sadly no. thier like $18 a can locally. and given i hate working with lacquers to start with, just not worth it. i tend to stick with enamels and acrylic as cleanup and chemicals just arn’t as toxic

    • Ah, I see. That is a lot for a can. For Tamiya Spray, rubbing alcohol can strip and clean it up.

      • well only 1 dude local carries it, and it & it’s almost 3 hrs to the next shop, so he can pretty much charge whatever he wants.

wait, your saying the Tamiya synlacquer can still be cleaned up same way as acrylic?

  • Fox williamson posted a new activity comment 10 years, 7 months ago

tbh, the Only way to prevent silvering is to apply a gloss coat, decal then flat/satin coat over.

decals of anytype work best on a perfectly smooth surface, where flat and satins to get thier look are actually microscopic pittied coats, hense not flat.

so what you need to do is 1 gloss, apply decals then Flat/satin coat parts. Silvering is when…[Read more]

I do it all the time and never had a problem tbh.

mostly it’s enamel based ones i decant, and the trick is to let it degass fully before using i find.

    • Thanks. Have you tried Tamiya synthetic lacquers (Tamiya Spray)?

ouch, and i kavetched when customs dinged me for 22 bucks

  • Fox williamson posted a new activity comment 10 years, 7 months ago

honestly. I hope they don’t do the led feature, it’s nice, but having such a huge hole is always a put off to me, but i’m prolly minority.

    • I like LEDs. They make the model look so much cooler in dramatic poses. That said, I think Bandai should include them (at least with expensive kits like Nu, Sazabi, and 00 Raiser) so there aren’t random gaps in the kits. Maybe an inner frame style drop in block (y’know like the core block included with some MGs) would be an acceptable compromise…[Read more]

      • actually it’s the core blocks that drive me nuts. i always try to include some light up function in my non 144s. and honestly. bandai could give me wires, the led and a place for a C032 button in the structure and not have to carve out a huge gapping hole.

i realise bandai wanted 1 standardized design they could market and design around. but for…[Read more]

        • In any case, I think the RGs and the Gundam 3.0 are a sign that Bandai is moving away from the detailed inner frames that we’ve all become accustomed to in favor of detailed outer armor.

          • Oh I can accept that. I’ll miss the gorgious frames, & see it as now 1 less reason so spend my money (not a obsessised MS fanboy. I pick kits based on visual & technical aspects).

IE I bought the RG GP01 never having Seen 0083:SM (just now getting to see it) I just liked the design.

& I can deal with a non detailed frame. I love the technical…[Read more]

            • Is it too much to ask that a kit as massive and expensive as the new Sazabi have not only an LED monoeye, but also highly detailed inner and outer frames and a removable escape pod?
I can visualize how they could do it too, for the record.

              • Sounds like the eventual PG version of it that we’ll probably get a few years from now. Or limited edition exclusive MG version released a few years from now.

  • Fox williamson posted a new activity comment 10 years, 7 months ago

While i’ve never done models, I have judged other things and yeah, to be fair you have to judge on something quantifiable. Else it’s next to impossible.

Obviously given the style of this comp I’d bet will boil down to visual & technical merit

well my routine generally is dependent on the outcome. like the pg wing, not gotten around to finishing it, tend to putter on him at a nice slow relaxed pace inbetween pay kits.

but last serious MG i did for myself, went from box to full paint to bandai imgs standards in about a week.

personally, atm i just want to finish the current kit i’m on…[Read more]

Well I’ve knocked off MG grades in under a week avg, 4-5. granted I also built a PG wing in 13 hrs, so maybe I am, I’ve gotten to used to shaving my nubs that aside from a touch of sanding & maybe but of putty, prep don’t take long and I’ve sorta been using the same Primer for years

    • Do you mean you did all the step in that amount of time? I mean sand, prime, sand and removed all sunken mark, prime again, base coat, color, clear coat, decal, clear coat, panel lining, clear coat.

You must have a fast hands… Geez… you are very fast. 🙂

Sadly it will be. as that vendor selling that brand on El-cheapo brush is based in california. but they are based in california US, and to date have gone HLJ level of customer service. When i had a part break 1 week after purchase, theyrushed me said part without question

  • Fox williamson posted a new activity comment 10 years, 8 months ago

It’s not bad and works in a pinch, it is pretty durable & yes it works with Tamiya. Next time i suggest just commenting on your own question. otherwise you’ll get a disconnect in your posts

first off, Offial rules –> http://www.hlj.com/Playing-With-Plamo-Modeling-Competition-2013#generalrules

    • Hopefully I can get one of the official guys to chime in here shortly. I have 4-5 kits i’d like to possibly enter.. of course only one of them will be the final entrant..

      RG Zeta
RG Mk II Titans, which im going to turn into AEUG version. AEUG wasnt available
      HGUC Marasai
      HGUC Messala
      HGUC Doven Wolf

I have the Boxes and runners for all of…[Read more]

      • I think today I will go ahead and start a post for each kit. Hopefully the dryfit and a bit of primer won’t disqualify. but I am going to build them anyhow.
How do you get the attention of a moderator to make sure of these sorts of issues?

@kuroneko ya time management is always key.

for me i’ve yet to start my entry (backloged on kits) but i average 2 weeks for a 1/100 done up to match bandais photo examples

    • you are fast… 😀 One MG Unicorn took me 1 whole month to sand, prime and color… but of course I can do it in a week (16 hours per day), but don’t think so… as I don’t want to get fired by my boss for sleeping on my job… LOL!!!

okay first get yourself a .3micro gravity airbrush set up, then get alcladII silver and a good clear yellow like tamiya.

if you mist on about 6 layers of alclad, polish it then 2 coats tamiya clear yellow, you’ll match the paint. specially after sealing with future

  • Fox williamson posted a new activity comment 10 years, 8 months ago

I believe @Ryan commented on this and thier working on it but it’s being elusive as to what’s causing this glitch

  • Fox williamson posted a new activity comment 10 years, 8 months ago

okay, first off, congrats on going airbrush dude. it’s going to be a long long road, be warned.

1st. go slow and light, it’s better to have to add more, then have to remove paint.
    2. make sure to get a cleaning kit and airbrush cleaner, it will keep it working. nothing sucks more then wanting to get stuff done and instead have to fight to get…[Read more]

actually having build the unicorn, doing what he’s planning shouldn’t really take more then a month really, well, depends on what gimmiks he’s planning.

but imho a month to do whats in those shots (which are the 144) should only take a month, so he’s fine on time

    • That is exactly what I meant here. Plan the time slot is important. If is a 144 scale, I guess is lot more easy to work with less than 4 months to work but if is a 100 scale, might be some problem and of course plan properly shouldn’t be a problem at all.

@Johnnel, Hope to see some of your WIPs soon… cheers. 😀

OH!, btw MIST the paint on, better to light a coat then too heavy. so make sure to do steady even passes from one side to another never stopping/staring on the parts. you’ll get a much nicer finish this way

thats why i didn’t bother mentioning it originally. did one once and yes most of the non chrome was not under-gated, so short of decanting your rattles to do touch ups after.

and i always future my chromes before i even touch em. protects the surface and lets me even try thinks like color tinting without risking the finish.
