It’s here: the 40th anniversary Gunpla itself: the HG Gundam G40 Industrial Design Ver. We first saw this kit revealed at the All Japan Model & Hobby Show earlier this year. It’s designed by Ken Okuyama, and its standout feature is that it’s an HG kit that doesn’t use any polycaps.
The cover is a solid matte black with semi-reflective silver print for the kit name — a look that really makes an impression!
The Box
There’s only one panel dedicated to information about the kit. On one side it shows the Gundam in a dynamic pose with a bit of background on the model.
On the other half, we see the front and back of the completed kit and a preview of some of the concept art from the special booklet inside.
Speaking of special booklets: once you open the box, you’re greeted with a cardboard parts tray that can be pulled out to reveal the 28-page booklet beneath. This keeps it from getting and dents or scratches from the runners.
The Runners
A: Yellow, dark grey, blue, red
B1: This looks white, but it’s actually a very pale green. There are no white or offwhite runners in this kit.
(Pardon the crooked photo!)
B2: Grey-green
C: Pale green x2
The C runners are the parts that are going to build out the kit’s articulation in place of polycaps. Here’s part of the arm construction to demonstrate — and as you can see, we still have balljoints in the kit.
The typical beam effect parts in clear pink plastic and a few foil stickers to finish it off.
We don’t anticipate having extra stock left of this kit, but you can check it out on our website, too, if you’re interested!:

PetitGguy Type 全不全
Well crumbs. Should have got in on this sooner. Still, if nothing else I’m hoping to see some of the techniques used here moving into the rest of the HG line.
Tesla Effect
The overall parts look amazing, definitely above any HG produced so far. I just wish it had a more sharper look instead of the round-ish torso and head sculpt. I do appreciate that they include yellow eye stickers as its more appealing for the RX-78-2 styled kit.
