Crisis #1 of the Kampfer build! The blue parts are molded from extremely brittle plastic. I’m not sure if it is the age of the kit or the plastic formula. Anyway, it likes to shatter! I got the big pieces back together, but there is a small chip on the back of the neck collar that will need to be rebuilt. I usually drill and scrape the pins and tabs to allow fit adjustments, but the upper body apparently got hung up on something when I was disassembling it. Grrrrrrrrrr @#$%^&*!

It scared the crap out of me, as it was an explosive disintegration! I have had parts separate on the “flow lines” when paint or solvent was applied, but this was the first time I had a part blow up I my face.

    • Ouch! Could be the same problem as parts with that extra shiny finish that some Bandai kits have – the plastic used is very brittle and does what you describe. In that case, be very careful when assembling the kit, because even applying a little pressure (e.g. when popping a hip joint into place) may cause the parts to crack…

      • Yeah, I have been really boring out the snap fit sockets and slots for all parts now! Even trying to work carefully, I still managed to break two more pins. I really feel sorry for the guys who snap their kits together, as I suspect that they would be getting a lot of broken bits. I have not had this problem before – is it common? I was also not aware that the “Extra Finish” kits had the same problem. Anyway, I’m supposed to be a big boy so no more crying. More meaningful posts to follow after the weekend.

    • Is not your fault…mine MG Kampfer had the same problem.
