The very first Sword Art Online Figure-rise Standard, Asuna, arrived just last week and we’ve all been very eager to take a look at the kit!
The Box
Bandai shows off the kind of poses you can accomplish with the completed model — no Figure-rise Standard is complete without considerable articulation. As you can see, this kit makes for a pretty good alternative to pricey action figures if you’re on a budget!
One particularly interesting point on this kit is the way Asuna’s legs are molded. You can see a little preview above, but Bandai has set her legs up in layers so that you get the different color details at the top of her stockings without needing stickers. A+ work.
You get some customization options here, too — Asuna has three different expressions you can choose from, several types of hand parts, and her sword and shield molded separately for display as you like!
Finally, here’s a look at the front and back of the completed kit. It’s likely that there’s paint in use here to polish the finished look, so be prepared for a slightly less-impressive version if you don’t bust out the paint.
However, the color separation and details on this kit are pretty good, as you’ll see soon — so don’t fuss over paint if you’re not comfortable painting!

Here are Asuna’s various expressions — they’re already molded into the face plates! This gives you the option to paint (though decals and stickers are included so that’s certainly not necessary), and gives depth to her expressions that a blank, flat face plate doesn’t.

F2: Silver
And you get parts for a Figure-rise stand, too, so you can hold Asuna in all kinds of dynamic poses once the model is finished!
Lastly, here’s something you don’t see every day: the option of stickers or water-slide decals for the details. Everything a Gunpla builder could ask for… but in a figure kit!
The main difference you may notice here is that there are two of every facial expression included in the decals, and just one in the stickers. This is nice in case you mess up application the first time.
Also, since you have stickers as a backup, this may be a good chance to try your hand at water-slide decals for the first time! If you mess up, you can just use the stickers instead!

Tesla Effect
Really appreciate that Asuna comes with water slide decals. Diver Ayame also had them and I hope this continues to be the norm with figure-rise kits. So far they are really impressive and cheaper to buy than figma.
