howdy, have a quick question here, how do you remove those gate marks after cutting a part with sandpaper and which gloss/metallic colour is good for the char red and pink as i am using it on the zaku amazing to give it the shine(and if possible, a spray can version)?

Based on pressumption, it may seem like there won’t be any Xi Gundam Mg or even a Penelope. Gosh, wish to have a Mg of both of then, but that might take a long while

Hi, need some advice for painting again as i am still a little uncertain of a few things.
    1. if i were to use gloss/pearl paint instead of metallic paint, how many layers would i have to paint on my custom model to give it those kind of shine that you see in the gundams in those extreme vs game trailers.
    2. is there any spray can version for…[Read more]

alright, this question may not be related to anything about gunplay, but has anyone here ever participated in GBWC before and when they say to take three pics of your model, does all the pics need to have the diorama in it as well or just your model only? All answers accepted

    • Why not one pic of it in your intended pose on the diorama, and 2 more from different angles while on the diorama?

For some builds ive seen the diorama IS part of the build.

That said I always thought for early stages you’d rock up with the build and get judged…

Two MGs that i would definately want to see would be maybe a ver ka nu gundam hws and a ver ka hi nu gundam. But i find it disapointing that it may seem that Bandai has stopped using the expression manipulater which they did for gundam 3.0 and nu and sazabi ver ka, do you guys think that Bandai might have more of these manipulatoers in future MG…[Read more]

    • what do u mean by expression manipulater?

      • The nu Gundam ver ka debuted a new type of hands and I believe Bandai called them expression manipulators. As for the lack of use of the new hands, seems size of the kit influences weather they get the new manipulators.

        • ohh right, i think the expression manipulator….they shouldn’t use it in future MG’s in my opinion…i mean have you seen them on the 3.0?? they’re like SOOO BIG, very disproportion to the body….Like the RX-78-2 3.0 was a fantastic kit, loved the way it houses the LED, has great possibility and it is detailed. What more can you ask for.

          The only…[Read more]

Alright, i have a few questions here about painting as this is my first time trying. My questions are:
    1. is it nessecary to sand the entire kit and coat it with a layer of surface primer before painting?
    2. which tool is more recommended for painting, especially metallic paints, an airbrush or just a normal brush?
    3. is there any form of spray…[Read more]

    • 1. No it’s not really necessary. I don’t sand my kits, I just apply a coat of primer of the pieces for the paint to stick onto the piece.

      2. I would say airbrush for all of them because unless you’ve been practicing for a long time or are willing to do many hours of sitting and painting light coats of paints with a hand brush, airbrush will yield…[Read more]

    • 1. Sand where necessary, say to remove a nub mark or a moulding line. Otherwise undercoat as necessary. Some paints can go on straight, some benefit from undercoat and some require undercoat.

      2. Airbrush.

      3. Future Finish

      4. Yes, Alclad metallics need just a single (often light) coat on top of their gloss black primer to work wonderfully. They…[Read more]

    • 1. Okay, I’m going to be brief. Yes & no. No you dont need to, you can just wash your parts, to remove residue left over from manufacturing, but, it is a good habit to at least light buff every surface to increase bondingwith your paintprimer.

Far as priming, its dependent. If your changing colors, light over dark, its a must. If its same or…[Read more]

    • 1.no but it’s a good idea, but do keep in mind that paint, including the primer on joints will increase the friction and too much friction will make parts hard to move and can cause them to break. in other words mask the joints before spraying.

      2. I’d say airbrush if you want to paint an entire piece. For details it can really depend. Raised…[Read more]

Does anyone here know what is the material, which some builders use to create original parts, and how to use that material?

    • Some use putty, some use resin (i think) and some use “ploplate”, not sure what that is, and ther emay be many more materials…

Here is an example of what a real hardcore custom is like, from vegeta8259 on youtube, watch his work in progress vids, they could give you good references…or scare you away…[Read more]

thanks, by the way, anyone knows when GBWC 2014 begins?

  • brypla posted an update in the group Group logo of Q/A & Help GroupQ/A & Help Group 10 years, 2 months ago

Need some tips for GBWC as this is my first year joining the competition and not certain about a few things of the competition such as when it is held

    • Depends on where you are, I hate to suggest it but google your country and the gundam builders world cup, while at it google the rules for best results.

I know in australia it’s usually…um…somewhere in sydney, which sucks for me since I’m in the wrong state, the rules for competition are usually general so one set would apply for other…[Read more]

    • There only 1 rules are all the same. ‘Never be a smart ass doing a model bigger than the rule said.’ I saw many good build get disqualify because the size is too big.

anyone here know how to use pla plates for customisation or create original parts?

    • well I know the theory behind it but don’t really have too much experience myself. basically what you do is trace out a shape you want and cut it out, and if it’s not thick enough then double up on the plate and glue it together, and so on till you have the thickness you need, then when all the glue is dry you sand and file to the final…[Read more]

Hi all, need some ans here asap, just asking, if you were to create a diorama that involves lighting of LEDs for GBWC, will the competiton organisers provide you a power source to power the LEDs or you have to wire the LEDs to a battery box?

    • From looking at some of dioramas from the GBWC’s none of them seem to have any visible wires so I assume that they are all hidden and as a result, so is the power source. I think they all wire the LED’s to a hidden battery underneath the diorama so as to not detract from the presentation. Hope that helps and best of luck on your diorama.
