The first two Sakura Wars kits are here: the HG Koubu Kai (Sakura) and HG Koubu Kai (Ichiro)! Aside from the colors, these kits are virtually the same, so we’re going to take a look at Sakura’s Koubu Kai first — with a gallery of photos of Ichiro’s at the end.
The Box
First, a completed front a back view of the kit.
And some lovely action poses! We get a preview of some of the gimmicks we can expect, including an opening cockpit and a figure of Sakura to put inside!
The other side of the box has a profile for Sakura and for the mech itself, much in Bandai Gunpla style.
The Runners
A: Grey, red, silver, gold
The silver and gold pieces aren’t shiny, per se, but have something of a pearly finish to them.
B1: Grey
B2: Grey
C1: Pink
The actual color of the runners is more vibrant than the photo shows — it’s a lovely cherry blossom color!
These runners also have a sort of pearly finish.
C2: Pink x2
D1: Here’s Sakura! She comes in three parts and is completely unpainted, so you’ll need to detail her yourself. Fortunately, Bandai lends a bit of a hand, as you’ll see soon!
Here we are at the end — polycaps, a plastic pipe, a fabric rope, foil stickers, dome stickers, and eye decals! If nothing else, you should be able to get Sakura’s eyes spot on when you detail the figure.
Ichiro’s Koubu Kai is very similar, with pearly white parts where Sakura’s mech has pink ones. Here are the photos from his kit.
Of note here: Ichiro’s figure is molded in a single piece. He also comes with eye decals.

Even knowing absolutely nothing about this series, I have to say these are pretty damn cool. They feel like if a Mechatro WeGo had a steampunk grandpa robot.
Zeroconvoy
My real concern is going to be painting her.
Helluva
Hello, I do know nothing about this series but the kit looks cool to make some custom samurai steampunk mecha.. could be cool.
Tesla Effect
Such a cute pink Zaku-like mecha.
