I am thinking about having my Channel on Youtube and reviewing Kit’s that i bought ? and my opinion + follow WIP + Finish product ? What you think ^^

    • Great idea I think 🙂 I follow a lot of gunpla/mecha reviewers on youtube and all their different opinions on kits are interesting. And being able to follow the building proces of a kit is always nice. If you’d try it I’d definitely watch ^^

    • I think that the end result of something like this depends entirely on the execution. Like deciding to make video reviews and WIP videos itself isn’t a good or bad idea. It’s more a question of how well you pull it off.
Speaking for myself – I think “reviews” are kind of overdone and mostly pointless. They go into all kinds of inane detailI feel like a lot of people do them just to create a bit more content, like a fluff piece, and don’t really have anything to say about the kit. I hate when I’m following someone’s build through WIP videos, and then at the end they dive into 15 minutes of showing how far the elbow joints bend and things like that. It’s just a lot of mostly-irrelevant data, and it’s such a poor way to follow up a bunch of really thoughtful, well-executed build and paint work.
The way I figure it, to do a review well would mean showing some editorial discretion – working out what information is relevant and what isn’t – and making some kind of clear statement through the review. It’s presumptuous, perhaps, to make judgments about the kit as part of the review rather than letting people draw their own conclusions – but that’s kind of what a review is. People watch movie reviews because they want an informed opinion, something to justify their decision to see (or not see) a movie. Movie reviews aren’t “every piece of data I can provide about this movie” – it’s more like selections, -important- pieces of data, along with critical analysis.
But a lot of people really enjoy reviews, and the large amount of data in a typical review does serve as a way for people to become familiar with a kit they don’t own – so take or leave my opinion for what you think it’s worth. In any case, like I said before, I think it’s all about the execution. Whatever you do, if you find a way to do it well, then it’s not pointless or redundant or anything like that, no matter what I might think, or how many other people are doing roughly the same thing.

    • Go for it.

    • Do it. There are people out there that will find it informative. Just ignore the ones that ramble on about their own opinion of reviews and reviewers. This is a supportive community, we all love to see how others build their kits.

      • It takes a lot of time to make a nice video that no one will watch. It may be a fun thing to do at first but if you continue getting 5-15 viewers it gets pretty pointless. Being a girl will get her more viewers at first but as tetsujin said, too many reviewers out there discusing about the neck articulation or the fact that it can or can not turn 360. I’d love to see more info and more videos on the parts, box, size etc etc. Stuff in between. We can all say “I like this kit because it has legs and weapons and it looks awesome”, doing it the right way will need some finesse, which I’m sure Leena can pull out but it’s not me who’s opinion matters. It’s that John /Jane Doe that came by the channel by a stroke of chance. Whatever you decide, I wish you good luck and may the schwartz be with you! Keep us posted.

        • Thanks Daniel, for your support. I understand what you are saying, because i too have watched those reviews and vids and some people just bore me to death with there rambling or discussing parts that go on for FOREVER! I hope to make it kinda like a blog/review with a hint of personality and fun in it. So that its both informative and entertaining in some sort. I guess in the end if no one watches it i can always look back and enjoy it myself 🙂

          Thanks

    • Support is one thing. Saying “go for it” if you want to kill a puppy is another. Don’t get me wrong, what matters is that it makes you happy and that’s about it. If you’ll use it as a sort of your own log thing, even better. One day you could watch your old videos and have fun about doing so. 🙂
