So I tore off those terrible stickers that came with the kit and have started painting the trim. I also did some panel lining. Now I’m thinking about some decals to make it pop a little. There’s also clean up to do on the paint job. In particular, the shield needs a lot of work.
Yep, the Sinanju’s shield is a real bastard to paint, but if you plan on cleaning it up with some black gundam marker, and clear coating it, clear coating it almost perfectly hides the gundam marker’s slightly different finish. Take your time with it!
Unfortunately, I live in an apartment in seattle, so I can’t really do any type of coating, since it’s cold and damp outside, and there’s no ventilation inside.
I did the trim with a gold gundam marker, and then a brush with paint to fill in what the marker missed. I’ll post an update in a few minutes to show what it looks like.
It depends. Are you painting the trim with Gundam Markers? You could flat coat the kit, though pretty much everybody else is doing that. Panel lines are very minimal on this kit. There are already three other HGUC Sinanjus in this competition, and pretty much all of them are doing a “Titanium Finish” sort of look. I would recommend flat-coating…[Read more]

I would try finding some HGUC decals for your Sinanju. You can pick and choose which ones you want to put on and they really add a bit extra to the Sinanju especially if you like the look of the Ver. Ka style! Not to mention waterslide decals are pretty fun to put on.
@Bossguy well the weather predictions aren’t showing any good news So i’ll try just a few more coats tomorrow and if it still doesn’t turn out with a good flat look, I’ll just have to wait a few months xD
All you need is 50 or above with low humidity. It’s been cold recently but I’ve still managed to spray in the afternoon with good results. Make sure you always overspray and at least make 2 passes with the can. If you have a bit of sun you can see clearly where the spray hit!
Even if it looks “smokey” from your view it looks pretty flat to me in the pictures. Sometimes you have to do two coats of flat to actually get the best effect. From the pictures it looks good!

No, I’ve got some more stuff to do. Normally this is where I’d stop with a kit, but I want to try some new stuff. I hate the gold stickers that came with it, so I’m in the process of painting the gold trim by hand. Then I’m going to attempt to panel line it. Then I’m not sure what I’ll do.

I’ve experienced problems with thinning the gold enamel; it tends to coagulate and cluster into one big piece and therefore, disabling me to paint. I end up using it unthinned as of the moment. 🙁
Here’s the snapfit. I tried to do some nub management as I was working on it, but I lost my sandpaper somewhere, so I didn’t get all of it. I’ll have to grab some more for the particularly annoying nubs, but the nice thing about sinanju is the nub marks don’t stand out as badly as on a lot of other kits I’v put together.
