Finally finished! Made a make shift photo studio using 2 iPads from my kids. HDR is kinda tricky with its color correction. Are we allowed to tweak the color using iOS apps? These shots are not sent to syd yet.

Test fitting the Red Frame with the Trikeros, Maga no Ikutachi backpack, and Tsumuha no Tachi. Gold Frame Amatsu is a go. Fitting the necessary parts for Mina Custom next.

Looking great. Are you going to stip the gold and repaint it to match the gold the frame will be painted with or leave it as is?

    This is gorgeous.

  • Since I couldn’t paint tonight again, I went ahead and did some more base work. This time I’m adding the texture coat. To do this I took some dried dirt from outside and nuked it in the microwave to kill off any nasty bacteria that might be lurking in it.

Then I mixed it with water and white elmers glue (I actually used a little too much water really) and spread the goop onto the base and let it dry. The little stones and unevenly ground up dirt granules leave it with a nice earthy texture. After this I can go over it with primer and paint it up with some nice drybrushed layers of oranges and browns for that ibo martian soil look. As it dries it will also level off a little more.

This is going to be more of a vignette style base than an actual diorama that tells a story. I just…

    • He he I do the same thing, a good material to use I found out is also venus fly trap compost it has a fine mixture of sand and earth and goes well with smaller scale dios.

Now I want chocolate cake. 😉

More led work, 19 done so far, lord know how many more I\'ll do. Added a large thruster bell to the inside of the shoulder armour since I\'m removing the 3 little pop out ones.

I had some time again, very busy at work lately, so hope I\'ll be able to finish this.

Looks like some of the old artwork for the Baund doc. I lile it.

  • Couldn’t open my window to airbrush today like I planned due to snow so I worked on the base some instead. The ridge is styrofoam glued to the board and the whole thing is on its second layer of a paper-mache product called cellu-clay. Its only drawback is that it takes a while to fully dry (Multiple days) but you can speed it up by putting it in an oven at low temp.

The idea is sort of a mars wasteland to go with the Barbatos and mobile worker. There is going to be a chain link fence with a tekkadan sign up on the ridge.

This time i made a back part for the head and used the lid from the comfort bottle and used this with a different lid to make the thigh/hip part. I put some metal rods through this to help hold the body once the legs are attached. It does still look messy and uneven in places but that will all be rectified later. If i finish it ;). Also let me no if you want less updates and i will ease up on them.

It’s slowly taking shape. I can’t wait to see how you work out the tugboat’s legs.

It\'s been over a week since I last updated, but in the mean time I started scribing and detailing with .3mm plate. This kit is a big blank slate in terms of armor detail so its been fun to plan out how to add some detail to it.

Thanks. The drum mag is mostly just trying to imitate the lance versions drum mag, but I’m not completely sold on it either. I’ll have to check my spare parts bin for other ideas, I just dislike tge 2 default magazines it comes with.

    • the detailing you’ve added so far is pretty damned clean.
Not sold on those drum mags on the guns though, looks off to me.

    • I like it, but I think the head could use some more work. I’m not a huge fan of the small V-fin, but other than that I think this looks great.

  • Finally making a new update. I added a rail to the sides of the shoulders, used .3mm plate to add some detail to the big empty expanse of the chest armor, and added some rails to the extra skirt armor to make it look like its clipped to the armor under it. I also started modding the knees to look a bit different than just standard barbatos parts and have been planning out where to scribe some new panels. I’m hoping to be done modding by March so I have about a month to paint everything.
  • I haven’t updated in a while because I’ve been busy at work. There hasn’t been any major updates on Barbatos for the moment but I have progressed quite a bit on the 1/100 mobile worker truck. Its still missing a few details and the front isn’t quite the angle I wanted but it at least is starting to look like what it’s supposed to be.

Next batch of tests. Since I screwed up the first casting I made, I used the test pieces as paint tests for the cans I have. The satin blue tint can i have seems to work well with the resin. The combination of metal cast and silver pain is what I’m not happy about. I need to find a dark metallic spray paint to get that metallic inner frame i want. Also testing some metal tubing on the leg engine.

Have you considered just painting the frame a flat dark grey or black with only specific parts silver or metallic grey (like the inside of certain joints, hydraulics, etc)? That can look great when done right too and the light/dark contrast really makes certain parts “pop”.

If you have an airbrush and can spray lacquer or fume heavy paints then mr.color steel and Alclad steel look nice. Just leave them bare though as even gloss clearcoat can dull their metallic sheen.

Otherwise tamiya gunmetal seems to be the go to spraycan for inner frames for a lot of gunpla modelers.

  • I got my barbatos built up and have started transfering the parts I’ve been working on over to him. The shoulder joints are modified from a graze kit I messed up the painting on and resisted fully stripping. The shoulder armor should fully cover them. I’m also using parts of the form 6 shoulders as additional front skirt armor.

I also managed to get my idea for adding an LED for the eyes to work. I pressed the front face plate into a blob of hot-melt glue as it dried and the glue oozed up through the eye-holes. A little trimming and I had myself a semi-transparent eye piece instead of the opaque one the kit comes with. The batteries for the LED are hidden in the backpack and are accessible by flipping up the thruster. I’m still on the fence what color to use but for the moment…

  • My package and base kit came in today. I’ll post another update tomorrow once it’s fully assembled and I’ve swapped some of the custom parts onto it.
  • My package and kit artives today, but in the meantime this weekend I have been working on other parts for my entry. First I picked up a cheap pinewood base to use for my diorama. I sanded it down to remove the roughness of the surface and edges, then gave it two coats of stain. Tonight I’ll coat it with some satin varnish and it will be ready to start building on top of.

I have also started scratchbuilding a little mobile worker truck. I tried to build one of these last year but burned out halfway through. There were some parts I wasn’t satisfied with so I decided to start over. Instead of building a ladder for the back from scratch I decided to use part of a fire escape from a N scale building. I also have a little toolbox and jug to go in the bed from a 15mm tank kit.

  • Got my January stuff into my private warehouse today so I can finally ship out my stuff. In the meantime I haven’t been idle. Using my 1/100 form 4 as a base I’ve been messing around with various ideas and have started making mods. I doodled around and messed with my spare parts until I had a rough idea of what I wanted. I have leftover bazooka shoulders from two graze custom 1/100 so I made them into gattlings instead. For the graze custom backpack I replaced the thicker pegs so now it will fit my barbatos’s frame. I will also be using it to store the batteries for an LED. When my Form 6 arrives I should be able to just swap these parts right onto it after I have it assem…

In reply to: Blackneko posted an update in the group Advanced Modeler - Modeling Competition 2017 I want to clarify something, are we allowed to enter a entry that I\'m going to use both this comp and GBWC but I haven\'t started building or moding yet View

If I remember right GBWC rules specifically say you can’t enter anything that has been entered in another contest before.
