I hope Bandai continues to use this style of shoulder joint. It looks like it would have much better articulation in comparison to the typical polycap that can swing outwards. Its always great to see Bandai improve kits.
Forgot to mention two things. I washed the pieces in the picture and all gold pieces still on runners, I’m using the gold marker to color the rest of the gold to keep the color scheme consistent
Used metallic markers (the ones in the picture) to cover the ugly molding lines and flashes. Also used the silver marker for the missile pods on the shields and in place of the black sticker for the mono eye. Gonna use the purple marker in place of the sticker for the mono eye itself.
I had the same issue with this kit. I painted over it, but cheap and effective way is to use a touch up marker and top coat it. You should get a good result.
Unfortunately, that is a result of the injection molding process, where the injected plastic meets in the mold, those ripples will be right the way through the plastic, so sanding wont help.
The only real way to fix it is to paint the whole piece.
I had the same issue with those ripples with kits that are gold/silver injected. Nearly every kit with gold/silver injected color I built has this issue in some of their parts.
Actually you can find this problem on any kits if you look hard enough, but it’s more common with large solid pieces with little surface sculpting, huge rounded pieces or older kits. This is due to injection technology, placement of the part on the runners, and/or the size of the gates.
I actually have this kit and ran into the same problem as Tatsuo.
Thanks for clearing up the rules for the competition. one more question though. we can post progress of multiple kits, but only submit one as a final submission, correct?
Finally get to build my r-gyagya. I plan on doing simple weathering and panel lining, maybe paint the visible frame pieces. I’m not sure if that still counts as beginner, though.
I remember that “weather” is under advance class. But it doesn’t hurt to put it in beginner and see if you get bumped up.I actually have no experience doing weather so it will be interesting to see what you can do!
i wonder if syd and ryan have heard that episode 8 already has a release date. its set for 2017, so be ready for rushed, quick cash in stuff from disney.
on a gundam note, i would love to see a hyaku shiki revive (better yet, rg) because it seems that bandai is going back to its older kits and is redoing them, and i feel that the hyaku shiki…[Read more]
