I’ve got a pretty noob question I wanna ask and could use some info from people who know what they’re doing. I want to switch from spray paint to an airbrush and would like to know what equipment I should get. I saw a starter kit on amazon and wanted to know if it was good for a noob like me to is.

    • Well there’s a number of ways to go, the very simplest would be just an airbrush with cans of compressed air, as you may imagine that’s not all that much better than spray cans. the next level up would be to switch out the cans of compressed air with an actual compressor, this gives you a more even and constant flow of air. then the next step from that would be a moisture trap and a regulator. The regulator lets you control the pressure, and the moisture trap gets rid of water vapor from the air. Now then I wouldn’t recommend the compressed air at all, so for starters I’d go with a simple airbrush and compressor setup, you can think about the moisture trap and regulator later if needed.

now then there’s a few other things to consider, for instance you’ll occasionally have to set down your airbrush and laying it on the table isn’t really a good idea, in other words you want an airbrush stand or some sort of holder that can support it when not in use. and you’ll need thinner and mixing pots to mix your paints to the right ratios for your airbrush.

      • oh another thing you’ll see dual action and single action airbrushes. single action airbrushes have a simple trigger to release the air and paint and a double action lets you release the air and control the flow of paint separately giving you better control, but for beginning I’d say go with a single action first and upgrade to a double action when you’re more comfortable and ready to do more detailed things that can benefit from that added control.
