To me, decaling this baby up took as much time as actually building the kit. If not more. However, the regular non-shiny version does look better all decaled up. A lot of people decide not to do this on a titanium version however as they worry not to take that shine off too much.
I bought the aftermarket Water Decals… They look great, but so does the Titanium Finish. Its a little hard to see in the Picture but I painted all the black and finished it with a Pearl Clear Coat. I am going to put some more decals on, eventually,
I can’t say that I don’t envy you guys for having so much hobby tools, paints and everything else at your disposal, more or less for grabs. I mostly have Revell enamel paints + airbrush combo which doesn’t yield the best results al the time. But it does make it more challenging. I wouldn’t mind a spray can or two from time to time. 😛 Dry transfers that come with the kit are amazing enough but the water slides make this task much easier. 🙂 Can’t wait to see it al done. Gave any thoughts about buying the Sazabi with the same finish?
I order paint Stateside from Tamiya USA Direct as there are really no good model shops close enough, I would realy like to be able to order Mr Color from Japan, but thats a no-go. I have only just started using and Airbrush myself.
I would not buy another ”Titanium” Finished Kit that is not ”under-gated” (Nubs). For the extra money you pay it looks great from a distance, but this model deserves to be looked up close and you can see the nubs!
I have a lot of kits that are waiting to be built:
PG Wing Gundam
MG V Gundam Ver.Ka
MG THE-O (Incrediable kit)
MG Gelgoog
HG’s
Macros…
Ma.K.
Tanks, Tanks and more Tanks!
But to answer your question, Yes I would like to build the Sazabi & RX-78!
Had no idea a kit that size, complexity and price wasn’t undergated. I own an MG Hyaku Shiki, the first one, plated. It was released way back when there were no 1.0/2.0 stuff. It was just an MG and that was it. 3+1 and a thumb thing was an “OMG RX-78-2 3.0” thing back then. And, even for that time it was undergated as hell! I literally had no extra touch up on the nub marks for the plated parts. The only non-undergated spots were the ones that were nicely covered by something else.
So I guess a platinum Sazabi and an RX-78-2 have more or less the same problem… 😐
Anyway, I have The-O waiting for me too. Was very much excited when I got it but it’s a HUUUGE canvas to paint on and I’m thinking on giving it an RG look, with multiple shades of yellow. For a giant that big it deserves the attention., right?
Dave, a pleasure talking to you and I’d love to see more of your stuff!
All the best. 🙂
Undergating is the only way to go on a Plated or Titanium finished Kit.
Good luck with your “O” it is a huge canvas.Lol
Same here brother, its been real good chating with you. I look forward to seeing whats next. Build a Ma.K. and join me over at the Ma.K. Builders Guild.
sweet!!! gotta love the sinanju, its a beast
I still have to put all of the Decals on…
