1/48 New Layzner WIP update #3

Finished the legs, so I put everything I have right now together. And for the sake of showing off I removed the top covers from the left leg. The legs are big chunks of plastic which along with the solid and huge feet mean good things for stability. We’ll see if I can still say that after attaching the arms and backpack.

Going into more detail. The sides of the legs can open up to expose some of the interior as part of the V-MAX system. Don’t ask me what that means cause I haven’t got a clue. The sides don’t open all that far though so I haven’t found an angle to photo the inside without removing the cover entirely first. I painted the pipes on the inside with my chrome silver marker. In hindsight I should have done the black panel-lining of all the grooves beneath the pipes first. But I wasn’t going to risk it now out of fear that I’d ruin the whole thing by smudging the silver all over the place.

Other than the pipes on the inside there is little to paint on the legs. Most of the paintwork ended up being more obscured parts like the aforementioned pipes, the knee-joints, the bits of the feet beneath the shinguard, the ankles and the big canyon running along the back of the leg.

This canyon holds two calf-missiles which can be removed and have little wings that can swivel out. The thruster-part of the missiles wouldn’t stay put so I glued it into place. I also glued the red vent on the inside of the legs. The vent stayed put, but a slightly rough jolt was enough to send it flying.

I love the bell-thrusters on this thing and the bigger of the two can swivel slightly. I’m not a fan of the two poking square thrusters beneath there though. Each is made out of two separate components which were connected to the runner in the worst place. (right next to the peg that lets them slot together. Be a bit careless with your knife and you’re going to have to use the glue) Aside from the construction, I also plain don’t like their look. I would have preferred more bell-trusters.
