Hello, got a question for future models…one I can’t test due to lack of test subjects…YET.

Titanium finish on a gundam kit, I know waterslides will work from what I seen, what about using a top coat to protect, will this affect the finish?

And the more important one, marksetter (or the other mark what’s its name, i don’t have it within reach) on titanium finish, would that affect the finish in an attempt to make the water slides stick?

    Thanks in advance.

    • This is exactly what I came here to ask too. With the upcoming Phenex using ver ka waterslides, I really want to know this too… when putting waterslides on my Sazabi ver ka it was a nightmare until I went out and bought mark softer, but I’ve read that can damage paint… and top coat would ruin the reflective finish, I think? I’ve searched so much for answers but can’t seem to find a direct answer…

      • The general body could be ok with the water slides but protecting them is the issue…

But with the mg phenex, I got a feeling they’ll be rub on decals much like my mg hyaku shiki, and they’ll sell the water slides separately, of course I haven’t seen the proper decal sheet and this is based on speculation :c

I need to test one day-WAIT I BUILT A COATED SD GUNDAM, I MUST TEST THOSE RUNNERS!

        • For anyone who is scrolling down for the answer, finally got around to it, there is some effect but it depends on how much paint is used, I used tamiya clear coat and flat coat from spray cans, when I went full on NUTS and over coated a part with the clear I noticed the paint took off some of the finish and retained it when it dried (the thing was dripping wet so as it ran across i noticed color swirling, id take a pic but my cameras arent good :c) but when done in a controlled fashion (ie what you are meant to do!) it looked alright.

Did the same with the flat, it bubbled when over coated but looked ok if flat when done how its meant to be done, but note the red parts despite being mekki coated weren’t the same kind as the gold mekki (I used the super steel version of the SD musha gundam’s runners) so effects may vary.
