This is exactly what I came here to ask too. With the upcoming Phenex using ver ka waterslides, I really want to know this too… when putting waterslides on my Sazabi ver ka it was a nightmare until I went out and bought mark softer, but I’ve read that can damage paint… and top coat would ruin the reflective finish, I think? I’ve searched so…[Read more]
The general body could be ok with the water slides but protecting them is the issue…
But with the mg phenex, I got a feeling they’ll be rub on decals much like my mg hyaku shiki, and they’ll sell the water slides separately, of course I haven’t seen the proper decal sheet and this is based on speculation :c
For anyone who is scrolling down for the answer, finally got around to it, there is some effect but it depends on how much paint is used, I used tamiya clear coat and flat coat from spray cans, when I went full on NUTS and over coated a part with the clear I noticed the paint took off some of the finish and retained it when it dried (the thing was…[Read more]
It was located with all the other retail MG releases, and the name plaque didn’t say anything, so I think it’s definitely 100% going to be a retail release. The exclusive stuff (Premium Bandai sales and Gundam Front Tokyo sales) were shown in separate areas away from the retail stuff.
I know you guys will do a video about what was at the Expo, but I went to the Gunpla Expo too so I hope it’s ok to share this 😛 I felt like I wanted to share some of my experience there so I made a video about some of my thoughts, and I show off the limited RG Destiny (orange colour!) and Gold Frame /w clear parts.

Yeah I definitely agree, the flat coat works wonders on it. I think it might be the type of plastic they use for the Zoids? When I see them assembled but unpainted they look a bit toy-ish but after you coat them they look much nicer.
Oh man, Syd you’re pushing me closer and closer to buying the Geara Doga, I really feel like building a big and ‘simple’ kit for a change, like a relaxing coastal drive instead of a frantic F1 race that RGs and […]
I hope this doesn’t sound rude, but I’m a bit worried that as the months and years go on, the concept of ‘groups’ might become messy. The broad groups which group similar content (RG or Zoids) keep those topics neatly organised, but it seems groups can be created for almost anything, for example a news story. I feel like that sort of content shoul…[Read more]
@ryan. a good choice might be a top down directory structure. it groups for model building under ‘kits’ news under ‘news’ etc which would prevent the future mess and help with the lagging members have experienced on the groups and activity pages
Visually I think it looks great, though from a marketing point of view, I think it’s missing *instant* recognition that you’d want from an RX-78 kit… since the colour of the suit is kind of washed out and the same as the space around it… I dunno, I think the flagship model kit should be more obvious and stand out…? Its legs take up most of…[Read more]
I was confused as heck by this too. Had to check the Gundam wiki and guess that the exclusive one is the “incomplete” form of the amatsu that they list. Even when I was looking at the magazine advertisement for the kit releases side by side I wasn’t sure haha.
No difficulties so far, lots of parts though so it’s comparable to a Master Grade I guess. I guess the thing that has tripped me up is that it has a very ‘raw’ industrial/mechanical look so you have layers of parts, it can be a bit difficult to picture what will be visible (so which part to detail) and what will be hidden. The manual only has…[Read more]
my advice, is to detail it all, even if your pretty sure it wont be seen once built, the hmm kits have a great habit of building the layers up so the details is very organic looking but in any one static pose alot is hidden, however once you move this and that into a new pose a large swarm of detail layers deep pops out, the iron kong is great for…[Read more]
