Yeah. All work is ok to be shown here, just not anywhere else until after the judging.

  • I think I’m ready for my final submission. I may work on some more poses before I enter.

Final update: http://imgur.com/a/5eMGs 3/12/17 (first photo is at the end of the photos, based on how the forum organizes things, sorry for the inconvenience – the Imgur link above makes life easier) After a few more rounds of chipping, and adding some enamel steel to bigger chips, and some moderate fluids/pigments, I\'m calling Cherno Alpha done. If my friend for whom it\'s being built wants more, I can always do more later. A final coat of Vallejo satin varnish sealed everything in, just handbrushed on. I realized that thinning this stuff was a bad idea - when I did it on my test spoon, even perpendicular strokes after the first coat dried didn\'t hide the brushstrokes. Going straight on fixed it right on up. She liked the satin finish on some test paints more so than flat or matte. The panel lining was standard Model Masters enamel burnt umber pin washing. - I used some very minimal drybrushed enamel steel on heavily chipped areas. The vents just above the cockpit got some Tamiya Weathering Master soot rubbed in the direction of whatever was being blown out of the vents. The little openings got some Ammo of Mig streaking grime and engine grime. It ended up being really subtle but I\'m thinking this wasn\'t going to sit around dirtied up for too long after a mission. - You can see the edge wear on the upper arm edges, and on the apertures just in front of the wrist. There\'s also some soot to indicate exhaust gases from the three holes in the back of the hand. - You can see the enamel in the chip and some of the streaks under the vents a little better in this shot. - I drybrushed the knuckle circles and edges of the knuckle just behind the fingers with enamel steel. You can also see the chips and soot from the three holes too. - The sponge chipping on the upper legs - indeed, the entirety of the speckled sponge chipping job - was done with a cheapo sponge brush that was at my in-laws when I was doing the chipping. I had bought a coarse artist\'s sponge to supplement the existing chips done with medium density artist sponge before, but forgot it when we went up to hang out there. They had an old sponge brush and I tore it up enough to make do, and it did a pretty good job. - The vents on the hands got some Weathering Master. This was my first time using it - I used to just use ground pastels, but the Weathering Master was light years easier to apply. - More vents getting sooted. These also got a little enamel steel drybrushing. - Showing off the lower legs. - The hatches, mesh grille, and fans were painted in Model Master aluminum enamel paint. After drying, they were given a gloss topcoat, and then a wash with flat black enamel in a pin wash. - Lights on, and striking a Tetsujin 28 pose. My wife says she needs dumbbells to lift. - More lights goodness. I really do like how the orange side lights are very subtle. It indicates something\'s working and venting, not necessarily illuminating. - A close up of the torso and torso lights. - MOTHER RUSSIA STRONK Thanks for checking out my WIPs. This was a fun build and a good learning experience. I feel like I expanded my skills and learned a lot of good things by doing so, and I can\'t wait to apply them to more Gunpla and plamo builds.

Man looking through all these entries I can\'t help but feel unimpressed by my own work. I see people doing insanely nice work here! Almost done with the Kämpfer. I\'m finnishing my last painting batch. Only need to coat it, do some pannel lining, and then top coat it and it\'ll be done. I have to say I\'m really enjoying this competition so far. It\'s pushing me to be more carefull and to try some things I have never done before so atleast I\'m learning from it!

Don’t even worry about tge competition, just have fun and do your best. And if it makes you feel any better, if I was a gambling man I’d say quite a few people here are going to be moved up to advanced. With so much kit bashing, scratch building, and heavy modification, it seem improbable that it wouldn’t happen.

Yeah, these are just quick shots from my phone and it sometimes has problems focusing. I’ve got a high quality photo set up but didn’t really feel like getting the good camera and setting everything up for a WIP shoot.

    • looks great but the photo focus is unclear – I think you are too close to the subject, start way further back – set the camera to closest focus – then move toward object until it is crisp (sorry my work brain is kicking in)

    • Hi I like how you get the chrome red. Is the clear red from an acrylic spray can? Or airbrushed with lacquer clear red. Thanks for sharing.

    • Sorry for the late reply. Its airbrushed clear red acrylic on chrome lacquer.

Posting pics outside of this site is against the rules. I’m not sure but I think its a DQ.

  • WIP #5 Armor. All the armor pieces were painted in black enamel, chromed, and then painted in clear red to give the look of actual metal.
  • WIP #4 painted inner frame in a flat aluminum.
  • WIP #3 on this week’s episode of “This Old Sinanju” we’ll be talking about neo-zeon sleeves detail. I use a special technique rather than masking or hand painting. I start with normal sanding and priming, then I paint the entire part the color I want the detail to be (in this case gold). Next I top coat the part and then coat in black enamel. Once the enamel has started to get tacky, I remove the black from the detail with lighter fluid and a cotton swab. This technique is also very good for painting gundam eyes.

Didn\'t realize that the kits had to have been bought from HLJ in order to qualify for the prize, the kits I got for my Freedom custom all came from a local hobby store...so I\'m going with plan B: a custom Valvrave
    View

They don’t have to purchased from HLJ. You just have to be a customer and use a base kit that is or has been sold in the past on HLJ.

Howdy! I started in the Beginners as I am yet to paint a kit but I keep looking at the photos of the MG GM Sniper ii and know that I have to try and paint it as the stock colours are whack! haha Here goes nothing... I am excited to unveil my plan for the competition… Short Version 1/100 MG GM Sniper II + 1/144 HGBF GM Sniper K9 = Father + Son learning to shoot. Long Version In anticipation of the release of the MG GM Sniper ii I got hold of a HGBF GM Sniper K9 as a warm up build…I have just started snap-building him on the weekend and can see that he actually seems to also have all of the parts of a regular GM Sniper ii in addition to the K9 variant parts (awesome!). Got me to thinking, hmm I could build him to look like the new MG…got me to thinking about the two scales 1:144 & 1:100 stood next to each other and *DING* I could see an image of them stood together, MG with his hand on the lil HGs shoulder reassuring him and saying something like “no son, try holding your rifle with your hand like mine” mwahaha. We shall see. Not sure how far I am going to take it but over the last couple of years I have slowly been building up my tools and some option parts so excited to see how far the kits take me. I have been building gunpla for a while now and built a stack of HGs and 3 MGs but never actually gone “all the way” and modded/painted one yet (1st victim Marasai is on sticks at the mo ready for priming) – with work commitments and a 2.5 year old + an 8 month pregnant missus, finding the time to setup, build/paint fumes…blah – so many excuses, I have spent more time researching models + techniques then actually doing it haha. I would like to use this comp to push me to complete something, and contribute to a community that I have spent so much time reading/watching/droolling on, BRING IT ON!

Lol maybe add fuunsaiki modded to look like a dear.

In reply to: TheShadowGamer posted an update in the group Intermediate Modeler – Modeling Competition 2017 So would spray painting (just literally spraying in the same color to reduce shine) and hand painting details be considered Beginner or Intermediate? View

If you can’t figure out where it belongs, just make your best guess and the judges will move to where it fits best if you’re wrong.

  • WIP #2
Thruster bells coated in gloss black and the chromed to give the appearance of being real metal without the hassle of milling new ones and fitting them to the kit.

As I understand it yes. Everything belongs to this site until the contest is over and then we can post it where ever we like. I believe its to help ensure people aren’t entering previously done kits.
