Hello, after over 15 years, I have decided to try my hand at gunpla again. As a kid growing up I had built a few SD and 1/100 HG kits poorly. Extra parts, broken pieces and awful paint jobs. Lacked the resources, patience, and knowledge to do a good job. Now that I am all grown up, I was hoping to pick up the hobby again, but this time do…[Read more]

    • …well im a noob at painting BUT the easiest, safest way for painting is to take the parts of the sprues/runners/trees/sheets or whatever you like to call them BEFORE painting, unless you got matching paint and a brush you’ll have mis-matching nub marks, and…as I learnt the hard way gundam markers of near color are not wise…

      I use tamiya…[Read more]

      • Thanks for sharing, I appreciate the pointers. What is your opinion on pre-building before painting and peg cutting. I don’t know much about either, but I been reading around that some people do it because it helps you know where you have to build first to eliminate seam lines.

        • No idea about peg cutting, if you pre build just have the parts sit there and not be too secure, or work out how to separate said parts while in construction that won’t rip the parts…apart.

I’m not an expert in this field though, but for piece trouble shooting during a build I don’t snap pieces fully in until I’m sure it’ll work, may work for…[Read more]

          • Some people would straight build the entire kit then disassemble it and glue/putty the parts that are needed. Others will carefully study the manual and see what pieces need to be glued. I’m more of the second category. But even if I didn’t build the 3.0 I think that they won’t be any visible seamlines except maybe for the beam rifle or the…[Read more]

            • thanks for the input, it seems there are not many seam lines to worry about after the armor is put on to the frame. I plan to do priming before painting and I am worried that my panel lines and some details will disappear. I have been reading about “scribing,” or carving details out lightly. What is you guys’s opinion on this?

I ordered a bunch of stuff for christmas from HLJ but had to wait for MG Sazabi to come in!

BUT the story does not stop there! I put in a shipment request as soon as I paid for Sazabi and it went into my Private Warehouse since most of these are Christmas presents, especially the Sazabi. I did not receive a payment request just a Shipping…[Read more]

    • Never happened to me before, I spend HOURS entering my address details thanks to issues I had with ebay in the past (who’d get confused over a 0 in front of a single digit…they thought I wrote 70 backwards, what in the heck :S) and never gone wrong since…

But I also don’t use fed ex and often send angry emails to my local postal service,…[Read more]

      • Yeah, the thing is I love the tracking updates via FedEx and I have been using HLJ for years with FedEx. Even before the addition of the private Warehouse. This is the one time that it had to happen and during christmas -.- FedEx will not leave the package if there is no one to sign for it unless you sign for it before hand on there website.…[Read more]

    • I got my stuff on christmas eve! everyone loved their presents. HLJ also refunded me my shipment cost 🙂

    • Nice foot…whats the problem?

      • As you can see the left panel is stiking out and i have tryed everything but it wont stay flush agenst the A part

        • I just saw a few reviews from japanese reviewers, some of them have similar issues…

I can’t think of a solution, for me I’d take the whole thing apart and study it and look for any nubs, if that fails I’d give it applied force until it fits…

Or you could glue it down maybe, I haven’t any real answers sorry :c

    • Are those nubs on the inside of the left side armour piece (the 2 things around the middle and then lower part of the long gap going down before it turns inwards)? If so they could be stopping the piece from going into place.

      • I can post a picture of what parts I mean if I failed at explaining…

        • no thats actually part of the silver under armor frame but the feet piss me off soo much they should have gone the way of inanju and used the round joints cus the policaps get just a bit of forve and they split like hell and the transformations is a pain in the ass

          • I was thinking that polycaps might have not ended well with the sheer size of the kit.
You can always go through the long process of disassembling and reassembling that part of that leg until you have it all working as it should.

Seeing as I haven’t bought this kit yet (my wallet doesn’t allow me to around Christmas) I can’t really add any help…[Read more]

            • Well sa far as the gap turns out that thier were some nubs that i missed that were undergated but i tryed to do the transformation yesterday it took me like an hour to transform and even the the legs kept spliting apart and the sheild was a bit too much and the hands have a had time staying in their polycap is way to short

  • hey I just saw some scans form gundam ace and they showed some zudah f type desing , and I am looking for more that show the rest I have the color pick I need to see the rest. also this will be my first step into the zudah line XD

I ran into an issue with my hgac wing gundam kit. The face part broke from off the runner in two parts. I am not sure how to mend it. It still fit on the face but it is in two pieces where it is currently at. I have a photo of it.

Hi all, just a quick question. Can anyone give me pros and cons of pre shading and post shading please.

    • I’m like you I will soon try myself on pre shading. I’ve already trained myself on spoons for now.
From all the videos I saw on this I can say that there is two main techniques on pre shading:
      – Draw black lines where your shade is then paint over it.
      – Paint a darker base color on all the part then highlight it with your normal lighter color…[Read more]

Started to work with Milliput putty for the first time on some Gundam pieces. Finding out that after letting it sit for several hours since earlier it doesn’t seem to be adhering to the plastic. Could almost pop it out like a mold. I did try roughing up the surface pretty good before adding the putty with the idea of providing some gripping area,…[Read more]

    • did u clean the surface?

      • The parts got a good wash to remove any of the mold release residue that may have been on them. I popped the milliput out this morning since it wasn’t holding. Should I have used something on the surface before hand, plastic cement or something?

        • I quite often get a knife and cross hatch score Marks into the surface of pieces I putty onto. This gives something extra for it to bind onto, and less chance of shearing from the surface.
As mpb457 says the piece needs to be clean, even greasy fingerprints will Will create a binding barrier, so maybe was the parts again just before using the…[Read more]

          • I’ll give it another bash to see lads. Looking at the Milliput pieces I can see the rough surface that I scored into it so maybe will rough it up a bit more and clean it again. I have a feeling this one may pop out of place on me too: http://goo.gl/tUFx7z If I can’t get it to work maybe I’ll start reinforcing with pla plate instead. Cheers lads.

  • hi guys I need help I got a gundam x moah and I don’t now what the color is for the lines on the moah that glow for satlalight cannon it looks eather a weird blue ,purple ,or gray

Hi guys, so I’m looking to start with gunpla

I’ve seen the models I like however I’m needing some help with shipping, I’m in the UK and I’ll have to pay handling fee, if I go EMS it’ll be £13.50 but I can’t find the price for FedEX, so I was hoping somebody could help

Also a question about line markers, if the part is white is grey better then…[Read more]

    • The marker is just personal preference

    • As said, comes down to a matter of preference. A gray line on the white part gives less of a contrast from the white than the black line. Nice subtle effect in my opinion.

FedEx seems to only appear for the pricier shipping options for me to the UK/Ireland… maybe it’s just me?

  • I have asked this in a few other places. I also posted it on one of a video I watched on youtube. Forgive me if it is repetative to others:

So for someone who wants to get started in the gunpla hobby, I am a bit overwhelemed as to where to start. I have built and painted models of various sizes, lines and qualities for over 22 years. Most of my…[Read more]

    • Many factors apply here, some mobile suits only come in HG, and with your paint skills they could potentially rival mg straight builds in details, hg’s are cheaper while rg’s just have that extra bit of detail that rival mg’s depending on the age.

If you plan on diorama builds hg’s/rg’s are the way to go considering so many variations of the same…[Read more]

    • Since you are an experience modeler, there shouldn’t be any problem for you moving to another model field. The only different is Game workshop figures are mainly hand painting, blending with minimum airbrush job. But still do ‘battle damage’ like a military, if I not wrong.

Here’s the different. Usually beginner in building Gunpla model either…[Read more]

    • Thanks for the advice thus far. my fav. gundam is the Deathscythe hell Custom. I am going to try and pick up a version or two of that and give it a whirl. I will try a few different kits and see what I like building. I had my mind set on the 1/100 scale, but after seeing the RG 1/144 and just the sheer variety in that scale, I will probably mostly…[Read more]

      • On second thought, after seeing the size comparison first-hand now, the MG kits really seem like a better investment overall. Hopefully some of the 1/144 kits I like will eventually hit the MG size. I will still probably get a few 1/144 here and there, but I think I may focus my attentions on the MGs
