Intermediate Modeler – Modeling Competition 2013 9 years, 7 months ago I assembled the frame today, to see how everything fits before I start detailing it. Minor nub marks here and there, but they will be painted over regardless. I think I’ll actually just paint it by hand from now on. Surprisingly, Bandai’s included a lot of more alternate parts than I anticipated. For example, there are optional parts for the waist and skirt armor internal frame.
One thing I was disappointed with was how Bandai sculpted the end of the shot lance. Two pieces…two pieces, Bandai?! Thus, it was a matter of having to glue them, use modelling putty for the gaps, and then progressive sanding from rough to fine sandpaper.
Lastly, ran out of matte black paint for the outer armor. Need to get more tomorrow!

Oh, I forgot to mention: although I do spray on the runners, I remove as many of the gates as I can without the part flopping off the runner. This way, I’ll avoid too many gate marks. 🙂
Is the kit very different to the x1?
Most of it is just a recolored X1. However, there are several parts unique to the kit (to make it look like the actual X2 from the manga + Katoki Hajime’s input). These are the shot lance, the head crest, and skirt armor to name a few.
Also, aside from one runner, it’s almost entirely in polystyrene.
