RG RX-78-2 Build Part 6

The decals took a long time. There are so many and they are so small it is a battle of attrition. Some of them need to be modified if you want your RG to look like the Shizuoka Gundam.

As that is what I wanted my RG RX-78-2 to look like I would need to put the Real Grade onto a base.  Luckily for me, I picked up an SD Real Gundam project kit at the Shizuoka Gundam site which meant I already had a base.  Now I just needed to attach it somehow.

The solution was to take the small plastic piece off of the bottom of the RG’s feet and insert a piece of 1.5 mm rod.

I didn’t need to drill into the RG at all. The hole was the perfect size.

I drilled a 1.5 mm hole into the base and set up the first foot to see how it would work.

The placement seems a bit off so I drilled a second hole, and then set up the RG to see if he was in the correct spot before drilling the holes for the other foot.

While this method worked it’s worth noting that because the stand is very short there isn’t a lot of rod sticking out the bottom so it had a tendency to slide out. To solve this problem I cemented the rod into place from below.

Then I set to work on the Beam Saber. The way the RG hands are molded it can’t hold the beam saber at the angle required to work with this stand. What I did was cement the beam saber into the proper place and prayed I had it correct.

While that dried I set about making the beam saber the right color. The beam saber was actually taken not from the RG but from the HG Beginning Gundam. I cut it to what I thought was the right length, sprayed it with some primer and then did several coats of pure white. This gives it a semi transparent look. No, it doesn’t light up, although that thought crossed my mind.

And the result!

Now I can’t wait for the RG 1/44 MS-06S Char’s Zaku II!
