Yeah, it was all a bit painful. The not-quite-fighter-mode at the start of the video, the not-fully-transformed arms, and the Gerwalk pose without the legs swung far enough forward… And yes, the landing gear! […]
Yeah, the “Y” just means “prototype”. (“X” is “experimental” and Y comes after X, so…) So it’s a prototype of the VF-19. VF-19A looks just like the prototype. The Macross 7 ones are a bit different.
Pretty sure Build Booster is compatible with RG Strike – instead of having just a round peg to plug into the Strike, the connecting piece can flip around to give you either the tab-style connector of the RG or the […]
It’s called “Nobel Gundam”, named after Alfred Nobel, the Swedish scientist who invented dynamite.
Of course, Bandai went and butchered the name as they so often do, so now it’s called “Noble Gundam”.
It’s a new tooling. Well, more or less.
Yamato did the 1:60 YF-19 back in 2006, I think… And they followed it up with the Macross 7 VF-19’s more recently – a few years ago I think. Apart from the stylistic […]
Bah, I say! Build Fighters was awesome. Though given that Syd says he doesn’t like Gundam anime so much, I can see why it wouldn’t appeal to him. One of the things I really enjoyed about the show was its abundant […]
Mask and spray. I printed the logo on the printer (split across 4 sheets due to the size) then used that as a guide to cut the pattern out of frisket film. It was a fun little project but the cans of spray paint didn’t last long, so it turned out to be kind of a time-consuming process just due to the need to keep buying more paint
There’s a bit of a story behind my most recent HLJ purchase…
I’m a member of a local modeling club. If you’re seriously interested in model-building I highly recommend finding your local IPMS club and joining up. But anyway…
It should be noted that when sci-fi or mecha modelers start interacting with historical scale modelers, there’s varying…[Read more]
Them kits are nice but lots of finky bits and crap loads of decals.they are very geekish and I think its one thing modellers have a little bit off running in their blood.they been off and in offer here for s while, I snapped up a lot of the virtual on kits from here the first time I saw them on offer.i am sure someone will take a fancey to it, who…[Read more]
Well I’m not out to convert anybody (I’d be pretty pissed if somebody in the club tried to get me to start building WWII tanks) – it’s more like, if the present I bring is gonna be kind of undesirable, then it’s more fun to go over-the-top ridiculous. If people though it was crazy that Hasegawa made cartoon robot-jets, what will they think when…[Read more]
A great choice for those who may not be keen on Sci-fi modeling. Honestly if I was given a model kit as a gift I would prefer something wild. Curious to see what reactions the kit would generate. Still the kit may be nice for someone wanting a change of pace, or you could also say variety is the spice of life :P.
I know exactly what you mean. I’m in a local modeling club and there is only 1 other person that does sci fi kits. And those are well known series like Star Wars. I actually don’t like going to meetings very much any more. All the elderly members comment how they don’t get Gundam continually, even though they’ve had it explained to them at least…[Read more]
Well I wouldn’t say I get that kind of reaction so much. I used to be part of the Granite State Modelers Club in New Hampshire and a friend of mine (also a Gundam and sci-fi modeler) used to be president of that club, I think that probably had a positive influence on them. My current club is the Patriots club in Massachusetts, and the experience…[Read more]
Eh, people build what they wanna build, you know? But I’m really hoping for a good laugh out of this one. I do think somebody’s gonna be interested in it, just like the Valkyrie I brought last year.
Spent the weekend on the other side of the country to attend Souther California Gundam Model Competition. Heading home now. It was a lot of fun, I highly recommend going to next year’s competition if you have the means.
I might have to bow out of this thing. My current plans (already delayed for months for various reasons) just aren’t really compatible with the rules of this contest.
I dunno, I may still give it a shot.
My plans have been delayed as well, and i didnt consider the contest until three days ago.. So you’re not the only one who is falling behind.. Also, how is it that your plans arentcompatible with the guidelines?
I want to make a video build series. If I build something for the contest, I wouldn’t be able to publish videos of it until February. (I even asked if I could work it out by posting the WIP videos only on Hobbylink.tv during the contest period, and then publish them more openly after the contest period was over. That was a no-go.)
Previously I…[Read more]
Ah, I’m sorry that it didn’t work out. But considering the alternatives, you could change to a contest that demands less time and work on advanced modeling as a sideline project instead. Or I guess you could look for a new contest instead. But those are just the alternatives I could think of at the moment. By the way, I’d like to check out your…[Read more]
Well I don’t want to switch down to intermediate category, if that’s what you mean. If you really did mean a different contest… I already do that, going to California for SCGMC next weekend(!), should have a newly-completed Rick Dias in tow. If I can somehow manage to fix those blasted stubborn seam lines on the legs, that is…
I appreciate…[Read more]
You should still give it a shot! 🙂 we’ll still be learning from you whether you pursue the contest, or make a separate build video series or better (if possible) both. 😀 and good luck in your California contest. 😉
Thanks, I appreciate it. I kind of doubt I’ll be able to do much of anything for the HLJ contest at this point, ’cause if I start a build for the video series… Just building a MG for my build video could easily take up the entire two months remaining in the contest. Adding in the work required to shoot and edit a video (which I really haven’t…[Read more]
I’ve been in the hobby for a while now and in that time there have been some projects that just never got done ’cause of one delay or another. I love participating in contests but chasing those deadlines can be very disruptive toward my long-term goals. I’ve already put this project off longer than I wanted to.
And for that matter, the kit that I…[Read more]
allllllllllright. i’ve been working on so much lately, i forgot i was doing this. BUT i sat down for a bit and snapped the rest of the nobell, and started doing my mockup so i can find out what needs to be modded, and where to get the mods. as well as more cleanup. in this i took my two backpack halves, and sanded them down, then glued them…[Read more]
