• Very nearly done, I think. A little more panel work/gap filling and adding detail and then it’s paint time

In reply to: Anna posted an update in the group Intermediate Modeler – Modeling Competition 2017 The Playing With Plamo competition ends on April 30th! You\'ll need your HLJ customer ID to enter -- if you don\'t have it handy, we recommend writing to customer support at support@hlj.com now instead of later, so you can get it in time to enter! Good luck -- we\'ll look forward to the entries to come! http://hlj.com/plamo-2017 View

I assume that’s april 30th JST? and is there a specific time that entries close on that day?

    • Anna replied 4 months ago

11:59pm on April 30th is the deadline! And that’s right — we’re going on JST.

In reply to: Enrico Asa no Hoshi posted an update in the group Advanced Modeler - Modeling Competition 2017 Hey guys! I\'ve been very busy working on my entry, and I think I will finish it in time. I\'ve been documenting my progress, then I will upload some more photos son. Also, seeing all these builds getting closer to being finished is really exciting, then I wanted to suggest HLJ make a video (or a blog post) showing all the submitted entries. That\'d be very interesting. Good luck, everyone! View

same, I’m feeling the crush of slacking off earlier on. I’d also love like a huge gallery of all the entrants somewhere on site after this is over, cos there are so many builds we just won’t see

In reply to: jonjonk posted an update in the group Beginner Modeler - Modeling Competition 2017 What do people use on their computer to resize photos to the competition specifics? View

ms paint does work, resize should be directly under crop, and then you can click the option that says pixels and type in the competition specifics

    • Just tried it. MS Paint work surprisingly well! Thanks!

      • Tony replied 4 months ago

I could not get ms paint to work to change the DPI to 72… if you did good, i downloaded a different photo program.

  • note to self- don’t accidentally drop your shoulder assembly into a bottle of plastic weld

Finally finished! Made a make shift photo studio using 2 iPads from my kids. HDR is kinda tricky with its color correction. Are we allowed to tweak the color using iOS apps? These shots are not sent to syd yet.

‘The only restriction on modification is that no photos can be touched up in order to alter the appearance of any enhancements, or imperfections of the kit.’ from that I’d assume no, personally

quick update of general proportions/look of Gundam Nebula (may change name, dunno yet). Cut and extended the yellow section of torso, modded the stomach for movement and added height though I still need to fill that in and shape it. Rough plan for the arms so I can do them up quick and p much finished the leg just need to mirror it for the other. I also modded the head by removing the old Mohawk-thing, angling the ear flap sections backwards and merging the portent\'s v fin in

oh and a question- do you think I should jump up to advanced category? I chose intermediate not realising the kit would need some of the advanced stuff I’ve had to do mods wise and can’t help but feel it doesn’t fit into intermediate anymore

    • I wouldn’t worry about it the judge’s will determine weater or not you belong in intermediate or advanced just keep on keeping on

help me please! Did somebody knows, where you have to apply that stickers?
    View

from what I can see online they’re ‘put these wherever if you want to use them’ optional stickers

  • Finished up the putty work on merging the star winning’s SD for shin to its real mode shin. I wouldn’t call it good sculpting that got the result, more me just slapping it on and sanding it to shape. And since the ankle armour is immobile I really needed to go out of my way for movement, and am using a quadruple joint for forwards and backwards, and the polycap twisting for foot rotation and ankle tilt.

In reply to: Kiroya91S posted an update in the group Intermediate Modeler – Modeling Competition 2017 Arent projects with mods besides new color schemes and slight part swapping supposed to be in the advanced category?? I\'m just asking :P not trying to cause any trouble... {hope no one tries to kill me for asking this :P} View

The category guidelines are a little vague but the rules say that the judges can move an entry into a different category if they feel it was in the wrong one, so it doesn’t matter that much in the end if some people are posting in the wrong group.

  • The benefits of an SD grade kit is it’s really quick to snap together and see what needs changing, the drawback is that it’s a lot to change. Messed around with the shoulder armour and changed the position from the original, and decided to cut off the fins shortly after taking the picture.
Also scrapped the old pelvis and redressed one from an old hguc RX-78-2 junker I had with the star winning’s skirts. Didn’t like the sides though so I’m using the boosters from the EZ arms set on a sliding post so they can extend and swivel for directional thrusters. Obviously this pelvis doesn’t connect to SD type joints, so I put a length of sprue through it as a bar for some hguc ZZ shoulders (thank you tryon 3 spares), much easier than sitting and sanding the ball joints of this new pelvis…

  • My Star Winning arrived today for the competition, planning on scrapping the SD mode, replacing the elbows, pelvis/hips and knees (with some kotobukiya joint parts and leftover scraps from other kits), and merging the two legs so I can have the SD ankle armour on the real mode’s legs. Then the whole thing is going to be painted, with the white as a galaxy. With almost two months and 3 weeks left, I’m confident I have the time
