Dear sir, should we even get excited about this? Like someone said, all Americans do to movies with mecha theme is to add more explosions and half naked chicks as a sell point. “Transformers! Now you can see more explosions than anytime before. And a superhot chick bent, with her ass in the air!” How about the actual Tranformers? Good thing I’m a fan of the franchise because these movies are utter crap for anyone older than 15. Lately the only good sci-fi movie of this kind was District 9, in my opinion anyway. However! I’m curious about this one. To say the least.
Any movie without Shia LaBeouf is better 🙂 Leonardo is a serious actor, and I would like a serious sci-fi movie that is story driven. Sadly, too many anime series have been ruined when made into live action movies, but we’ll see.
I’ll agree to that but Megan Fox didn’t really help the quality either. Her behind is wonderful, don’t get me wrong there and I enjoy watching it oh-so-much, but not in a Transformers movie. It should be about machines fighting eachother not about LaGouf and his blue-eyed hottie. Peter Callen nailed it as Optimus but was overshadowed by the utmost stupidity of the movie itself. In general, it’s hard to translate a Japan made anime to a Hollywood blockbuster. I remember watching Predator with a hungarian dub. The effect is more or less the same. Can’t be done properly and doesn’t look/sound that great either. Anyway Ryan, glad you’re sharing your love for Robotech, and I do honestly hope we’re going to get something out of this actually worth watching. Having Leo as someone in charge and interested in filming this one is promising enough. He grow so much in every way since Titanic.
Pacific Rim was awesome, and proves that not all American action films are Michael Bay-style trash.
But, seriously, why does anyone complain about a super-hot chick with her ass in the air? What’s not to like? 🙂
Don’t get me wrong, I like her ass, there’s nothing not to like about her it’s just that it’s out of place to me. Haven’t seen Pacific Rim yet. Heard good stuff about it. However I have no idea why they need two pilots/drivers of that huge thing working in sync.
They need two pilots because… just because. Pretty much. 🙂 It’s kind of a gimmick, kind of a plot device… But it also contributed to the sense of grand scale and slightly over-the-top theatrics which is part of the fun in super robot anime and the human side of monster movies.

I had no idea, Robotech for sure, Leonardo is usually in excellent movies. Hopefully this does not mean Star Wars will be bad.
Star Wars, not bad?!? It’ll be made by Disney for mass production with a 70 year old Han Solo and quite probably singing. Of course it’ll be bad, the question is how bad?
Not to be pessimistic, but I am surprised that this movie is still in production.
