So I recently just got the Mr. Compressor L7 and it came with an air regulator. I know how other regulators work but, I can’t seem to figure out how to set up and use mine. Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated! 🙂
I’ve finally joined the airbrush master race! I’m going to buy paints and thinners, then it’s time to practice just on paper.
I’m thinking of starting with lacquer paints, any…
i used the good old fashion tamiyas but prob with that stuff it scratches easily so you have to pledge it and wait a while but spraying with laquers dont forget to wear a gas mask that stuff is toxic but have fun with it keep a good distance away from the parts not too close or ull overspray n not too far so u cant do any good precise painting
Was that Tamiya Acrylic? My local hobby shop has a decent selection of them but I don’t know if you need to thin acrylic like you would for lacquer paints.
Thanks for the tips for spraying, I’ll be sure to keep them in mind when I’m setting up.
Finally, Nick has joined the party!!! 😛 Congratulations on your purchase!
The Tamiya acrylic paints need to be thinned. You can use X-20A or Isopropanol Alcohol. If you choose to use the latter one, make sure it’s at least 90%.
All paints scratch, so it is advisable to clear all paints….
There is no problem in using enamels in the airbrush,…[Read more]
Thinners…. As I read it. I got alot of problems during my past projects. Using Vallejo acryliccolors, i thought using thinner and cleaner from Vallejo should be an emprovement to just using water. But i figured, that thinner and cleaner kinda reacts with water, causing a total block of the colorflow inside the pistol. Just using water, I have no…[Read more]
I’m pretty rough when it comes to airbrushing. $30NZD airbrush sets and a nice medium sized cheap chinese compressor. I decant tamiya spray cans into the hopper and it stretches out the cost of the cans as they can be expensive. The outcome isn’t bad and it’s great for experimenting. I use a strong Resene paint stripper for cleaner for all types…[Read more]
For what it’s worth – I use a wide range of paint types in a lot of different applications which includes fine scale modeling/gunpla. I almost always use the thinner and paint from the same brand. I find that works the best for me. I use enamel a lot for base coats – needs a good long time to dry and needs a sealing top coat if you are going to…[Read more]
Hi guys, I seek your advice. How can I get good results using the Mr. Hobby Cute Compressor? I recently got it since I am starting out and I found out that the power is…
4 Psi is really really low. To get some paint out of your airbrush, either one, you need to thin the paint heavily. Orange peal is the result of a too fast drying paint, to avoid it one can add retarder to the paint. The most likely problem for you with such a low air pressure will be the paint splotching….. That’s why my advice is to thin the…[Read more]
Hey man, it’s been awhile since I’ve been on this site site so I apologize for the late thank you for the advice! You’ll be happy to know that since then, I got the Mr. Compressor L7! I don’t know how to set up and use the air regulator though. T-T
4 psi is really hard to work with. I use a wide range of paints in enamel, lacquer and acrylic and depending upon what I’m doing and which paint (not always small parts model kits) sometimes I use PSI as high as 40 that’s TEN times what this does. Even for model kits I have used over 10 psi many times. You’ll probably have to thin a lot. Pay…[Read more]
Hey Guys, it has been a while since I posted in the group what with university and decorating the man cave I’ve not had chance to do any modelling but have been purchasing some like the MG Gouf, so I’d like like to start a section under this comment of your hobby rooms or spaces.
I recently started painting using an airbrush and I noticed that when I would paint, all that would come out would be clear liquid which I would assume is thinner, and not the actual color to be painted. I figured that I put too much thinner into the mix. What ratio of paint to thinner should I use?
depends on the paint. you kind of have to play around with it to get a ratio you like. for instance tamiya paint, some say a 1:1 ratio, i find that for 20 drops (pipette) of thinner i use 16-17 drops of paint. BUT i have been watching “Andy’s Hobby Headquarters” on youtube and he takes a fresh bottle of tamiya paint, opens it up and fills it the…[Read more]
oh also, if you are going to mix your paint and thinner in the paint cup of the air brush, i find turning the cup to the side and putting the thinner in first, trying to not let it get down where the needle is until i have mixed it with the paint helps to insure that i have all the thinner and paint mixed together
