna be putting in so why bother

          • Lol, you guys are cold… But you’re right XD

I’m definitely slowing down on the KA to make sure the Build Fighter kits are ready. As for the Ecto-1, that may very well be the one I go crazy with. You build Japanese kits for so long, you forget how meticulous they can be in comparison to other companies. I have to scratch-build some parts to…[Read more]

update on my KA. what do you guys think of this idea? of course i’d have to secure the weapons better.

    • Very interesting idea. Kinda reminds me of the Double Bullet. What if you modified the shoulder armor to support the guns? Like remove the spikes and use that area as your mounting point?

      • when i tried to attach them to the shoulder armor, the shoulder armor just floped towards the outside. so right now this is all i got at the moment for mounting options. i always try to prototype ideas without actually cutting since, once i do that theres no real way to reverse it if i mess it up haha

    • Love the idea! Very Thunderbolt/Armored Core-ish. My one qualm with this approach is the way the shoulder looks without the shoulder plating. You may want to bring that element back in to better cover the awkwardness of the shoulder’s design. If you’ve got any other parts from that Jagd Doga(s?) you frankenstein’d to do this, I’d use those.

      • the guns came off the Full armor gundam kit, sold unicorn to my buddy and i kept all the weapons and the base jaber. i was thinking of maybe making a cloak or pla-plate to cover up the shoulders a little.

    • That’s a unique idea and I never thought about using the shoulder mounts like that. I think it looks good, but some curved plates covering the front and back area of the shoulders might make it look better.

      • I love the way those huge gatlings look on the Ka. But as pretty much everyone else has said cover is a good idea. Really like the idea of the cape too.

i have a strange and slightly personal question to ask you guys. have any of you ever had to (or know someone who had to) do the heat treatment for bedbugs and if so how did you(they) handle your(their) model kits, did you remove them or were they safe? at the end of 2012 my father inadvertently brought some friends home..and they started an…[Read more]

    • correction, its 122º F not 120º

    • Strangely enough, my wife mentioned this the other day if one of our kids ever brought those wretched things into the house. My 1st thought, was of the Gunpla. I’d say take them out. Not sure if paint, glue, cement, or even the stickers can handle that kind of temperature.

      • thats what i was thinking as well. i guess if i do the heat treatment i’ll have to get a big box with some bubble wrap and stuff them all in a box neatly. this whole ordeal is part of the reason i haven’t snapped sazabi together yet.

AHHHHHHH, GM Sniper K9 is in stock now! Sooooo many deadlines >__<

    • I’m still waiting on ggifinite to ship my kampfer, I’m starting to get a little ticked. They where supposed to start shopping them Friday,I’ve yet to get a shipping notice.+ the only shipping option was 2-3 day priority so I’m out 15$ on shipping. Going to call tommorow and see what’s up if I don’t get a tracking number by 5:00 today this is bs IMO

      • I’ve never actually dealt with GGInfinite, but I know your pain. My MG Astray Noir has been en route to me since the end of last month, and despite having a tracking number, I have no shipping status updates on the tracking info. If I don’t see a progress report by the end of the week, I’m going to write to the seller

      • I’ve heard plenty a bad experience regarding GGInfinite though I personally haven’t ordered from them.

Though ModelGrade has been phenomenal and I’ve ordered twice from them but both over $150 for the Free Shipping. Customer Service is A+, I had to do a couple of item switches and was short a couple dollars but the owner was very helpful and…[Read more]

        • I have two of those catalogs lol. I love gundam planet, every issue I’ve had has been corrected immediately. I”m pretty much just going to order from them. I’m not too impressed with ggifinite right now.

      • I’ve bought multiple high-price items from GGInfinite and they always pulled through, no damaged goods or BS with shipping. However, they love to not include the tracking number on the shipping confirmation so I always have to hunt it down myself.

    • I’ve ordered from GGinfinite before and hadn’t had a problem. They did take their sweet time shipping out my Stein when I had it pre-ordered. But that was about it.

      • Last summer, GGI’s mail system went down which caused all sorts of problems, other than that they’ve usually been pretty good. HLJ and Gundam Planet are still the best though.

        • We’ll I just got off the phone with them and I’m actually impressed, nice guy on the phone, the preorders came in late Friday and he said that there working on getting them all out. Said there were three different models they had to deal with but my order should be shipped late today or early tomorrow. Lot of hateful reviews out there about them…[Read more]

anyone see the latest GBF episode? i liked the fight but, i feel like the meijin/renato bros fight was more intense.

    • Agreed. The whole thing was just living in the shadow of last week. I was really expecting an intense fight, but once all the mystery to Nils’ moves was gone, it all just fell short of my expectations

      • exactly!

        • SPOILERS:

I also felt the momentum was completely derailed with the battle stoppage and emergency repairs. You really expect me to believe that after all the time you’ve shown doing rebuilds, that they have emergency backup limbs on hand???

          • i know this show is geared more towards a younger audience but, c’mon!
they still had legs they could’ve used to fight! haha

            • Char kicks till the end! But yeah that really killed the already dull moment for me. I find it kind of shameful that gave us a glorious fight last week followed by essentially shining fist vs shining palm for a whole match

              • I think the episode overall would’ve been a lot better if Sei had punched Nils at the meeting. It would’ve gone a long way to building up the dramatic tension a bit more.

                • Yes. The battle was shorter than the Bloodhound fight, less intense, and it didn’t flow as well in my opinion. The break for repairs messed up the mood for the battle.

    • Just saw the episode. Went too fast and wasn’t as exciting as the previous episode. I did like how they made the 60-sec parts replacement session seem so tense. Hokey, but funny. Really glad to see Nils finally realizing his particle magic ain’t everything. Also, Sumeragi and Kati’s cameos in the bar was a nice touch.

      The next episode looks…[Read more]

    • How fitting: the cheap Sengoku Astray was destroyed in a less than stellar episode. Also SBS still had vulcans and both units had legs, so there was no need to stop the match other than to give Sengoku Astray a chance. As for next week, as much as I love Fellini and his Fenice, I think it’s obvious he will lose to the Qubeley. Fenice and SBS have…[Read more]

    • I saw the episode last night. I agree that the battle wasn’t as stellar as the K.A. vs K9 battle. I also didn’t like how the whole fight basically came down to a fist vs open palm technique. Rather cliche if you ask me. Just glad to finally see the Sengoku go down.

As for next weeks episode. I agree with Zeta-G. The Qubeley will definitely win.…[Read more]

while i wait for new ideas to fill my head for the KA, i decided to use my new tamiya weathering pigments to do some more work on the Terminator-esk Bearguy aKa project Kodiak. has anyone else gotten into the titanfall beta? figured i’d ask since we’re all fans of robots.

    • I want to play get Titan fall so bad, but I don’t have (refuse too) an xbox one or a PC powerful enough to play it,

Good job on the weathering how hard is that stuff to use?

      • Nice use of the weathering kit there. Looks like the real deal.

Haven’t played PC games in a long time so I’ll probably miss out on that beta.

        • thanks man! still have tons left to do.

the beta was fun, i played it until i reached rank 14 (thats as far as they let you go). can’t wait for it to come out next month.

      • its easy to use, the key is to not over do it and even if you do, you can wipe it off and start over.

    • Not a huge shooter fan and the XBone makes it a nonstarter for me. The beargguy looks good though.

    • Got to play the beta on my friend’s XBone (good to see I’m not the only one calling it that), and I’m completely sold on adding it to my PC library. The moment where I ripped a Titan pilot clean out of his cockpit and threw him through a building = PURE BLISS

I patiently await the inevitable anime skin mods for this game on PC, lol

      • i did that too! it feels so good to rip the pilot out! i have the beta for the xbone as well but, i think i’ll have to get it for both since my friends are split between console and PC… although the feel of the game makes me feel it might be more at home on a PC. i didn’t even think of the mod possibility… oh a titan that looks like a gundam…[Read more]

What you all recommend to glue a hard mounting point? I believe that I’ll have to modify the Kampfer Amazing’s binder brackets to fit the new cannons. So what would you all recommend? I don’t think the cement will hold under the stress. I’m thinking super glue.
