When Koto started their AC kit line I was pretty psyched. Armored Core 2 was one of the first games I got for my PS2, and I always saw it as the perfect game for mecha modelers – build and paint a robot, then “pilot” it on a mission. In the several years since the line started, I’ve had lots of big plans for AC builds but so far only completed one, the Crest Close Combat Type. The build itself is mostly out-of-box but with a few changes here and there. I replaced the kit-stock rifle with the GAST rifle from one of the weapon sets, used Kotobukiya aftermarket hands, and I wired the whole thing for lights. In the photos you can see the lit cameras in the head, but I also set up the model with lights in the thrusters – there’s just a bit of wiring I never finished for that.
I ran into a few issues with this build due to the way I incorporated the wiring – it was a pain fixing the parts of the model that broke due to those mishaps but it was a good learning experience, it’s changed my approach for the better.
