I’ve seen a couple of people mention their priming and painting. Isn’t this group not supposed to be painting except a little hand painting? I’m not going to paint my entry even if it is I was just curious.

    • I’m painting my kit, (details: eyes, swords, shoulders). You are technically allowed to spray-paint and airbrush. Just don’t do a full repaint of the kit, otherwise it will be considered intermediate.

      • Oh, I missed where it said we were allowed to spray-paint and airbrush. I was under the impress this was basically out of the box builds with panel lines, some hand painting for small parts and a top coat if you feel the need.

    • I think it’s more so just a question of experience and skill. I’m using spray and dry brushing and a little bit of hand painting too, but its very much a new thing to me as its just my fourth kit and I’m trying these things for the first time.. But someone like Syd who may at times just use spray paint, maybe more would def be intermediate if not advanced cause of his experience and skill…

    • If you follow the description closely, there should be like you said, but I guess people just add stuff in here and there. Not sure too though since there’s no clear cut set of rules.

      • It might be that I should have entered the intermediate category. I’ve only been building models since this past January so I really consider myself a beginner. I plan on priming, airbrushing, gluing, and removing seams. I figured if HLtv feel that I need to be moved they would let me know. The rules aren’t totally clear so I figured they would move me if necessary. Before this year I only built a couple airplane models like 20 years ago. I have been working on models pretty much daily this year and learning a lot.

        • I’m airbrushing the whole model (well apart from the fine detail like the eye lens), I thought about intermediate, but then this is my fourth build, my second HG, and my first time painting said HG (the other two kits were 1/144 no grade Gundam Wing suits).

One interpretation of the rules could mean as long as you don’t stray from the original colour scheme, you could enter this or intermediate, intermediate struck me as a group where you could go crazy with colours, and schemes (and from what I saw of that class, I would be outclassed as someone only just getting the hang of the airbrush, and building Gundam kits).

If I get bumped up to intermediate, then I’m fine with that, I just don’t think I’m ready to be in that class.

        • If airbrushing is considered ok for this category, then those who didn’t airbrush their kits will have a disadvantage with the “look” category. Many people might be too “advanced” for this category, but I’m pretty sure they will be out gunned by the intermediate participants.

    • I guess this post was more for a clarification than to say “HEY! This guy shouldn’t be here!” Some people start with airbrushing and think hand painting is advanced to them and vice versa so I guess it shouldn’t really matter. I imagine when they read through your final submission where you tell them what all exactly you did they can figure it out so just do what you’d like and go on with life. lol.

      • After Reading all this, i havent read a case that someone has been moved to another category, also i ask myself “do they read all this? (posts? updates?) yesterday i sent my pics for the final entry, i load them, type a description, and click send, i only got a Green line telling “your message was sent”………….i thoguht i would get a confirmation on my email about sending the photos, we are talking for final entrys pictures, not a regular update, so i HOPE they get/got them, anyway until next year that they said who won……..maybe i´ve forgot about all this lol
