WIP #4.6: Having a little bit of trouble with the waterslide decals. I was testing out the letter pieces and Bandai logo from the decal sheet on some bare plastic, and I got mixed results. The Bandai logo seems to be fine, but the letter pieces seem to have some sort of white backing, really fragile, and just want to fall off to the touch. You guys got any idea what’s going on?

    • @g-n-particles, this is what I was talking about, hope you can see the from the pictures.

      • Doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen before. I wonder if it’s because you’re using the yet from the water slide sheet rather than the actual water slide transfers themselves? I know you’re doing it for testing / learning, but I wonder if they construct the print text differently to the actual water slide you put on the model??

        • The letters and the Bandai logo all have their own pre-cut groove like the actual decals themselves. They are on the same sheet, I doubt they are different. Maybe they dried up too fast? It was kind of dry here yesterday.

    • are you sure they’re waterslides? If they are you need to use Mr. Mark Softer or something like it to help film edges become clear. I’m about to update with my own decaled parts so you can see there

      • I can’t read Japanese, but I’m pretty sure I got the right one. It’s the GD-39 Zeon Decals. I do not have the Softer, but the Bandai logo seems to be fine with just water. Perhaps it’s the size of the decal itself?

        • hmm i leave this fórum for days and look the mess it turns lol.

what happen to your decals is normal, the wáter slide that are “supposed” letters and need to be seen on a painted model in almost all the type come with a light grey background, this is to make a layer for the eyes to see the letters of the decal, imagine you put a black letter decal on a black plastic piece? nobody can see it, but, whit that background now you can :D.

The MG deathscyte hell, also comes with that, i put mine on the black wings, but you can see the layer that reduced when i applied gloss barnish, now the more darker the paint/plastic part is the more you would see the grey layer, sometimes there are people that cut almost all the edges of the decal, so only the grey parts between the letter is seen (not all the decals frame).

So now is up to you, if you want or not decals, my MG freedom dont have it (in those years i was lazy, now…..i´m also lazy for putting them on him, i like how it looks) also i dont know why a big robot would have decals in real life, even if it does, after all those fights….they will be a mess jeje

PD: i dont look on this fórum anymore cuz i dont have nothing to do, just came today to put you some pics of my z–gok .____.V

          • So you’re saying it’ll be fine if I just clear coat it? It won’t come off?

            • Ok water decals are not a paper that separate from the decal when it’s mixed with water, when you put the decal on water it trigger it’s little amount of glue it has, glue that needs water to work, and air to dry, so at the end is glued to the model, but scrathes will take of. Then you can add barnish but:

Mat barnish gives a +1 coat of protection against scratches or bad dry, it will look the same (edges etc).

Gloss barnish gives +2 coat against missiles ejem scratches, but it will show more the edges etc that you dont like from darker colors.

Also: what happens if you want to apply a decal that has the same color of the piece? (Like white letter on white plastic) you cant? Wrong you can, first sand the area, then paint a very ligh grey (or other color, depends on base color) and then apply the decal. Just that if you did not know.

Hope this help and you know you have my email, talk with you later
