MAFEX Evangelion Unit-01 – Available from HobbyLink Japan

For those that have been following the Rebuild of Evangelion movies and wanted decent figures of the various Evas, then Medicom has a solid range of MAFEX toys that cover this quite nicely. Starting with the iconic Eva-01, these MAFEX figures are worth a look, if a little fragile.
The Rebuild of Evangelion movies are effectively a reboot and retelling of the story from the original Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series and follow-on movies.
That means events happen differently and involve some new characters as well. The classic design of Eva-01 has also had a makeover, which is mostly down to a recoloring more than anything else.
Obviously, there have been innumerable releases of the new movie Eva-01 in model kit and toy form. However, what makes the MAFEX range a bit different is how they don’t try to stylize this design too much.
This particular version of Eva-01 was also featured in Super Robot Wars V, which has recently been given a release on the Switch and on PC (via Steam).
Anyway, the result is a solid figure that brings Eva-01 to life in a faithful way, but it is a little on the fragile side.
