Bandai has done it again with a newly made version of the GM Sniper II from Gundam 0080, this time from the Ver ANIME line. If you are a fan of one of the best GM designs of all-time, then you are going to love this.

The GM Sniper II is a very interesting mobile suit. Only briefly shown in Gundam 0080, and promptly wiped out off screen, you wouldn’t think this design would have survived and prospered amongst Gundam fans.

Instead, this plucky GM has become a classic fan favorite over the years and is somewhat revered these days.

The reasons for this level of admiration are many, from the fact that the mobile suit itself is one of the most high-performance units from the One Year War, rivaling even the RX-78-2 Gundam in terms of its potency, to the simple truth that it just looks very cool.

The latter is down to the skill and expertise of Yutaka Izubuchi, who did the mecha design for Gundam 0080.

However, the GM Sniper II has gone on to thrive in other media over the years as well. Having been featured in the Dreamcast game Gundam: Rise from the Ashes, it’s now part of the extended Gundam lore and has ended up in all manner of Gundam tie-in games since.

The other major facet of the GM Sniper II’s legacy is that it inspired the creation of the green GM Spartan, which in turn influenced the creation of the Master Chief in the Halo series of games.

Whatever way you look at it, the GM Sniper II is a classic mecha design and this new Ver ANIME rendition is arguably one of the best versions to date.

The review for this will be up shortly, so keep an eye out for that.

  1. there are worse than stormtroopers, because they dont even look good…and most stormtroopers dont, yet they are highly overrate because…reasons
they always looked so plain, and boring no matter how many extra parts they add to them, they will be allways the least appealing gundam designs ever (even if some are used or “recolored” or whatever by important characters)
