I hope this doesn’t sound rude, but I’m a bit worried that as the months and years go on, the concept of ‘groups’ might become messy. The broad groups which group similar content (RG or Zoids) keep those topics neatly organised, but it seems groups can be created for almost anything, for example a news story. I feel like that sort of content should be grouped inside something like a “gunpla news and discussion” group instead? “Discuss x announcement” is such a narrow topic that after it dies down it will just kind of sit there and clutter the more important discussion groups.

I’ve administered several discussion forums over the years and as the years roll on, ‘digital curation’ becomes a genuine issue- for example, if a user can’t find the appropriate place to post something within a minute or so, they’ll just post it anywhere and say “sorry couldn’t find where to put this”. As I said, that’s not really an issue now with 60 groups, but I can see it becoming a hassle if it ends up being 600 groups, 500 of which are news discussion. If, say, the RG discussion group isn’t used for a while, someone could end up making a duplicate because they couldn’t find the original amongst all the other groups.

Again, I don’t mean any disrespect to people posting content or anything, I’m just a bit worried about future-proofing the group system.

    • Thanks for the feedback. A few people have mentioned this problem and we are still trying to figure out a good solution.

      • @ryan. a good choice might be a top down directory structure. it groups for model building under ‘kits’ news under ‘news’ etc which would prevent the future mess and help with the lagging members have experienced on the groups and activity pages
