I didn’t finish my model for the 2013 plamo contest, so I’ll try again. This time it’s a Wave Gladiator, one of my favorite MaK machines. Required box art and first peek into the box. Now to figure out how to post in the advanced group. It’s been a while. View
Yeah, I have been really boring out the snap fit sockets and slots for all parts now! Even trying to work carefully, I still managed to break two more pins. I really feel sorry for the guys who snap their kits together, as I suspect that they would be getting a lot of broken bits. I have not had this problem before – is it common? I was also…[Read more]
Crisis #1 of the Kampfer build! The blue parts are molded from extremely brittle plastic. I’m not sure if it is the age of the kit or the plastic formula. Anyway, it likes to shatter! I got the big pieces back together, but there is a small chip on the back of the neck collar that will need to be rebuilt. I usually drill and scrape the pins…[Read more]
Ouch! Could be the same problem as parts with that extra shiny finish that some Bandai kits have – the plastic used is very brittle and does what you describe. In that case, be very careful when assembling the kit, because even applying a little pressure (e.g. when popping a hip joint into place) may cause the parts to crack…

This is my unfinished HGUC Gog. Again, not really a favorite of mine, but it is a far cry from the original kit. A friend who lived in Japan told me about the time when the original Gundam kits hit the department stores, and the only kit that was left on the shelves was the Gog. He was crushed. But the HGUC does look the part and builds up…[Read more]
Here are a couple more Zeon kits of mine. The Acguy is not my favorite MS design by a far shot, but the HGUC kit is fantastic to build! The Gouf was my second HGUC kit that I built, so the monoeye is kind of lame looking. I used the same technique as my HGUC Zaku II, but painted the eye too red. The 1/550 Grablo was my first Gunpla, built 30 years ago!
My first kit was the USS Pittsburgh by Revell, which my mom got for me to keep me quiet one afternoon. It was the first kit that I built unsupervised. Mom must have been really trusting leaving a five year old alone with a tube of glue and paint. BTW, I only had flat black and chrome silver, so that’s how the model got finished!
That’s one of my favorite MSV kits! Even if you just stick in standard HGUC type polycap joints, you will get something that does not have that “old kit smell”. Throw in some better hands and make a clear monoeye shield, and I think you will be good to go. The kit is that good, IMHO. Good luck, and looking forward to seeing this get built!…[Read more]
Hm. Wasn’t thinking about doing the monoeye shield mod. But its a nice idea. I was going to cut the head from the torso and put in on a ball joint for some movement. so i might as well try doing that.
