I have finished the Mk44 Hammerknight!

I didn’t use some of the parts that were supposed go on this version (like the night-vision) and I used few parts from other model (the vent on the back is from 1/35 Panther tank). The original tubing was also replaced with metal coil springs. I didn’t use the bust that comes with as he doesn’t have arms and I wanted to keep the model open.

The surface was covered with Tamiya Putty to create cast texture (I’m not sure how successful that endeavor was, but it certainly breaks the monotony of perfectly smooth surface).

The camo is obviously inspired by WW1 French tank camouflage. Handpainted, then chipped (with brush and sponge).

Other weathering is done with Tamiya Panel Line wash and oils paints (blending and the streaking). It was the first time I used oils this extensively.

And lastly, the mud. I have never use any mud. I was advised against using enamel wash + plaster, but since that was what I had, I used it anyway. I liked the effect overall, even though I felt like I overdid it. Anyway, I was recommended to try pigments. I only had European Earth pigment and on my, did I screw it up. It was way too light (I used Dark mud wash for the initial mud). Next I basically tried scrubbing the mud and the pigment off the model in attempt to salvage it. And it actually turned out really well! I re-applied some of it back and I think it looks fine now. I certainly have room for improvement there though.

Paints used for the camo are (all Tamiya):

    XF-18 Medium Blue
    XF-60 Dark Yellow
    XF-58 Olive Green
XF-9 Hull Red + XF-64 Red Brown for the brown (probably 1:1)
XF-69 NATO Black for the lines
XF-71 Cockpit green for the interior
