The Latest Scale Model News from the All Japan Model & Hobby Show 2015

The All Japan Model & Hobby Show just wouldn’t be such a spectacular show without all its fantastic military, aircraft, naval, and auto kits! We’re diving into the latest offerings by famed manufacturers Hasegawa, Tamiya, Fine Molds, Aoshima, and more. This is our first look at several new kits, as well as the debut of painted and prototype versions of many more.

Hasegawa:

On the scale model front, superb new aviation offerings are led by the 1/48 Nakajima E8N1 Type 95 Reconnaissance Seaplane (Dave) Model 1, with pilot figures fore and aft, the 1/72 F-14A Tomcat Ace Combat Wardog Squadron, and the 1/32 Mitsubishi A6M5C Type 0 Model 52 Hei with pilot! Another gotta-get is the 1/48 Nakajima Ki-44 Shoki Army Type 2 Single-Seat Fighter Model 2, featured in manga-master Leiji Matsumoto’s series “The Cockpit.”

An eye-grabbing new offering is the 1/35 Hitachi Construction Machinery Astaco NEO Double Arm Working Machine, with a female operator figure at the controls. It’ll be working its way to you next month!

Another proud all-new kit is the 1/450 IJN Aircraft Carrier Shinano, measuring a mighty 592mm upon completion. She can be yours in December!

Tamiya:

Tamiya introduced a new tank to their 1/35 scale lineup, the U.S. Light Tank M24 Chaffee! The kit will include parts for one figure, and decals for two different WWII markings. Also new to their impressive 1/35 scale tank lineup was the U.S. Medium Tank M4A3E8 Sherman “Easy Eight” European Theater, along with a U.S. Tank Crew Set in the same scale!

Tamiya’s 1/12 scale model of the Tyrrell 003 1971 Monaco GP was gorgeous in person. The kit features tons of photo-etched parts that will allow fans to recreate the Formula One racing car in all of its glory!

And from their 1/24 scale automobile lineup, we saw the Eunos Roadster, as well as the Mazda MX-5, both finished up with a hot red coat of paint!

Fine Molds:

Christmas will come a month early for fans of Fine Molds, with great new releases on the way for November! In 1/72 scale, the IJA 150t Super Heavy Tank O-I will be an exquisitely detailed realization of the colossus of a tank that was proposed, but not completed, during WWII.

The armor excellence continues with 1/35 offerings that conveniently coincide with Japan’s theatrical release of “Girls und Panzer der Film,” including the Type 97 Middle Tank Chi-Ha 57mm Cannon New Chassis Chiha-Tan School Ver., the Type 97 Middle Tank Chi-Ha Turret Chiha-Tan School Ver., and the Type 95 Light Tank Ha-Go Chiha-Tan School Ver.. All new toolings!

In the meantime, the Nano-Dread Series will continue to please scale shipbuilders with tiny, terrific new entries that include 1/700 Bofors 40mm Gun Four Mount with Shield and Type 89 12.7cm AA Gun with Cover. Thanks, Fine Molds!

Aoshima:

Aoshima will offer a parade of all-newly-tooled scale kits, led by the 1/12 Honda CB400 Four! This hot new entry in its Naked Bike series captures every detail of the sporty ’70s machine, down to its 408cc engine reproduced through 3D scanning. Watch for it in October!

Another October-release star is the Water Line Series’ 1/700 US Navy Aircraft Carrier Wasp & Japan Navy Submarine I-19, a two-kit set of these craft that became forever linked in history at Guadalcanal in 1942.

Super-car fans, get ready to grab the 1/24 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento! Only 20 of the revolutionary real car were produced, but you can build your own scale likeness of it this December.

On the sci-fi side, Aoshima also plans to serve up the 1/700 Arpeggio of Blue Steel I-401 Ars Nova Mode as well as a 1/48-scale offering of the ageless Thunderbird 4!

Pit Road:

Continuing their “Girls und Panzer” series of miniature tanks, Pit-Road brought out the Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. D Kai (H Type) Ending version, complete with the entire Ankou team! The model measures about 115mm long and includes figures of Miho, Saori, Hana, Yukari and Mako, each at their respective stations as they roll into action!

A 1/144-scale RAF Victor K.2 Aerial Refuelling Tanker (Desert Storm) was also on display at the show, and included decals for three different pinup girl markings to choose from!

Platz:

Platz wowed fans with their new 1/144 scale kit of the FFR-41MR Yukikaze Mave (Final Attack Form) from “Sentou Yosei Yukikaze!” The aircraft and its armaments are incredibly detailed, and Cartograf silk screen decals are included so you can faithfully recreate this super maneuverable fighter!

Another impressive 1/144 scale aircraft was the JASDF C-46 AACS Flight Inspection Machine, with its distinctive blood orange markings!

New 1/35 scale “Girls und Panzer” kits included the white IS-2 Pravda High School tank! There were also accompanying figures sets in 1/35 scale, including the Ankou Team Figure Set (Cleaning Ver.) and the Pravda Girls High School Figure Set (Battle of Snowfield)!

Level 75 Marketing Mage. Editor, admin, and occasional code monkey. Stand User in her free time. Though she does build kits when time allows, time doesn't allow often. Her favorite lines are Hasegawa's Mechatro WeGo line, Meng's World War Toons Pinky line, and weird miscellany like Platz's bonsai tree kits. In general, if it's a detailed miniature that's too small to be useful for anything other than taking up space, she'll probably love it.
