Following the unboxing, here is the review for the figma Dobkeratops from the R-Type series of games. Put simply, this is entirely spot on and definitely worth picking up.

Part of the extended Shooting Game Historica series, Good Smile Company and Freeing have done a great job here. To date, bar some obscure garage kits, the Dobkeratops has never really been given its time in the sun as a toy or figure. This figma changes all that does an incredible job with it.

While this is technically a figma, it’s better to think of it as a poseable statue. The head and jaw move, as does the tail but that’s about it.

You also get a selection of wires and eyes to wrap around the main body of Dobkeratops, as well as a see-through miniature of the classic R-9A Arrowhead fighter.

The figma comes with a stand and various other metal parts to allow you to display it upright.

All of this may sound a bit straightforward but where this figma truly excels is in its sculpt and detailing.

The sculpt itself has managed to take the original 2D game art and entirely nail a 3D representation of it. On top of that, the detailing, especially of the inner mechanics, is surprisingly fine and very accurate throughout.

Overall, this is by far the best rendition of the Dobkeratops boss from the first R-Type and comes very much recommended to all shmup game fans.

If you are at all curious about the R-Type games, feel free to check out the ports of the first two games as part of R-Type Dimensions EX.
