Currently working on MG Johnny Riddens zaku. Testing out different non-alclad metallic paints. Tamiya metallic grey is pretty close to magnesium so will be used again in future, tamiya chrome however….ew. Gold parts are vallejo liquid gold, this stuff is damned sexy. Also playing with citadel nuln oil was so excuse any slopiness 😛

    • So how does the Vellejo gold compare to the Alclad?

      • compared to alclad old gold, its pretty damned close, I imagine with a nice gloss topcoat it’d look amazing. I got 5 different shades of these liquid golds on sale for about a pound each when modelzone was closing down.

        • Great. Although I like the Alclad, it’s smelly and sometimes tricky and always expensive… so I’m always on the lookout for alternatives.

          • plus apparently you can hand brush the vallejo liquid gold, which is a plus for some. Be careful though, you have to keep it moving in your airbrush as the particles will block your airbrush if left to settle.

            • Ok, I’ve ordered a few from HLJ so I’ll try them out and see. Thanks for the warning on the airbrush though.

The problem I had with tamiya metallics, specifically their gunmetal was inconsistency. Some pieces came out looking great while some would come out looking almost silver. After multible coats I was able to get everything pretty good but it was kind of annoying.

The liquid gold I got was rich gold and I must admit it is pretty nice! Takes some work to get the pigment mixed well though. Mine was clumped up at the bottom of the bottle.
