Does anyone know where I can get a good pair of side cutters?
I live in Scotland, near Glasgow and there are few shops I can buy from. The best is probably Hobbycraft, which has a great range of paints, files and so on.
But when it comes to cutters they are either cheap and nasty or have a beveled cutting edge. I would order some from HLJ but i would rather not have to get them shipped from Japan every time i need a new pair of cutters.

Sorry, this is so long winded 😛

    • I got side cutters from HLF and just throw them in with an order of some kits. They hardly add to the weight so when bought with a kit, the postage increase is negligible. I find these http://www.hlj.com/product/MNED-22 very good and nicely affordable.

      • Looking back I should have done that but unfortunately my last order shipped last Friday and it’s my last until after Christmas.

    • I agree with GN wholeheartedly, and even on a better pair the extra cost is almost negligible. You’ll be hard pushed to get a good pair of side cutters from a high street store in the UK. However you could get an ok pair from your local Games Workshop (this appears to be my answer to everything, arrgh!)
Do some local research and find a good model shop, have a conversation and ask their advice. Failing that try either an Electrical or Jewellery supply store. Be warned though their good side cutters will probably be expensive.. The best pair of side cutters I own are a pair of LINDSTROM
Rx 8152 ultra flush pliers designed for electronics, but they very expensive retail, even on eBay between £30-50. Let me know if you can find them any cheaper please.
I however currently mostly use these http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM74035/Sup , as bought from HLJ. Like GN, I shoved them in as part of a larger order. (nb do this with mags and books too, they aren’t cheap to ship)
I still use the LINDSTROM’s, and have several GW pairs for butchering things.

      • Thanks for the advice. I tried some smaller shops but there isn’t much of a modeler scene in Scotland as far as I’ve seen and the shops are either trying to branch out and sell board games and comics as well or have just closed down, but I’ll keep looking.

        • There any in Edinburgh, maybe worth a shopping trip?

          • Oh and try local wargaming clubs/societies, the people can be handy for tips and tricks for modelling. there may even be some with the same interests. Alot of my friends are wargamers.
It’s the one big problem with internet, killing local stores 🙁
