RG MS-06F Zaku II – WIP
Weapons airbrushed… tried a little rust effects on the hawk blade…
Now I have to wait for spare parts (leg pipes and upper right jet for backpack).
Maybe will try some weathering in the meantime…

    • I think you need to thin your paints a little more and clean your airbrush nozzle and needles, paint is a little splotchy.

      • Splotchy isn’t necessary a bad thing if he’s going for a more weathered look. 🙂

        • Weathering requires a bit more care – there’s got to be some logic to it, and it’s important not to overdo it. The “splotchy” appearance could be taken as paint chipping, but if so it’s very extensive and a bit inconsistent, as the weathering doesn’t apply to the markings or to some of the panels.

          • Hi! Thanks for your observations. Could you explain me more in detail what do you meand by “splotchy” pointing at the pictures above? Airbrush was very clean and thinning seemed perfect and (almost) every effect was intentional, except for some panel lining gone bad on the rear leg–see previous post).
            What was my mistake?

            • The dark shading on the green parts – if it’s meant to be shading, it’s not a smooth gradient, it’s made up of a bunch of little dots.
If the idea is that this is a paint chipping effect, that could work, but it seems overdone perhaps… And if the paint is chipped or discolored, then the markings and insignia should also be chipped or discolored.
In general the effect of the deep shading on some panels, and none at all on neighboring panels, is a bit jarring – though such effects can happen, for instance if a maintenance crew replaces a panel with one that’s in pristine condition.

              • I agree, the panels with no shading at all stand out too much. They could be battlefield replacement armor parts, even then I think they need a little weathering so they don’t contrast so much.
The rest of it looks like it’s been through some combat and seen some battlefield repair and paint jobs done with what they have in the field.
