So for this update on my MG Sandrock, I’ll be covering the parts that I’ll be painting the red clay color.
But first, I needed to handle a little masking on the shield.
When I painted the light sand on the shield, I had covered the central area with a little blutac to keep the primer color preserved.
As you can see in the second picture, the blutac did its job very well!
And as I mentioned previously, blutac is also reusable, so I was able to use it (plus a little extra) to cover about half of the shield. The rest I covered with blue painters tape.
The red clay color was pretty hard to nail down just right, and is is a hodge-podge mix of Testors brand Flat White, Primer, Rust, Schokoladenbraun, ATSF Red, Signalbraun, and Humbrol brand Matt 121.
Got a “File Size Error” when I tried to post my final picture (of all parts painted red) so I’ll have to leave it at a side by side comparison between the primer and the new color.
Next update I’ll cover the parts I’ll be painting in my custom pale gold/bronze color.
    🙂

    • Looking great bro! really dig that color! and very interesting way to mask. hmm…

      • Thanks Justin!
It takes a little playing around to get the edges just right, but when you do, it works just as well as tape, if not better.
And since you can mold it into any shape, you can get it into areas and around corners & edges that you would otherwise have a much harder time doing with tape.
And if you think this looks good now, just wait till you see the next update with the gold, and then the results of the masking…
        ^_^
