A couple of days ago I had a girlfriend of mine working in my airbrushing quarters on one of her F1 kits. One of the questions she had was about spiderwebs. I tried to explain that sometimes airbrushing can and will produce this kind of effect, while working with enamels anyway. My question would be why? Anyone have any clue of why varnish (most usually) sometimes makes this kind of anomaly? I’ve noticed that it’s consistancy is a bit different from the regular paint of the same brand so I’d thin them more. And if someone does know why and how this anomaly occurs, how should I avoid it other than not using varnish in my AB gun at all?

    • from my experience, usually that effect results from your mixture. are you using gravity or syphon feed?

      • Gravity only. This anomaly is so rare on any other paints that I don’t give it much attention. However I am curious abot the origin of this strange effect. I suppose it could be similar to cotton candy effect, made mostly by paint not thin enough or bad temperature whyle painting. Though I’m mot sure.

        • you’ve basically got it.depending on the enamal your using, a combination of fluid thickness and humidity/temps causes a very fine build up on your neddle, just before the tip, causing that effect.

      • Hi well when it has happened to me the first port of call is usually the regulator. That is my default for a lot of problems.

        • Hi guys. Just came back from a nice vacation and wanted to check back on my previously posted stuff. As for my spider web problem I had before, I’m still waiting on an airbrush I’ve ordered from HLJ. The long wait for my order to ship became a regulkar thing during summer vacation time I guess. But it’s on it’s way to me as we speak and I’ll soon try out some more demanding things, like that varnish that went “spiderman” on me the last time I used it. Thanks for the answers guys!
