Wonder Festival 2015 Winter (Part 1: Commercial Booths)

The HLJ crew rushed off to Tokyo bright and early on February 8 for Wonder Festival 2015 winter! The event is held at the gigantic Makuhari Messe convention center and takes up all 8 of the available halls. Our first stop was in the commercial area where we had the opportunity to view upcoming and newly announced figures and other merchandise! Below are many of our favorite selections from the event, and we think you’ll agree that 2015 is turning out to be a great year for collectors!

We hit up Bandai’s booth first, where the S.H.Figuarts line was taking spotlight all around! The “Sailor Moon” section had some particularly excellent reveals, with Super Sailor Moon, Sailor V, Sailor Moon (original anime color ver.) and Fake Sailor Moon stealing the show. Don’t remember fake Sailor Moon? That’s actually Zoisite dressed up as Sailor Moon to trick our heroines. I guess this means the villains made it into the lineup, after all!

The last new addition from the Sailor Moon S.H.Figuarts line was the long-awaited, Sailor Pluto!

Other new additions to Bandai’s Sailor Moon collection included the lovely Figuarts Zero Sailor Scouts based on the “Sailor Moon Crystal” designs (with Sailor Mars’ uncolored prototype front and center), and the full set of five Sailor Moon Tamashii Buddies all lined up and ready for action!

Continuing with Bandai’s S.H.Figuarts line, we got to see the first glimpse of the new Kinomoto Sakura (Tobira wo Akete ver.) figure from “Cardcaptor Sakura”, along with the entire cast of “Love Live”, looking fabulous on their miniature stage! “Pretty Cure” was up next with Cure Echo standing tall and awaiting her color treatment!

For Bandai’s final set of reveals, we saw some lovely new figures from “KanColle”, including new A.G.P. figures of Kongou, Haruna and Naka, as well as a huge Chogokin Rensouhou!

Alter’s booth was our next destination, and they started off strong with their breathtaking figure of Velvet and Cornelius from “Odin Sphere”! This pair marks the third addition to Alter’s “Odin Sphere” line, and they just keep getting better with each new character!

Following up was a prototype of the sadistic and sexy Plamya from “Sekai Seifuku Bouryaku no Zvezda”. And next to her was Yuuna Yuuki from “Yuuki Yuuna ha Yuusha de Aru”, with a figure announcement for her fellow Hero Club member, Mimori Tougou! We hope to see her prototype soon!

To round up the MegaHouse selections, we saw upcoming figures from the Variable Action D-SPEC and Hi-SPEC lines, as well as new figures from “Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199”, “Mobile Suit Gundam” and “Shinrabanshou Chocolate”.

Next up was Kotobukiya! One of their biggest highlights was definitely the Ken Kaneki ARTFX J figure from “Tokyo Ghoul”! The second season of this anime recently started and it was getting some much deserved attention at the event.

Also from Kotobukiya’s ARTFX J line is Grell Sutcliff from “Kuroshitsuji”, looking stylish with his chainsaw in hand.

Kotobukiya is keeping the comic book figures coming strong! From the DC Comics side, we got an announcement for a Raven figure, who’s sure to look stunning next to Starfire. And Deadpool, Lady Deadpool and Wasp were on display (or announced) from Marvel Comics!

Another big announcement came in the form of Tali’Zorah from “Mass Effect 3”, but all we could see was a teaser of her silhouette, so we’re hoping for more information soon.

Kotobukiya didn’t disappoint with their mecha lineup either–we’ve got some amazing kits and figures coming from “Transformers”, “Super Robot Wars”, “Muv-Luv”, and more!

The Aniplex booth was small, but full of surprises, with a lovely figure of Kaori Miyazono from “Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso”, a giant Kuma from “Persona 4”, and a very elegant Saber from “Fate/stay night”!

Next up was the manufacturer with the biggest booth in the whole event–Good Smile Company! Their list of figure reveals was so massive, they arranged the ones that didn’t have prototypes yet on a wall so we could view them all at once. See any Nendoroids, figmas, or scale figures that catch your eye?

Starting with Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid prototypes, we have the adorable Mako Mankanshoku from “Kill la Kill” rocking her Two-Star Goku Uniform! The Stormtrooper Nendoroid from “Star Wars” was equally cool, and we look forward to seeing all of the accessories that will come with these guys!

Good Smile’s scale figure lineup was equally noteworthy, with some new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” figures, an enormous Guts from “Berserk” and more on display!

Also featured at the Good Smile Company booth were new figures from Phat Company, Max Factory and FREEing. Phat Company brought out two prototypes for their Parform line of articulated figures, Labrys from “Persona 4 Arena” and Momohime from “Oboro Muramasa”! And all three companies had an impressive lineup of scale figures, with Link from “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” being one of our personal favorites!
