Saw the Character Yellow. I saw on the Dengeki and Hobby Japan 2199 model book that they used a gloss black undercoat before the Silver. Seems to be a common technique for Metallic coats?
Looks great. I manage to get a set of the official paint also so I’m itching to build one of my own. I’ll probably start on the Yamamoto, Not going to light it up like you though so I’m looking forward to your laght effects. BTW. Which yellow did you use?
It probably won’t matter too much if you’re not planning to doing any tape masking but I just had a couple spot where the masking tape manage to peel off some paint on my current build and I did the wash after cut and sand and made sure I washed my hands before putting on the sticks to prime.
Why are you washing it before you cut the parts out? You’ll likely get skin oil back unto the parts when you’re trimming it. Then you would have to wash it again before priming.

You going with internal battery or external? If external. How’re you planning on hiding the wiring on the stand? Yea you can light the exhaust on the falcon but they are buried so deep that the light would only be visible when you view it directly from the back. Might do what you did when I get to the Zero though.
External battery. I actually just about finished doing all the drilling out of the stand to hide the wiring, just need to do tat last joint at the bottom. I’m using plugs so that it connects at the top of the action base and the pins actually hold it a bit more steady. In the base, i drilled out for a push button to go in the back, i’ll be…[Read more]
I found this awesome video on lighting the zero, i’m so mad i didn’t do the engine the same. I tried to change it up but i damaged the detail so i’m sticking with what i original wired, and have to fix the damage.
Wow. and this is suppose to be a quick build? ;-P I thought about lighting the Falcon but you can’t really see into the engine exhaust. I’ll definitely light up the 1/500 Yamato when I get to it though.
Yea i am debating picking up the 1/500. My friend dave is lighting his right now and that thing looks amazing with all the cannons lit. I don’t know if i want to get involved in a project like that now. lol
And yea, this was supposed to be quick, if you see the picture with the kit primed, that was basically ready for painting. But i really want…[Read more]

Damn. Last time I checked. they were out of stock and I did not check last week when I put in an order. Looks like I have to find an excuse to put in another order now ;-P
What color are you going with on the Zero main body. I see a lot of metallic finished ones but the translated color chart from the Yamato kit say 90% white and 10% Neutral Grey.
Well i actually picked up the official color set from Mr. Color, and the main body is a metallic grey. I’m going with that color scheme. I think even if i didn’t get that set, i’d go with an airframe aluminum or something like that. It’s still a ship, so white/grey wouldn’t fit it in my thinking.

You get a much more stable airflow with a tank. It also means the motor does not run all the time which makes for longer life. Even the auto start/stop non tanked compressor runs the motor at full when it’s on.

That’s interesting to say the least, not sure on myself using future… In the future, also I laughed my butt off earlier when I realized my mistake, my phone must have thought I was drunk when I typed out Dlinker lol
That is strange as I did not have that problem with future and water decal. The only kit with water decal I’ve done so far was the Cosmo Zero build with my friend’s son. But there was no base paint as it was just Future over the un-painted surface then water decal and a Mr. Color flat coat. It also held up against the Tamiya enamel panel accent.…[Read more]
Same with me, never had issues with Future on unpainted surfaces. It didn’t dissolve or weaken or nothing. It seems to be only with painted surfaces, and mostly with Vallejo paints. I find it to be tough right away against anything that isn’t water, alcohol, and any mix of the two.

yep. Fairly simple kit. Got it cut and sanded in one evening, Washed it last night. Will be getting home late tonight but may have time to put the pieces on stick and then prime on Thursday.. I hope the translated color guide from the 1/1000 Yamato will give me all the main color for this kit. Still have not compare the 2 yet.
Some WIP pictures of the kit I just started. The 2nd RG GP-01 is still not done although I did get the replacement piece from Gentai. I’m still waiting for a set of water decal that have been backordered from HLJ forever ;-(
Damn picture size too big. I’m going to just post the link for those interested until I get a chance to resize t…[Read more]
