As for the thickness, it depends on how thick you want the raised detail to be. Just keep in mind that the thicker the pla-plate is, the less easy it’ll conform to curved surfaces.
On scribing panel lines, in what shape or form, it would take me ages to type down the instructions. I suggest going to YouTube and search for Justinius Builds. He recently started a tutorial on the subject and it was even clear for a noob like me. He hasn’t finished the tutorial, but for what you have in mind, I’m sure it’ll help you out. Maybe you can even find some more tutorials on there as I believe a visible aid in this is more handy then a long complicated written one.
