Hi, asking for opinions and answers here…

I started top coated my models in matte and clear finishes, I know when is the best use for each, but say for just the “finishing” coat…how do you guys go about spraying it?

I tried going in segments for each of rg strike freedom’s limbs but trying to attach them to sticks to allow rotation was a royal pain, I thought about having him stand there while I blast it while it stands on a surface i don’t care so much about with limbs extended to allow maximum coverage, or does one painstakingly spray each portion of armor before placing it back on?

Quick and easy or slow and methodical, I also need ay ideas for (if you segment your gundam kits) propping up sections to allow proper coverage, cheers

*note, using tamiya spray cans for clear paints, got a hg gouf custom and hg blue destiny that could really use these tips

    • What do you mean, “finishing coat?” Do you mean when you paint a kit, and you just topcoat it with a spray can, or when you topcoat an OOB?

    • I’ve done it different ways depending on mood and kit. for instance take the Exia or really anything from Gundam 00 every limb has a clear piece in it, so in that case I’d go all the way and spray each individual frame and armor part separately, ofcourse you could also mask the clear parts but the big thing for me is not to hit the clear parts with a matte. For a kit with less clear parts to worry about then segments should be fine but with segments there’s things you need to worry about like armor parts blocking the spray from reaching other armor and frame parts so you’ll need to spray let it dry then bend the limb and spray again. Then ofcourse sometimes there’s kits that you just want to get together quick and dirty and in that case then just spray the whole mobile suit in one go and be done with it.

so really what it boils down to is how methodical you wish to be with the kit.

      • The clear part warning I knew (i got a blue destiny with a semi ripped head awaiting paint) but I see, guess the quick and dirty will work for blue destiny for sure, other kits ill have to be careful (like rg strike freedom)…

        Thank you again 🙂
