depends on what you want out of your kit. if you want it painted but you don’t want to spend a lot of time on it then you spray on the runners and do touch ups later. pretty much that’d be the quick and dirty method. when you want paint with a perfect finish and no touch up work, or as little as possible, you gotta do it in pieces, What I…[Read more]

yes the holder is easy to overlook but if you start spraying and don’t have one it’ll get on your shopping list pretty fast lol.

the double action airbrushes give you more control over paint and airflow, which can be nice, but for just basic painting a single action is good enough. it’s up to you how you want to go about it. if you think you’re…[Read more]

I’d suggest going with a single action airbrush first. a dual or double action airbrush is just an added complication you don’t need to be dealing with, though when you’re more comfortable with airbrushing then you may want to go get a double action it’ll give you better control of the paint and airflow. Other than that you definitely want to…[Read more]

    • I was thinking the same thing about the single action but I’m not sure I want to buy a airbrush and then buy another one within a few months or a year. Are double actions that much harder? I was told to get a double action. Also I can’t believe I didn’t think about the airbrush holder lol. That wouldn’t of been good. Thanks for the suggestion.

      • well double action theres alot more controlling u have to do and it take a while to get used to it it aint too bad but it takes some time to get used to single action theres no control over ur spraying its just like coming out of a spray can just normal air and u cant control how much paint u want on it

yeah you can see them from the shoulder armor to the side of the upper arms. it’s only in the first season Exia has them, they’re seen on the shoulders, after that the tech evolved and it wasn’t needed anymore so repair II and onward don’t have it. and unlike the Zaku it’s not armored. also on the exia repair, they’re missing because 1 arm is…[Read more]

well there’s a bit more to it actually, the Zaku is supposed to be a cheap mass produced unit, so something like exposed cables helps keep this idea but they’re not all that vulnerable they’re kept rather close to the body so really if you’re close enough to hit them you’re close enough to finish the job too. also it looked cool and that’s why…[Read more]

well everything on a machine is of some importance unless it’s completely cosmetic so it’s kinda like saying “if the head gets chopped off then what?” anyways those are power cables. and if they get cut then whatever they’re powering either shuts down or has lowered responsiveness if there’s an alternate power feed aswell.

    • For a minute I was like -well that’s poor engeneering or construction- bc why would u leave such things (cables) exposed, specially being a suit with so much armor but then again maybe it’s a strategy to lure enemies and then, Baaaam! I was just really curious bc I didn’t know what color to paint them.

      • not gunna lie lukenotskywalker its better to not criticize the way they desgined it lol its a gundam sorry to say this to all my gundam people but gundams arent real lol theyred sifi anything can hapen

are actual bubbles forming when you spray the paint? if so then it maybe something as simple as you holding the airbrush too close.

  • Steven posted a new activity comment 9 years, 6 months ago

well I don’t know the exact colors they want, there are common color selections that Bandai uses across their kits, you’ll see them pop up a lot and based on those colors I can tell you the likely choices. frames are almost always 90% Neutral Grey, 10% black, that’s the most likely frame color for Destiny. the parts that look black are just…[Read more]

that’s cool wasn’t sure, but yeah wasn’t really expecting anyone try it. Though if they did that’d be the way to get actual mirror finishes. Kinda extreme but now that I know it’s possible I wonder if I’ll ever see anyone go that far.

  • Steven posted a new activity comment 9 years, 6 months ago

just to add to that a bit, you should also clean your parts thoroughly and give them a good sanding with a very high grit sandpaper, to get the smoothest cleanest surface, which will in turn give you the best results with either method. won’t garuntee a perfect shiny gold but it’ll get the best out of your paints, for a true gold you need to get…[Read more]

    • Electroplating can be done on plastic. I recently have seen a video with Adam of MithBusters on YouTube. He has a life size Endoskeleton of the Terminator. It is chromed in the same way as they chrome metal parts for cars and it’s fully plastic. They spray a highly copper based material on it first in order to run an electric current through the…[Read more]

don’t want to discourage you, ofcourse aiming to be competition worthy is a great goal but if you’re just starting with paints don’t be too critical or expect too much it takes time to develop those skill all the same I wish you the best.

    • Well i wanted to paint the parts white and the primer is the same shade of white as my paint, so when i tried to airbrush the white onto the part i couldn’t tell where i had hit and how thick it went on so i figured i could just hit it with a gloss top coat to get the desired effect.

  • Steven posted a new activity comment 9 years, 6 months ago

well primers and topcoats just like paints come in acrylic enamel and lacour, and just like paints lacour will eat through enamel and acrylic and enamel will eath through acrylic, and even if it’s the same brand, you have to make sure it’s the same type or atleast not being used in the orders that eat through each other.

    What I suspect happened…[Read more]

yeah don’t think it’s noticeable at all and infact if you’re going for a flat finish it’s the recommended way….well technically. Normally you’d put down a gloss, then do the stickers and decals and such then flat, so that would be flat over gloss.

  • Steven posted a new activity comment 9 years, 7 months ago

and that’s cheap compared to the “platinum Fix Figuration RX-78-2 ver. KA” you can’t buy it but it has $250,000 worth of platinum and a diamond for it’s eyes, but back in 2007 it seems his price tage was comparable to that PG, only he’s about the size of an HG

  • Steven posted a new activity comment 9 years, 7 months ago

you need to not use the matt at all, matt kills shine that’s pretty much the whole point of it, when you want something to shine you use a gloss coat, think you can even polish that too after and get even more shine, but what you definitely don’t want to do is put anything matt down ontop of your new shiny surface.

good addition I was considering whether or not to get into the regulator thanks for covering that for me as well as the expanded info.

well for starters the air brush and compressor, ofcourse are the very basic. but on the airbrush you need to consider if you want single or dual action, I’d recommend starting with a single action and when you’re comfortable with that moving to a dual action.

now then beyond that you’re gonna want an airbrush stand so you can put the airbrush…[Read more]

    • @Steven, good info. Yet there are still a few pointers.
@kissarmy8193, if you are looking for an air compressor, it is wise to get one with an air pressure regulator. Some paints require a higher pressure then others. Spraying a paint which requires a low pressure sprayed with a high pressure can and almost will ruin your paint job.
      With a…[Read more]

ahh I see well can’t really do much about the selection you have, but since you asked about metallic red I assume you have that available atleast. if you can then get a blue, silver/white, gold/yellow, and black/grey then you’re pretty much set for most things kits with Gundam in the name.

Also don’t feel that having metallic paints on the kit…[Read more]

      • sorry I haven’t been checking into hlj for a bit but to add to that you should put down a gloss black coat before the silver, most silver paints tell you this on the can, metallic paints have a bit of transparency to them and the black makes the silver just a bit more vibrant.

Also I’d probably go for a mica/pearl over a metallic if you can find…[Read more]

well they’re different formulas ofcourse but beyond that not too much , Mr Color does however also have a UV Cut line which is supposed to protect your paints from UV exposure and thus preserve the color longer, I like using that stuff but can’t really tell you if the UV Cut thing actually works but it makes me feel better.
