Shizuoka Hobby Show 2014: Show Report featuring new releases from Tamiya, Fine Molds, and Hasegawa!

On Thursday, May 15, Scott Hards and Brian Keaney of HobbyLink Japan took a tour of the Shizuoka Hobby Show, with a focus on military kits.

Tamiya’s motorized Mark IV tank is filled with detail! Their gorgeous new 1/700 USN CV-3 Saratoga will be available in July and the 1/12-scale Ducati 1199 Panigale is not only incredibly detailed inside and out, but is also the perfect scale for your Figmas and Revoltechs to ride!

Tamiya’s focus on Mini 4WD items was evident throughout the show, too. Check out our extensive selection of high-speed tiny-cars items here!

Fine Molds’ new 1/35 JGSDF FM43 Type 61 tank looks like a must-have for armor fans!

Scott checks out Hasegawa’s exciting new Su-35S Flanker and beautifully detailed waterline kit of the Akagi, based on newly found information about that legendary ship! The A10-C Thunderbolt “Warthog” looks awesome, too.

Scott and Brian also spend some time visiting with Vladimir Schultz, the president of Edouard, maker of exquisite detailing kits and much more, at the booth occupied by Beaver Corporation, an HLJ subsidiary and domestic wholesaler. The Beaver booth showcases new offerings from manufacturers as diverse as Meng, Kitty Hawk, Wingnut Wings, Amusing Hobby, Panda, Freedom Model, HK Models, Grochi, Model Collect, Wolfpack Design and, of course, Eduard.

And Syd Sked shifts his attention from Gundams to some real-world vehicles (although still pretty fantastic ones)–Aoshima’s new 1/24 Aventador kits! The LP700-4 Roadster and the Lamborghini Murcielago R-SV 2010 GT1 Spa #25 are both packed with the amazing attention to detail Aoshima is known for, and are a must-get for any fan of fast cars and excellent model kits!

  2. Although I really only come here for the Gunpla/sci fi stuff, I have to say that the Akagi looks awesome. What really impressed me in this video though was seeing the completed plane from Kitty Hawk’s president, and even more, hearing about the creation process from Mr. Schultz– his modeling enthusiasm is infectious.

  3. Thank you for sharing video. From news I would preferr 1/48 scale Achilles from Tamiya. Is the A-10C from Hasegawa reboxing of old kit 1/72?

  4. When is the date for next year Shizuoka Hobby Show? I would like to visit Japan and attend the show.
